Developing a listening English learning model using text2speech application

The research on the development of "Listening" practice using Text2Speech Applications aims to develop teaching of English, ‘Listening’ for teachers and students who are not experts in the field of information technology. This study tries to discuss how to adopt and adapt Text-to-Speech software / applications in teaching and learning of English. Text2Speech is a computer application (software) that makes it possible to convert written text into spoken text so that it can be heard. By using the Text2Speech application, written text in MS Word format can be converted into spoken text. Text2Speech allows any text to be read in a computer-synthesized voice. By utilizing Text2Speech, written text can be read and sounded so that it can be heard by the user. Text2Speech allows users to determine how to pronounce a word, phrase, sentence, and even text or parts of text. By utilizing the Text2Speech application, teachers and students get "listening" learning materials in native speakers' voices, so that students get used to hearing "listening" teaching materials from native speakers.

Investigating the Effects of E-Learning as a Method of Curriculum Dissemination for Rural TVET College Students

The study investigates the effects of e-learning as an alternative form of curriculum dissemination for rural Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college students. This study adopted connectivism theory, which enabled lecturers to reflect and adapt to how learning has changed and the accompanying implications of designing the spaces and structures to the current mode of learning. The researcher made use of two research methods to gather data; phone interviews and questionnaires. The data was analyzed using thematic analysis and the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 20.0, Office Word format. The results indicated that the unavailability of technological resources, lack of financial support from single parents’ side due to socio-economic factors, and child-headed families hinder the correct implementation of e-learning and make it difficult to reach its objectives.

Impact of exercise format and repetition on learning verb–noun collocations

A growing number of studies have probed the effectiveness of certain exercise formats in the learning of multi-word expressions (MWEs) in classroom settings. However, a number of important variables, such as MWE retention over an extended period of time and the role of repetition, have so far not been considered. Furthermore, studies have focused primarily on university level learners, with young L2 learners being almost entirely disregarded. The present study sought to address these gaps with 148 high school students who were randomly assigned one of three fill-in-the-gap exercises: (1) word-format, where participants selected the appropriate verb from a list provided; (2) letter-format, where the first-letter of the missing verb was provided as a clue; and (3) phrase-format, where participants chose an appropriate intact phrase from a list. Participants did the exercise once, twice or three times. The study investigated the effects of exercise format and repetition on the learning of 20 verb–noun collocations, one and eight weeks following the treatment. Results from generalized linear mixed-effects modeling showed that both exercise and repetition had significant impact on the learnability of the target MWEs, but the format had a smaller effect size than repetition. Rasch analysis was also used to examine the potential difference in the difficulty of MWEs, and how this difficulty may interact with the exercise format. The findings largely support previous research, but also underline the importance of repetition and suggest that exercise format does not uniformly interact with the learnability of MWEs.

IntelliPatent: a web-based intelligent system for fast chemical patent claim drafting

The first step of automating composition patent drafting is to draft the claims around a Markush structure with substituents. Currently, this process depends heavily on experienced attorneys or patent agents, and few tools are available. IntelliPatent was created to accelerate this process. Users can simply upload a series of analogs of interest, and IntelliPatent will automatically extract the general structural scaffold and generate the patent claim text. The program can also extend the patent claim by adding commonly seen R groups from historical lists of the top 30 selling drugs in the US for all R substituents. The program takes MDL SD file formats as inputs, and the invariable core structure and variable substructures will be identified as the initial scaffold and R groups in the output Markush structure. The results can be downloaded in MS Word format (.docx). The suggested claims can be quickly generated with IntelliPatent. This web-based tool is freely accessible at https://intellipatent.cmdm.tw/.

Several steganographic methods using for embedding of hidden data in electronic text documents

The description of the method and algorithm for embedding a hidden message or a digital watermark into files of Microsoft Word electronic documents in .DOCX format based on two steganographic methods is given. A Microsoft Word electronic document in .DOCX format is used as a steganographic container. One of the methods uses the features of displaying a document by a word processor and the word processor allows the displacement of hidden characters, such as spaces, tabs and paragraphs, in the text relatively to the line of text. The second method uses the feature of the .DOCX format electronic text document that a document is an archive containing Open XML format files and media files, so specialized steganographic methods for XML files can be used for embedding a hidden message. In this case the quotes replacement method is used. The embedding of a hidden message by one of the methods is used for checking the integrity of the other message through the second method. Depending on the capacity of the steganographic container a method can be chosen to embed the message anda method to control the integrity of the message. The algorithm of the inverse steganographic transformation for extracting a message and confirming the integrity of an electronic document is considered. The application is developed to perform the embedding of a hidden message in an electronic text document depending on the capacity of the container. The possibility of using of some steganographic methods is analyzed with the aim of forming a multi-key steganographic system intended for a digital watermarking of an electronic document Microsoft Word format .DOCX.

The Framework for Web-Based Automated Online Question Paper Generator through JEE

Examinations are an indispensable part of a student’s life. In the conventional mechanism, the question paper generation is time-consuming work for the faculty members of the educational institution. Every educational institute mandatorily expects exam setters to follow its own typesetting format. We have designed the automated question paper setting software to be user-friendly so that, paper setters can overcome from the typographic problem. Presently in most of the educational institutions question papers are set manually. It is time-consuming work and there may be chances of repetition of the same questions. So, in order to make the question paper generation more convenient to use, the web application is developed using Java Enterprise Edition (JEE) that can be accessed from LAN/Intranet.The application comes with the Admin Module and Teachers Module. The Admin grants access to the users by registering them. The faculty can access the system once they are registered. The faculty can enter questions in the database daily as per their free time. In this way, the question pool can be generated. The questions are approved by the chairperson and substandard questions are discarded. The question paper is then generated by selected course experts. The Fisher-Yates Shuffling algorithm used to choose questions randomly from the pool of questions from the database. Text Mining Algorithm aids in duplicity removal from the paper. The generated question paper will be in Word Format. In our application, we assure better security, removal of duplicity, cost-effectiveness, and human intervention avoidance. It can be used by small-scale and large-scale institutions.
