Quantum Spacetime, Noncommutative Geometry and Observers

I discuss some issues related to the noncommutative spaces κ and its angular variant ρ-Minkowski with particular emphasis on the role of observers.

Spectral triples on irreversible C∗-dynamical systems

Given a spectral triple on a [Formula: see text]-algebra [Formula: see text] together with a unital injective endomorphism [Formula: see text], the problem of defining a suitable crossed product [Formula: see text]-algebra endowed with a spectral triple is addressed. The proposed construction is mainly based on the works of Cuntz and [A. Hawkins, A. Skalski, S. White and J. Zacharias, On spectral triples on crossed products arising from equicontinuous actions, Math. Scand. 113(2) (2013) 262–291], and on our previous papers [V. Aiello, D. Guido and T. Isola, Spectral triples for noncommutative solenoidal spaces from self-coverings, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 448(2) (2017) 1378–1412; V. Aiello, D. Guido and T. Isola, A spectral triple for a solenoid based on the Sierpinski gasket, SIGMA Symmetry Integrability Geom. Methods Appl. 17(20) (2021) 21]. The embedding of [Formula: see text] in [Formula: see text] can be considered as the dual form of a covering projection between noncommutative spaces. A main assumption is the expansiveness of the endomorphism, which takes the form of the local isometricity of the covering projection, and is expressed via the compatibility of the Lip-norms on [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text].

Exponential Formulas, Normal Ordering and the Weyl-Heisenberg Algebra

We consider a class of exponentials in the Weyl-Heisenberg algebra with exponents of type at most linear in coordinates and arbitrary functions of momenta. They are expressed in terms of normal ordering where coordinates stand to the left from momenta. Exponents appearing in normal ordered form satisfy differential equations with boundary conditions that could be solved perturbatively order by order. Two propositions are presented for the Weyl-Heisenberg algebra in 2 dimensions and their generalizations in higher dimensions. These results can be applied to arbitrary noncommutative spaces for construction of star products, coproducts of momenta and twist operators. They can also be related to the BCH formula.

EXTREME POINT METHODS IN THE STUDY OF ISOMETRIES ON CERTAIN NONCOMMUTATIVE SPACES

In this paper, we characterize surjective isometries on certain classes of noncommutative spaces associated with semi-finite von Neumann algebras: the Lorentz spaces $L^{w,1}$ , as well as the spaces $L^1+L^\infty$ and $L^1\cap L^\infty$ . The technique used in all three cases relies on characterizations of the extreme points of the unit balls of these spaces. Of particular interest is that the representations of isometries obtained in this paper are global representations.

Cayley–Klein Lie Bialgebras: Noncommutative Spaces, Drinfel’d Doubles and Kinematical Applications

The Cayley–Klein (CK) formalism is applied to the real algebra so(5) by making use of four graded contraction parameters describing, in a unified setting, 81 Lie algebras, which cover the (anti-)de Sitter, Poincaré, Newtonian and Carrollian algebras. Starting with the Drinfel’d–Jimbo real Lie bialgebra for so(5) together with its Drinfel’d double structure, we obtain the corresponding CK bialgebra and the CK r-matrix coming from a Drinfel’d double. As a novelty, we construct the (first-order) noncommutative CK spaces of points, lines, 2-planes and 3-hyperplanes, studying their structural properties. By requiring dealing with real structures, we found that there exist 63 specific real Lie bialgebras together with their sets of four noncommutative spaces. Furthermore, we found 14 classical r-matrices coming from Drinfel’d doubles, obtaining new results for the de Sitter so(4,1) and anti-de Sitter so(3,2) as well as for some of their contractions. These geometric results were exhaustively applied onto the (3 + 1)D kinematical algebras, considering not only the usual (3 + 1)D spacetime but also the 6D space of lines. We established different assignations between the geometrical CK generators and the kinematical ones, which convey physical identifications for the CK contraction parameters in terms of the cosmological constant/curvature Λ and the speed of light c. We, finally, obtained four classes of kinematical r-matrices together with their noncommutative spacetimes and spaces of lines, comprising all κ-deformations as particular cases.

Noncommutative coverings of quantum tori

We investigate a framework for coverings of noncommutative spaces. Furthermore, we study noncommutative coverings of irrational quantum tori and characterize all such coverings that are connected in a reasonable sense.

Revisiting Connes’ finite spectral distance on noncommutative spaces: Moyal plane and fuzzy sphere

Beginning with a review of the existing literature on the computation of spectral distances on noncommutative spaces like Moyal plane and fuzzy sphere, adaptable to Hilbert–Schmidt operatorial formulation, we carry out a correction, revision and extension of the algorithm provided in [1] i.e. [F. G. Scholtz and B. Chakraborty, J. Phys. A, Math. Theor. 46 (2013) 085204] to compute the finite Connes’ distance between normal states. The revised expression, which we provide here, involves the computation of the infimum of an expression which involves the “transverse” [Formula: see text] component of the algebra element in addition to the “longitudinal” component [Formula: see text] of [1], identified with the difference of density matrices representing the states, whereas the expression given in [1] involves only [Formula: see text] and corresponds to the lower bound of the distance. This renders the revised formula less user-friendly, as the determination of the exact transverse component for which the infimum is reached remains a nontrivial task, but under rather generic conditions it turns out that the Connes’ distance is proportional to the Hilbert-Schmidt norm of [Formula: see text], leading to considerable simplification. In addition, we can determine an upper bound of the distance by emulating and adapting the approach of [P. Martinetti and L. Tomassini, Commun. Math. Phys. 323 (2013) 107–141]. We then look for an optimal element for which the upper bound is reached. We are able to find one for the Moyal plane through the limit of a sequence obtained by finite-dimensional projections of the representative of an element belonging to a multiplier algebra, onto the subspaces of the total Hilbert space, occurring in the spectral triple and spanned by the eigen-spinors of the respective Dirac operator. This is in contrast with the fuzzy sphere, where the upper bound, which is given by the geodesic of a commutative sphere, is never reached for any finite [Formula: see text]-representation of [Formula: see text]. Indeed, for the case of maximal noncommutativity ([Formula: see text]), the finite distance is shown to coincide exactly with the above-mentioned lower bound, with the transverse component playing no role. This, however, starts changing from [Formula: see text] onwards and we try to improve the estimate of the finite distance and provide an almost exact result, using our revised algorithm. The contrasting features of these types of noncommutative spaces becomes quite transparent through the analysis, carried out in the eigen-spinor bases of the respective Dirac operators.
