This paper presents the HORUS mission, aimed at multispectral and multiangle (nadir and off-nadir) planetary optical observation, using Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) instruments on-board a 6-Unit CubeSat. The collected data are characterized by a sub-kilometer resolution, useful for different applications for environmental monitoring, atmospheric characterization, and ocean studies. Latest advancements in electro-optical instrumentation permit to consider an optimized instrument able to fit in a small volume, in principle without significant reduction in the achievable performances with respect to typical large-spacecraft implementations. CubeSat-based platforms ensure high flexibility, with fast and simple components’ integration, and may be used as stand-alone system or in synergy with larger missions, for example to improve revisit time. The mission rationale, its main objectives and scientific background, including the combination of off-nadir potential continuous multiangle coverage in a full perspective and related observation bands are provided. The observation system conceptual design and its installation on-board a 6U CubeSat bus, together with the spacecraft subsystems are discussed, assessing the feasibility of the mission and its suitability as a building block for a multiplatform distributed system.

<p>The Cosmic Dust Analyzer (CDA) onboard Cassini characterized successfully the dust environment at Saturn from 2004 to 2017. The study of Saturn’s E ring and its interaction with the embedded moons was a major scientific goal of Cassini. After the end of the mission, the entire CDA data can be analyzed to derive the global parameters of Saturn’s E ring.</p> <p>The CDA instrument measured the primary charge, speed, mass and composition of individual submicron and micron sized dust grains. The instrument was continuously collecting data of dust fluxes and apparent dust densities. Therefore the data cover radial distances between 3 and 20 Saturn radii and equatorial as well as high latitudes. However, the relative impact velocities varied with the dynamical properties of the Cassini spacecraft and with the dust particles. Small relative impact speeds lead to higher mass thresholds for impact detection such that this effect has to be considered in calculating apparent dust densities. Furthermore, the pointing profile of the instrument and the related observation geometry was highly variable. This paper describes an approach to define a dust environment model at Saturn based on the entire CDA dataset.</p>

The authors seek to highlight the modernity of studying various issues in criminology and their inter-relatedness to the fields of social sciences and humanities in general, such as sociology, criminology, security, and all deal-related, often opportunistic, "Interlaced" phenomena. Related issues have been studying the relevant safety facts and science that are incorporated in them, not mutually exclusive items related observation, rather than grouping them in one goal - preventing social negative social phenomena. The authors give special attention to the determining of the concept of a political crime, and terrorism. Crime, delinquency - occurs whenever a gain of three quintessential elements of their existence: the victim, the offender and the place of execution. Accordingly, the basis for the philosophy of prevention consists in disrupting or disabling synergies of these three elements. While the idea of crime prevention may be an unattainable ideal, a lot can still be done in an efficient process minimizing the occurrence of crime.

Measuring large batches of solution concentrations is a cumbersome task that is time consuming and involves many reagents. Determining how to improve the measurement efficiency of batch concentrations is an urgent problem to be solved. This paper introduces an efficient method for the measurement of batch solution concentrations based on normalized compressed sensing. The method is based on the sparsity of natural signals and can reconstruct the original batch concentration signals with a high level of accuracy while taking fewer measurements. The proposed method extracts subsamples from the original samples according to a sampling matrix; the number of subsamples can be much smaller than the original number of samples. Then the solution concentration of the original samples can be reconstructed by measuring the subsamples. The specific process includes sparse signal representation, non-related observation, and nonlinear optimization reconstruction. Compared with the traditional measurement method, the proposed method is demonstrably superior for the measurement of batch solution concentrations; satisfactory batch solution concentration distribution results can be obtained with a number of measurements that is much smaller than the number of samples. The proposed method will greatly reduce the time and cost of measurement.

This chapter considers some arithmetic aspects of period maps with a geometric origin. It focuses on the situation Φ‎ : S(ℂ) → Γ‎\D, where S parametrizes a family X → S of smooth, projective varieties defined over a number field k. The chapter recalls the notion of absolute Hodge classes (AH) and strongly absolute Hodge classes (SAH). The particular case when the Noether-Lefschetz locus consists of isolated points is alluded to in the discussion of complex multiplication Hodge structures (CM Hodge structures). A related observation is that one may formulate a variant of the “Grothendieck conjecture” in the setting of period maps and period domains. The chapter also describes a behavior of fields of definition under the period map, along with the existence and density of CM points in a motivic variation of Hodge structure.

Online and off-line retailers fulfill a wide range of functions that are beneficial to manufacturers as well as to individual consumers. In doing so, they apply a mix of marketing instruments for their store-based and Internet-based distribution channels. As the Internet offers many different innovative alternatives of marketing instruments, the question arises as to what extent online retailers apply Internet-based marketing strategies in order to attract online customers. The empirical study presented in this chapter aims at finding out to what extent powerful multichannel retailers utilize these different Internet-based marketing instruments. The study is conducted by Web site observation in order to represent the customer’s point of view. A total of 60 online shops in the United States and in the United Kingdom are analyzed using 17 marketing-related observation criteria. The study reveals that the observed multichannel retailers still prefer “traditional” retail marketing instruments on their online shops and often do without innovative Internet-based marketing instruments such as personalization or content and information offering. Additionally, we identified fewer differences between the observed U.S. and UK retailers than expected. These findings should spur further research on the use of e-marketing by online retailers especially in an explanative manner.

This paper is concerned with the constitutive behavior of a particular orthogonal fiber network under biaxial dead loading. We also describe a new kind of biaxial, dead-loading machine which is applicable to anisotropic materials. The machine does not require that the loads are exerted along symmetry axes of the material. A specimen of the cloth was loaded by different loading paths to the same equibiaxial dead-load, and two different final deformations were observed. A related observation was reported by Treloar for rubber in 1948. In order to understand this instability, we experimentally determined the energy function for the cloth. The energy function is then used in a variational calculation to explain this instability.
