M-polynomial and topological indices of some transformed networks

<abstract><p>In the chemical industry, topological indices play an important role in defining the properties of chemical compounds. They are numerical parameters and structure invariant. It is a proven fact by scientists that topological properties are influential tools for interconnection networks. In this paper, we will use stellation, medial and bounded dual operations to build transformed networks from zigzag and triangular benzenoid structures. Using M-polynomial, we compute the first and second Zagreb indices, second modified Zagreb indices, symmetric division index, general Randic index, reciprocal general Randic index. We also calculate atomic bond connectivity index, geometric arithmetic index, harmonic index, first and second Gourava indices, first and second hyper Gourava indices.</p></abstract>

The TRPM7 Channel in the Nervous and Cardiovascular Systems

: Transient receptor potential melastatin 7 (TRPM7), along with the closely related TRPM6, are unique channels that have dual operations: cation permeability and kinase activity. In contrast to the limited tissue distribution of TRPM6, TRPM7 is widely expressed among tissues and is therefore implicated in a variety of cellular functions physiologically and pathophysiologically. The discovery of TRPM7’s unique structure imparting dual ion channel and kinase activities shed light onto novel and peculiar biological functions, such as Mg2+ homeostasis, cellular Ca2+ flickering, and even intranuclear transcriptional regulation by a cleaved kinase domain translocated to nuclei. Interestingly, at a higher level, TRPM7 participates in several biological processes in the nervous and cardiovascular systems, in which excitatory responses in neurons and cardiomyocytes are critical for their function. Here, we review the roles of TRPM7 in cells involved in the nervous and cardiovascular systems and discuss its potential as a future therapeutic target.

Improving the Methodology for Calculating the Average Turnover of Gondola Cars of an Iron and Steel Plant

The average daily mileage of a wagon, its productivity and turnover determine the level of efficiency of rolling stock use. The car turnover is calculated and normalized not only for the fleet as a whole, but also for each type of rolling stock, for a particular region and road, depending on the nature of the transportation work. Accelerating car turnover increases its productivity and increases profit of an operator company. At the same time, its decrease negativ ely affects the capacity of the infrastructure, entails an increase in the cost of shunting and train work, which means that it will increase the cost of transportation. In modern conditions, turnover is determined for each participant in transportation in accordance with his area of responsibility. For an iron and steel plant, the use of an optimal methodology for recording the time spent by a wagon on its tracks allows us to adequately assess this important quality indicator, as well as to monitor its change as a result of introduction of new technologies for transport maintenance of workshops, reconstruction of station layout and optimization of the transportation process. The objective of the study is to improve the methodology for determining car turnover on access roads of a metallurgical enterprise for universal rolling stock in the context of dual operations. The authors use general scientific methods, mathematical methods, comparative analysis. This article presents the main provisions of the methodology, which will allow determining turnover of gondola cars subject to a single or dual operations in the form of a single indicator which is average weighted car turnover.

Design of a PIN Diode-Based Reconfigurable Metasurface Antenna for Beam Switching Applications

In this paper, we propose a reconfigurable metasurface antenna for beam switching applications. The reconfigurable metasurface is formed by uniformly distributed double-split square rings loaded with positive-intrinsic-negative (PIN) diodes for dual operations of a wave reflector and a wave director. Specifically, when the PIN diodes are forward biased, an epsilon-negative (ENG) metasurface is realized which reflects all incident waves with appropriate polarization; when the diodes are reverse biased, at the same operating frequency, a mu-near-zero (MNZ) metasurface is acquired which directs wave propagation. For excitation, a dipole radiator loaded with the same type of PIN diode is designed. Simulation and measurement results show good agreement and verify the beam switching functionality of the proposed metasurface antenna.

Instructor or Customer Service Representative?: Reflections on Teaching in a For-Profit College

Conversations about the state of higher education in the US are increasingly attuned to the predatory practices of for-profit colleges. The essay offers a critical retrospective engagement with my experience teaching at a for-profit institution of higher education. It provides a theorization of what I found to be a "customer service orientation"--a distinctive expectation the college has about how instructors interact with their students, as well as a skill instructors are asked to foster in students. After briefly outlining the institution's spatial configuration and how that supports its customer service orientation, I focus on two aspects of the for-profit educational experience: 1) the classroom experience within a generic sociology course, where students and I worked against the customer service orientation; and 2) a close reading of a course textbook assigned to all incoming students, which reveals most clearly the dual operations of neoliberal individualism and a customer service orientation. The classroom scenes detailed in this essay depict the complex and calculated negotiations of teachers and students with academic capitalism.
