An arbitrarily dense discretization of the Bloch sphere of complex Hilbert states is constructed, where points correspond to bit strings of fixed finite length. Number-theoretic properties of trigonometric functions (not part of the quantum-theoretic canon) are used to show that this constructive discretized representation incorporates many of the defining characteristics of quantum systems: completementarity, uncertainty relationships and (with a simple Cartesian product of discretized spheres) entanglement. Unlike Meyer’s earlier discretization of the Bloch Sphere, there are no orthonormal triples, hence the Kocken–Specker theorem is not nullified. A physical interpretation of points on the discretized Bloch sphere is given in terms of ensembles of trajectories on a dynamically invariant fractal set in state space, where states of physical reality correspond to points on the invariant set. This deterministic construction provides a new way to understand the violation of the Bell inequality without violating statistical independence or factorization, where these conditions are defined solely from states on the invariant set. In this finite representation, there is an upper limit to the number of qubits that can be entangled, a property with potential experimental consequences.

Compressed sensing theory provides a new approach to acquire data as a sampling technique and makes sure that an original sparse signal can be reconstructed from few measurements. The construction of compressed sensing matrices is a central problem in compressed sensing theory. In this paper, the deterministic compressed sensing matrices with characters of finite fields are constructed and the coherence of the matrices are computed. Furthermore, the maximum sparsity of recovering the original sparse signals by using our compressed sensing matrices is obtained. Meanwhile, a comparison is made with the compressed sensing matrices constructed by DeVore based on polynomials over finite fields. In the numerical simulations, our compressed sensing matrix outperforms DeVore’s matrix in the process of recovering original sparse signals.

Scale-free networks have several favorable properties as the topology of interconnection networks such as the short diameter and the quick message propagation. In this paper, we propose a method to construct scale-free networks in a semi-deterministic manner. The proposed algorithm extends the Bulut's algorithm for constructing scale-free networks with designated minimum degree k and maximum degree m, in such a way that: (1) it determines the ideal number of edges derived from the ideal degree distribution; and (2) after connecting each new node to k existing nodes as in the Bulut’s algorithm, it adjusts the number of edges to the ideal value by conducting add/removal of edges. We prove that such an adjustment is always possible if the number of nodes in the network exceeds [Formula: see text]. The performance of the algorithm is experimentally evaluated.
