Polydimethylsiloxane modified SiO2/organic silicon sol (PDMS-SiO2/SS) hybrid coating was synthesized via a simple two-step modification route. The nanoparticles (NPs) of PDMS-SiO2 were synthesized through a high temperature dehydration reaction by using silica and excessive PDMS. The NPs lapped with each other and formed a branch and tendril structure. Organic silicon sol (SS) added as basement introduced a hydrophobic group and protected the structure of the NPs. The PDMS-SiO2/SS hybrid coating exhibits a superhydrophobic performance with a maximum water contact angle of 152.82°. The frost test was carried out on a refrigerator evaporator, and the results showed that the coating did not merely delay the frost crystal time about 113 min but also increased the frost layer process time. Meanwhile, the defrosted water droplets rolled off from the coated surface easily which is a benefit for frost suppression performance of the next refrigeration cycle.

In casting temperature Laquan silica sol crust process suitable for the production of surface roughness is small, precision high accuracy in size, and has become the mainstream technology has been widely used. Silicon sol casting with high dimensional accuracy, good surface quality and other advantages, is a widely used less advanced technology without cutting, using silica sol casting method can save a lot of machine equipment and processing time, but also greatly saves metal materials. Hard fiber sisal has high tensile strength, resistance to seawater immersion, friction resistance, flexibility and other characteristics, can be used for fishing, sailing, mining, transportation rope, canvas, waterproof cloth and other raw materials. The most commonly used binder in investment casting is silica gel solution (abbreviated as silica sol), such as ethyl silicate hydrolysate, water glass and silica sol.

In this study, boron/silicon sol compounds were applied to wood for construction and durable materials, and fire risks were investigated in terms of smoke performance index (SPI), smoke growth index (SGI), and smoke intensity (SI). The compound was synthesized by reacting tetraethoxyorthosilicate with boric acid and boronic acid derivatives. Smoke characteristics were investigated using a cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-1) equipment for cypress wood. The fire intensity fixed the external heat flux at 50 kW/m2. The smoke performance index measured after the combustion reaction increased between 13.4% and 126.7% compared with cypress wood. The fire risk due to the smoke performance index decreased in the order of cypress, phenylboronic acid/silicon sol (PBA/Si), (2-methylpropyl) boronic acid/silicon sol (IBBA/Si), boric acid/silicon sol (BA/Si). The smoke growth index decreased between 12.0% and 57.5% compared to the base specimen. The risk of fire caused by the smoke growth index decreased in the order of cypress, PBA/Si, IBBA/Si, BA/Si. The fire risk due to smoke intensity decreased between 3.2% and 57.8%, and in the order of cypress, PBA/Si, IBBA/Si, BA/Si. COpeak concentrations ranged between 85 and 93 ppm, and decreased between 37% and 43% compared to the base specimen. A comprehensive assessment of the fire risk on smoke hazards decreased in the order of cypress, PBA/Si, IBBA/Si, BA/Si.

A unique organosiloxane-polyether amine (OPA) was produced and used as mesoporogen to efficiently synthesize hierarchical ZSM-5 zeolites with great mesoporosity. We have employed silica sol and tetraethylorthosilicate, respectively, to investigate the influence of different silicon sources on hierarchical zeolites in the presence of OPA. The mesopores of synthesized samples focused on 6–15 nm, and the external surface area varied from 185 to 463 m 2 g −1 where the micropore surface area was maintained at 245–334 m 2 g −1 . Benefiting from the superior structure properties, these samples were used as catalysts in the reaction of methanol to propylene, and the optimal one catalysed for 180 h with methanol conversion above 95%. The as-produced OPA could connect steadily with zeolite frameworks through covalent bonds (–Si–O–Si–) during the hydrothermal crystallization process. This type of connection mode could effectively avoid the formation of amorphous phase and the special molecular structure of OPA could efficiently introduce abundant mesopores with few micropores being consumed. The samples synthesized with silicon sol were made up of quasi-circular particles of about 800 nm in size and further consisted of nanocrystals of 40 nm, and the samples produced with TEOS have a particle size of about 1–2 µm aggregated with nanocrystals of 300 nm.
