It plays a key role in many atmospheric processes. The total integrated water vapour or equivalent precipitable water vapour (PWV) can be estimated with the help of Global Positioning System (GPS) Zenith Total Delay (ZTD) data. The value of Zenith Hydrostatic Delay (ZHD) is modeled and subtracting from ZTD will give Zenith wet delay (ZWD). Consequently, the estimated ZWD values will provide PWV in mm almost in a continuous manner. In this paper an attempt has been made for the estimation of PWV in mm during winter season 2003 for New Delhi and Indian Institute of Science (IISC), Bangalore stations using GPS data. The result shows fairly good agreement with the radio-sonde data.

Off-campus Access to Licensed Online Resources through Shibboleth

Institutions of advanced education and research, through their libraries, invest substantially in licensed online resources. Only authorized users of an institution are entitled to access licensed online resources. Seamless on-campus access to licensed resources happens mostly through Internet Protocol (IP) address authentication. Increasingly, licensed online resources are accessed by authorized users from off-campus locations as well. Libraries will, therefore, need to ensure seamless off-campus access to authorized users. Libraries have been using various technologies, including proxy server or virtual private network (VPN) server or single sign-on, to facilitate seamless off-campus access to licensed resources. In this paper, authors share their experience in setting up a Shibboleth-based single sign-on (SSO) access management system at the JRD Tata Memorial Library, Indian Institute of Science, to enable authorized users of the institute to seamlessly access licensed online resources from off-campus locations.

In the field: an interview with Rohini Balakrishnan

Rohini Balakrishnan is a Professor at the Indian Institute of Science, where she investigates animal communication and bioacoustics. After her undergraduate degree in Biology at Mount Carmel College, Bangalore, she completed a Master's degree in Zoology at the University of Pune, India, and a PhD in neurogenetics at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, before undertaking postdoctoral research at McGill University, Canada, and the University of Erlangen, Germany. Telling us about her research experiences in the Kudremukh National Park, India, Rohini Balakrishnan reflects on working with crickets, bushcrickets, bats and elephants, explaining how these animals communicate against loud background noise and why silent female bushcrickets are more vulnerable to bat predation than noisy males.

A Bibliometric Analysis and Visualisation of Research Trends in Toxicity of knee Implants

Several metals are used for Knee implants. Toxicity of metals may lead to toxicity of knee implants. This bibliometric analysis had been conducted to understand the active authors, organizations, journals, and countries involved in the research domain of “toxicity of knee implants”. All published articles related to “toxicity of knee implants” from “Scopus”, were analyzed using the VOS viewer to develop analysis tables and visualization maps. This article had set the objective to consolidate the scientific literature regarding “toxicity of knee implants” and also to find out the trends related to the same. The most active journal in this research domain was Biomaterials. The most active country was the United States of America. The leading organization engaged in research regarding the toxicity of knee implants were the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, India, University of Leeds, United Kingdom, and the Beihang University of China. The most active authors were Hallab N.J. and Jacobs J.J.
