Analysis of Student Creativity in Developing Science Learning Media during the COVID-19 Pandemic

This study aims to ascertain (1) the inventiveness of university students in developing digital media for science education. (2) provides an overview of elementary science media applications that students can develop, and (3) discusses the obstacles students encountered while developing digital media for elementary science learning during COVID-19. This study took place at Yogyakarta State University and Makassar State University. The sample size for this study is 142 students, including 71 UNM students and 71 UNY students. The approach is descriptive with a quantitative component. Thus, the results demonstrated students' creativity in developing science media during the COVID-19 pandemic, as measured by five characteristics: fluency, flexibility, originality, elaboration, and sensitivity. Students can create media by using applications such as PowerPoint, Articulate Storyline, Flipbook Maker, Wondershare Filmora, and a variety of other supporting platforms (websites). However, students face obstacles in four areas when developing media, including fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration, namely (1) students continue to struggle with integrating science learning media into elementary school through the use of appropriate approaches/models/learning methods, (2) determining the variety of problem-solving strategies available to users of science learning media in elementary school, and (3) determining the variety of problem-solving strategies available to users of science learning media in elementary school. (3) difficulty identifying science learning media for elementary schools located in areas without internet access due to the COVID-19 pandemic and others.

PENGARUH MEDIA PUZZLE TERHADAP HASIL BELAJAR SISWA PADA KARAKTERISTIK HIDUP HEWAN DI KELAS IV SDN 106814 TEMBUNG KECAMATAN PERCUT SEI TUAN KABUPATEN DELI SERDANG

This study aims to determine student learning outcomes using puzzle media in Class IV 106814 Tembung students. In this study, the researchers found a problem where there were some students who did not get a score below the KKM, problems were found when conducting initial observations at SDN 106814 Tembung, especially in science subjects. The research was conducted with 4th grade elementary school students on science subjects at SDN 106814 Tembung with the aim of fixing the problems that researchers found and it is hoped that students will be able to develop abilities using puzzle media during the teaching and learning process. Application of Science Media for Science Communication in Postgraduate Course to Elicit Emancipation

This study reports on redesigning learning outcomes in terms of postgraduates’ communication skills through science media communication with the aim for interactive teaching and learning. Communication in science education entails the image of science known as scientific epistemology. Therefore, the inclusion for learning about the philosophy of science among postgraduate students must not be limited to understanding the descriptive tenet of the philosophy. The initial work for this study attempts to assess whether learning about the philosophy of science dictates reflexivity and emancipation. Previous studies have not reached a consensus on how the impact of transformation can be created and recreated for others. Therefore, this study focuses on leveraging science media communication to foster conformity between oneself and others. Analysis was performed on ten postgraduate students’ reports, writings, and portfolios obtained throughout the semesters. The analysis aims to critically discuss the proposed solution for the paradigm shift in teaching practice, with a specific focus on the course design outcomes. Using critical discourse analysis (CDA), the analysis identified liminal phases due to bearer as a professional among the respondents that habitually liberated through the five stages of transformation designed for this course. The following four liminal phases were interpreted from the students’ reflexivity: identify negotiation, setup condition, a masking mechanism, and formation of oneself and others. Such points to the conclusion that placing students as the protagonist during the transformation process when learning the philosophy of science would expand their self-realization on the role of scientific epistemology in science education.

AI4R2R (AI for Rock to Revenue): A Review of the Applications of AI in Mineral Processing

In the last few years, jargon, such as machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI), have been ubiquitous in both popular science media as well as the academic literature. Many industries have tried the current suite of ML and AI algorithms with various degrees of success. Mineral processing, as an industry, is looking at AI for two reasons. First of all, as with other industries, it is pertinent to know if AI algorithms can be used to enhance productivity. The second reason is specific to the mining industry. Of late, the grade of ores is reducing, and the demand for ethical mining (with as little effect on ecology as possible) is increasing. Thus, mineral processing industries also want to explore the possible use of AI in solving these challenges. In this review paper, first, the challenges in mineral processing that can potentially be solved by AI are presented. Then, some of the most pertinent developments in the domain of ML and AI (applied in the domain of mineral processing) are discussed. Lastly, a top-level modus operandi is presented for a mineral processing industry that might want to explore the possibilities of using AI in its processes. Following are some of the new paradigms added by this review. This review presents a holistic view of the domain of mineral processing with an AI lens. It is also one of the first reviews in this domain to thoroughly discuss the use of AI in ethical, green, and sustainable mineral processing. The AI process proposed in this paper is a comprehensive one. To ensure the relevance to industry, the flow was made agile with the spiral system engineering flow. This is expected to drive rapid and agile investigation of the potential of applying ML and AI in different mineral processing industries.

