A cyclophosphazene derivative containing multiple cyano groups, denoted as hexa(4-cyanophenoxy)cyclotriphosphazene (CN-CP), was synthesized by a one-step nucleophilic substitution reaction for a phosphorus–nitrogen flame retardant. To meet the strict requirement of safe and environment-protective insulation materials, a series of composites based on low-density polyethylene-poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) containing CN-CP/Mg(OH)2/Al(OH)3 organic-inorganic synergistic flame retardants was fabricated. High-energy electron beam irradiation was subsequently applied to obtain a halogen-free flame-retardant crosslinked system. The relationship between crosslinking degree and irradiation dose was studied, and crosslinking degrees ranging within 63–85% were obtained under 100–190 kGy. Furthermore, the effects of CN-CP filler and irradiation dose on the properties of the composites were carefully investigated. The maximum tensile stress and limiting oxygen index values of most composites irradiated by EB were more than 15 MPa and 28%. Results revealed that the obtained materials had excellent thermal and mechanical, flame-retardant, and insulation properties, thereby suggesting their promising prospects for wire and cable applications.

The development of n-type semiconductors lags far behind that of their p-type counterparts, demonstrating the exploration of exclusive n-type π-conjugated polymers is significant. The double B←N bridged bipyridine (BNBP)-based polymers P-BNBP-TVT containing (E)-1,2-di(thiophen-2-yl)ethene (TVT) previously reported exhibits ambipolar character because of the electron-rich nature. Herein, we incorporated strong electron-withdrawing cyano groups into the 3,3’-positions of TVT moiety to a copolymer P-BNBP-2CNTVT to develop n-type π-conjugated polymers. The LUMO/HOMO energy levels of P-BNBP-2CNTVT are –3.80/–5.95 eV, respectively, which are ~0.4 eV lower than that of P-BNBP-TVT without cynao groups. Unsurprisingly, compared with ambipolar P-BNBP-TVT, the organic field‐effect transistors (OFETs) based on P-BNBP-2CNTVT showed unipolar n-type characteristics with an electron mobility of 0.026 cm2 V–1 s–1 and lower threshold voltage of ~25 V as well as high Ion/Ioff of ~105. This study demonstrates organoboron π-conjugated polymers could be regarded as a tool for constructing exclusive n-type semiconducting polymers used in OFETs.

In this study, asymmetric zinc phthalocyanine compounds with Donor-π-Anchor (D-π-A) property that enable the movement of electrons in molecular structure in one direction were synthesized. Phthalocyanines were designed to ensure electron mobility within the molecule and to facilitate the transfer of electrons to the TiO2 layer. The synthesized asymmetric zinc phthalocyanines (ZnPc-1 and ZnPc-2) are molecules with three donor biphenyls and one anchor aldehyde group and three acceptor/anchor cyano and one anchor aldehyde group, respectively. The effect of biphenyl and cyano groups on cell efficiency with aldehyde anchor group was investigated. The structure of the synthesized phthalocyanines was characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry (FTIR), Mass Spectrometry (MS), UV-vis, Fluorescence spectroscopy. The experimentally calculated optical band gap values were supported by the values found by Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations. dye sensitive solar cells were measured and the efficiencies were evaluated with reference to the N719 standard dye. In the solar cell measurements of the designed phthalocyanines, the structure containing the cyano group has been given a higher photovoltaic cell thanks to the higher short circuit photo-current (Jsc). In this way, the highest power conversion efficiency value was achieved among the cyano group molecules.

In this work, we have developed a chemical procedure enabling the preparation of highly ordered and vertically aligned mesoporous silica films containing selected contents of silver ions bonded inside the mesopore channels via anchoring propyl-carboxyl units. The procedure involves the electrochemically assisted self-assembly co-condensation of tetraethoxysilane and (3-cyanopropyl)triethoxysilane in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide as a surfactant, the subsequent hydrolysis of cyano groups into carboxylate ones, followed by their complexation with silver ions. The output materials have been electrochemically characterized with regard to the synthesis effectiveness in order to confirm and quantify the presence of the silver ions in the material. The mesostructure has been observed by transmission electron microscopy. We have pointed out that it is possible to finely tune the functionalization level by controlling the co-condensation procedure, notably the concentration of (3-cyanopropyl)triethoxysilane in the synthesis medium.
