Preparation of M2SiO4:Tb3+, Mn2+, Nd3+ White-Emitting Phosphors (M = Mg2+, Ca2+, Sr2+, and Ba2+) and the Influence of M2+ Cations on their Luminescent Performance

M2SiO4: Tb3+, Mn2+, Nd3+ (M = Mg2+, Ca2+, Sr2+, and Ba2+) phosphors suitable for near-ultraviolet-violet radiation excitation were successfully prepared at 1400 °C in N2 atmosphere by a high-temperature solid-state reaction, and their phase compositions and luminescent performance were also studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), photoluminescence spectra. Results show that their emission intensity increases in the order of Ca2SiO4 > Mg2SiO4 > Sr2SiO4 > Ba2SiO4 matrix phosphor. Ca1.94SiO4: 0.02Tb3 +, 0.02Mn2+, 0.02Nd2+ phosphor exhibits the best luminescence performance.

Tunable luminescence and cytotoxicity of Samarium-doped calcium–strontium–hydroxyapatite for cell imaging

Samarium (Sm)-doped calcium–strontium–hydroxyapatite (Ca–Sr–HA:Sm) materials were designed and prepared, and the influence of Sr-introduction on the structure, photoluminescence (PL) and cytotoxicity of samples was revealed. The Sr-doping deduces the shift of some diffraction peaks to smaller angles and enlarges the particle size of samples. The typical red– orange emissions and corresponding luminescence quenching of Sm[Formula: see text] were observed, and the optimal luminescence performance appeared when [Formula: see text](Sr) = 7(Sr/Ca = 7/3) and quenching concentration closes to [Formula: see text](Sm) = 0.8 mol.%. The non-radiative transitions and energy transfers due to the dipole–dipole interactions between ions with different symmetry are essential to the luminescence and quenching of Sm[Formula: see text]. Furthermore, the viability values of human HepG2 cells are calculated larger than 90%, and the red–orange color emission was observed when the particles are incubated with cells.

Luminescence performance of laser synthesized Al2O3:Eu3+ nanophosphors depending on synthesis conditions

Al2O3:Eu3+ nanophosphors were prepared by laser vaporization method in a flowing mixture of Ar/He and O2. Luminescence properties of Al2O3:Eu3+ nanophosphors are predominantly determined by Eu3+ ions red emission with inhomogeneously broadened bands in the region of 550-750 nm corresponding to 5D0 →7FJ transitions of Eu3+ (J = 0 - 4). Hypersensitive electric dipole transition 5D0 →7F2 dominates in the spectrum and is responsible for the red emission. The effect of crystallite size on luminescence properties of Al2O3:Eu3+ nanocrystals was observed. It was shown that the introduction of oxygen during the synthesis improves the luminescence performance. The obtained chromaticity coordinates and high absolute QY (~ 14%) indicate the possibility of using red nanophosphors based on Al2O3:Eu3+.
