A novel coagulation combined with UV/O3 process was employed to remove the effluent organic matter (EfOM) from a biotreated pharmaceutical wastewater for harmlessness. The removal behavior of EfOM by UV/O3 process was characterized by synchronous fluorescence spectroscopy (SFS) integrating two-dimensional correlation (2D-COS) and principal component analysis (PCA) technology. The highest dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and ratio of UV254 and DOC (SUVA) removal efficiency reached 55.8% and 68.7% by coagulation-UV/O3 process after 60 min oxidation, respectively. Five main components of pharmaceutical tail wastewater (PTW) were identified by SFS. Spectral analysis revealed that UV/O3 was selective for the removal of different fluorescent components, especially fulvic acid-like fluorescent (FLF) component and humus-like fluorescent (HLF) component. Synchronous fluorescence/UV-visible two-dimensional correlation spectra analysis showed that the degradation of organic matter occurred sequentially in the order of HLF, FLF, microbial humus-like fluorescence component (MHLF), tryptophan-like fluorescent component (TRLF), tyrosine-like fluorescent component (TYLF). The UV/O3 process removed 95.6% of HLF, 80.0% of FLF, 56.0% of TRLF, 50.8% of MHLF and 44.4% of TYLF. Therefore, the coagulation-UV/O3 process was proven to be an attractive way to reduce the environmental risks of PTW.

Diagnosis of periodontal conditions is diverse and includes an index assessment of inflammation, microcirculation analysis, determination of microflora of periodontal pockets, radiography. A new method for assessing inflammation is proposed - laser conversion diagnostics using the InSpektr M instrument. In 30 patients, indicators of LCD with intact periodontium and indicators in patients with chronic generalized periodontitis of moderate severity were revealed. Measurements are differentiated by localization: keratinized, non-keratized gums, marginal margin. It was shown that laser conversion diagnostics (fluorescent component) of the state of the gum tissue using the InSpektr M device can serve as an objective method for detecting inflammatory changes in periodontal disease; obtained indicators of conversion diagnostics of intact periodontium.

Conducted experimental and clinical studies on the implementation of the rapid diagnosis of endometrial morphofunctional state in perimenopausal women. The age-related features of the structural and functional state of the endometrium in women in this age period and in women with a reduced follicular reserve after ovarian surgery have been revealed. The developed medical diagnostic technology has confirmed its clinical efficacy in rapid diagnosis in the conditions of follow-up observation of perimenopausal women.

Smart packaging functions can be provided by printing functional labels onto packaging materials using inkjet printing and inks with changeable photoluminescence properties. Carbon nanoparticles are considered a perspective fluorescent component of such inks. Ink compositions based on carbon nanoparticles are developed and adapted for inkjet printing on paper packaging materials for producing smart packaging labels. The influence of technological factors of the printing process on the photoluminescence characteristics of the printed images is investigated. The main investigated factors are the concentration of carbon nanoparticles, the relative area of raster elements of a raster field of a tone image, the absorbance and surface smoothness of paper. The resulting parameters are photoluminescence intensity and color. It is found that in case of changes in surface smoothness and absorbance of paper and concentrations of carbon nanoparticles in the ink compositions, the photoluminescence intensity of a printed image changes while its photoluminescence color remains the same. To obtain the highest contrast of tone inkjet-printed images with carbon nanoparticles on papers with any absorbance, the highest concentration of carbon nanoparticles in the ink composition should be used. However, the highest contrast and the highest own photoluminescence intensity of a tone inkjet-printed image with inks with carbon nanoparticles can be achieved only on papers with the lowest absorbance. The most noticeable difference between photoluminescence intensity of printed images on papers with any absorbance can be obtained with the lower concentration of carbon nanoparticles in the ink composition (10 mg/mL). The optimum concentrations of carbon nanoparticles in the composition are determined: for papers with low absorbance—10 mg/mL, and for papers with medium and high absorbance—25 mg/mL. Analytical dependency is created for photoluminescence intensity of images printed with inkjet printing inks with carbon nanoparticles as a function of the studied technological factors. Some design solutions for photoluminescent labels are suggested.

The free radical copolymerisation of five fluorescent 4-allylamino-N-phenyl-substituted 1,8-naphthalimide dyes (MDs) with methylmethacrylate (MMA) has been investigated. The utility of the copolymers prepared as fluorescent component in polymer/liquid crystal systems has been investigated. The basic photophysical properties of monomeric dyes, poly(MMA-co-MD) and poly(MMAco- MD)/liquid crystal mixtures are discussed. The influence of poly(MMA-co-MD) on the phase transition temperature from the nematic to the isotropic state of poly(MMA-co-MD)/liquid crystal mixtures have also been investigated.

Abstract We isolated a substance from an organic extract of meconium (in neutral pH) that exhibited a porphyrin-like fluorescence peak at 580 nm on excitation at 405 nm and deduced its structure. Spectrometric data suggest that the substance is not free coproporphyrin I or free coproporphyrin III, but is a chelate of coproporphyrin I with Zn2+. We also detected a chelate of coproporphyrin III with Zn2+ by HPLC. These substances may be useful as new indicators of the presence of meconium.
