The present work aims at better understanding and predicting the thermal and structural responses of aluminum components subjected to welding, contributing to the design and fabrication of aluminum ships such as catamarans, lifesaving boats, tourist ships, and fast ships used in transportation or in military applications. Taken into consideration the moving heat source in metal inert gas (MIG) welding, finite element models of plates made of aluminum alloy are established and validated against published experimental results. Considering the temperature-dependent thermal and mechanical properties of the aluminum alloy, thermo-elasto-plastic finite element analyses are performed to determine the size of the heat-affected zone (HAZ), the temperature histories, the distortions, and the distributions of residual stresses induced by the welding process. The effects of the material properties on the finite element analyses are discussed, and a simplified model is proposed to represent the material properties based on their values at room temperature.

Abstract The working tool on the map is a device conceived and realized by the members of the research team on the project entitled “M.U.D.C.-01 Protractor of Angles, Distances and Coordinates”, an element of novelty which aims to solve a problem identified in the daily activity of the military and is ultimately an effective and modern way of working on military topographic maps as well as an easy way for implementing an expeditious procedures of topographic work in field measurement, for required land distances and angles of orientation and navigation. This military protractor can also be used, eventhough it is less user-friendly and is designed primarily to measure the azimuth, angle slopes, distances and rectangular coordinates with two grid scales and standard army military symbols, by military personnel which work on maps in terrain or in military headquarters.

No matter in civil remote sensing or in military investigation, infrared images have an extensive application value. According to the characteristics of the infrared images, in this paper, we build comprehensive feature vectors of airplane identification based on comprehensive consideration of the characteristics of infrared images, including boundary invariant moments , normalized moment of inertia and geometric features. Identifying an air plane by calculating the comparability of feature vector between template image and the image to be identified, the algorithm has been proved by experiments to have a better stability and robustness.

IN STRICT TRUTH, THE FIRST TWENTY OF THE FIFTY ADULT years of my life were spent either in practice at the Bar, or in military intelligence. The latter, and especially in wartime, is, of course, geared to the overriding practical objective of winning a war, though, since I was involved with assessment of the Soviet Union's military strength and achievement, my work provided me with some kind of an introduction to the study of the Soviet Union to which, after the mid-fifties, I was to devote most of my time. But the Bar is far too egocentric an occupation to leave much time for interest in political issues, at most permitting time for the narrow practical pursuit of domestic party politics. For party politics I have never had much appetite – though I did campaign for the Conservative Party in one election.

A Student who looks out siparum in the dictionary is sent on to supparum. Forcellini: ‘sīpărum et sīpărus et sīphărum, v. supparum'; ‘suppărum, i, n. et supparus, i, m… scribitur autem et sifarus et siparum et siparus et sipharutm’. Georges: ‘sīpărum, īphărum (īphărus), s. supparum’; ‘suppărum (īpărum u. īphărum), i, n., u. suppărus (īphărus), i, m. (σíϕαρος)’. Lewis and Short: ‘īpărum or-us, i, v. supparum'; ‘suppărum (īpărum, īpărum, īphărum), i, n. u. suppărus (īphărus), i, m.’ This then is one word, rejoicing in no fewer than eleven forms (most of which I have never met anywhere outside a dictionary2): supparum, supparus, īparum, sĭparum, īpharum, sĭpharum, siparus, sifarus, īpharus, sĭpharus, sĭparium. And to this one word the lexicographers assign two meanings: (I) a topsail (or in military use a sort of banner), (2) a linen garment mostly worn by women. Similar opinions are forthcoming from all quarters: studniczka Beitr. z. Gesch. d. altgr.