Von Braun, Tikhonravov, and Space Flight in American and Soviet Post-War Popular Media

Wernher von Braun and Mikhail Tikhonravov had the nature of their scientific roles shown through their connections to popular science media in the countries where they worked during the 1950s. Von Braun’s background was reflected through the edutainment of three Disneyland episodes, and Tikhonravov was unique in his association with Soviet popular science magazines. Their personal interests in relation to their work could also be shown through their interactions with the public sphere.

MEDIA IPA INTERAKTIF BERBASIS LECTORA INSPIRE UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN ANALISIS

Natural science material is abstract such as the solar system causing students to have difficulty understanding the material so visualization is needed to study it. Interactive learning media is needed so that abstract material becomes simpler and easier to understand, learning is interesting, and meaningful. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Lectora Inspire-based interactive science media on students' analytical skills. The type of research used is a quasi-experimental with pretest posttest nonequivalent control group design. The population used consisted of 6 classes with cluster random sampling sampling technique taken 2 classes, namely VII B as the experimental class and class VII E as the control class, each of which amounted to 30 students. The results of the analysis using the Independent Sample T-Test show that there is an influence of interactive science media based on Lectora inspire to improve students' analytical skills. Therefore, the use of interactive science media based on Lectora inspire can be used in learning to improve students' analytical skills.

Parse Publicity’s Pros and Cons

Efforts to publicize research can have both pros and cons for researchers. Working with the media presents both important benefits and pitfalls. Understanding them will help you accentuate the positives and minimize the negatives of media coverage. Media coverage offers research credibility, helps discover collaborators, sparks new ideas, provides communication training, helps a researcher’s field, protects from inaccuracies, educates the public, and sparks public participation in science. However, publicity can also distract or detract from a career, promulgate errors committed by the media, and reveal painful truths. For many scientists the popular media are not their most important audience, but techniques learned from working with them will help you work with journalists from important science media.

Efektivitas Penggunaan Media Sains Flipbook Berbasis Kontekstual untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Berfikir Kritis Siswa

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keefektifan media sains flipbook berbasis kontekstual dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas V Sekolah Dasar. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode eksperimen. Desain eksperimen yang digunakan yaitu desain true-experimental berupa post-test only control group design. Sampel penelitian ini terdiri dari kelas V-1 SDN Mangkubumen Lor sebanyak 26 siswa sebagai kelas eksperimen, sedangkan kelas kontrolnya yaitu kelas VA SDN Cemara Dua sebanyak 26 siswa. Pemilihan sampel sekolah dasar tersebut dilakukan secara purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa butir soal tes untuk mengetahui kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang disusun berdasarkan integrasi antara indikator kemampuan berpikir kritis dengan domain kemampuan kognitif dalam taksonomi Bloom yang telah diuji validitas dan reliabilitas butir soal. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata hasil belajar siswa yang menggunakan media sains flipbook berbasis kontekstual (88,12) lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan nilai rata-rata hasil belajar siswa yang menggunakan buku paket IPA pada umumnya (75,31). Hasil uji independen sample t-test diperoleh signifikansi 0,000 < 0,05 artinya H0 ditolak menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan nilai kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada kelas eksperimen yang menggunakan media sains flipbook berbasis kontekstual dengan kelas kontrol yang menggunakan media buku cetak atau paket IPA. Skor nilai kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang menggunakan media sains flipbook berbasis kontekstual lebih tinggi daripada skor nilai kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang hanya menggunakan media buku paket IPA. Namun dalam penggunaan media sains flipbook berbasis kontekstual ini sangat membutuhkan sarana prasarana atau fasilitas sekolah yang memadai. The Effectiveness of the Use of Flipbook Science Media Based on Contextual to Improve Critical Thinking Ability of StudentsThis study aims at determining the effect of flipbook science media base on contextual to enhance critical thinking skills for students of class V in elementary schools. This research is quantitative research by using the experimental method. The experiment design used is a true-experiment design in the form of a post-test-only control group design. The sample of this study is a V-1 class of Mangkubumen Lor state elementary school with as many as 26 students as the experiment class, while the control class was VA class of the Cemara Dua state elementary school as many as 26 students. The selection of the three elementary school samples was done by purposive sampling. The instrument used is a form of test items at determining students' critical thinking skills compiled based on the integration between indicators of critical thinking skills with the domain of cognitive abilities in Bloom's taxonomy that had been tested for validity and reliability of the items. The results of this study indicate that the average value of students learning outcome using flipbook science media base on contextual (88.12) is higher than the average value of students learning outcome using natural science textbooks (75.31). The results of the independent sample t-test obtained a significance of 0.000 <0.05, meaning that H0 is rejected, indicating that there is a value of students' critical thinking skills in the experimental class using flipbook science media base on contextual with the control class using science textbooks media or science packages. Scores the value of the critical thinking ability of students using flipbook science media base on contextual is higher than the value of the critical thinking ability of students only using the science textbooks media. However, the use of flipbook science media base on contextual really requires adequate school infrastructure or facilities.
