Does My Neck Make Me Clumsy? A Systematic Review of Clinical and Neurophysiological Studies in Humans

Introduction: Clumsiness has been described as a symptom associated with neck pain and injury. However, the actuality of this symptom in clinical practice is unclear. The aim of this investigation was to collect definitions and frequency of reports of clumsiness in clinical studies of neck pain/injury, identify objective measures of clumsiness and investigate the association between the neck and objective measures of clumsiness.Methods: Six electronic databases were systematically searched, records identified and assessed including a risk of bias. Heterogeneity in designs of studies prevented pooling of data, so qualitative analysis was undertaken.Results: Eighteen studies were retrieved and assessed; the overall quality of evidence was moderate to high. Eight were prospective cross-sectional studies comparing upper limb sensorimotor task performance and ten were case series involving a healthy cohort only. Clumsiness was defined as a deficit in coordination or impairment of upper limb kinesthesia. All but one of 18 studies found a deterioration in performing upper limb kinesthetic tasks including a healthy cohort where participants were exposed to a natural neck intervention that required the neck to function toward extreme limits.Conclusion: Alterations in neck sensory input occurring as a result of requiring the neck to operate near the end of its functional range in healthy people and in patients with neck pain/injury are associated with reductions in acuity of upper limb kinesthetic sense and deterioration in sensorimotor performance. Understanding the association between the neck and decreased accuracy of upper limb kinesthetic tasks provide pathways for treatment and rehabilitation strategies in managing clumsiness.

The effects of complex decongestive therapy on kinesthetic sense of hands, upper extremity function, and quality of life in patients with breast cancer-related lymphedema

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the effect of complex decongestive therapy (CDT) on the kinesthetic sense of hands, upper extremity function, and the quality of life in patients with breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL). Patients and methods: Between August 2018 and August 2019, total of 50 women with BCRL (mean age: 56.5±9.6 years; range, 36 to 71 years) were included in the study. Kinesthetic sense of the hand, upper extremity function (Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand [DASH]), quality of life (European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Core Questionnaire [EORTC QLQ-C30]), and arm volume of all patients were evaluated before and after the treatment. All patients received CDT for 20 sessions for 1 h over a total of four weeks. Results: A statistically significant decrease in the volume of the involved extremity was observed after the treatment (p<0.001). There was a significant decrease in the symptom score (p<0.001) and a significant improvement in the general health status and functional scales of the EORTC QLQ-C30 (p<0.001 and p=0.012, respectively). The DASH scores and visual and kinesthetic sense scores of the patients significantly improved after the treatment (p=0.016, p=0.008, and p<0.001, respectively). Conclusion: Our study results show that BCRL is a serious complication which may lead to impairment in the kinesthetic sense of hand and upper extremity function with the increased arm volume. The CDT is an effective and safe method not only to achieve significant volume reduction in the extremities, but also to achieve favorable results in managing these problems.

Student learning styles can be interpreted as the preferred way for students to carry out activities of thinking, processing and understanding information and knowledge in learning. In the process of learning activities, each student has a method or style of learning that is different so that the learning outcomes obtained is varies. In general, the learning styles commonly used by students in the learning process are a combination of visual learning styles (sense of sight), auditive (sense of hearing) and kinesthetic (sense of touch). The introduction of the characteristics of learning styles so that students can know and understand the characteristics of their learning styles, make adjustments to learning methods that are suitable for absorbing science and technology in the learning process in the classroom as well as independent learning outside and at home. Parents of students also need to be given an understanding of the characteristics of their child’s learning styles so they don't make mistakes in disciplining children in learning and better understanding of their children's potential. For example children with dominant kinesthetic learning styles usually cannot stand sitting too long to listen to the teacher's instruction so that they do other activities such as permission and disturb their friends because they can learn better when accompanied by physical activities, as well as with other learning style characters. The results of this activity are satisfying, visible students enthusiastic in identifying learning styles and understanding methods of learning that are suitable and their potential and for parents are also enthusiastic in this activity because they are given direction in understanding their child’s learning styles and potential.

The demands of life in this globalization era are full of information, fast changing and full of competition, and leading people to always do creative. As a result of various changes, new demands were born in the implementation of education. The speed of the changing world's development needs to be balanced by the ability to learn fast. Classical learning, which takes little account of individual differences, and less attention to the development of children, has not been able to keep pace with the speed of world development in this globalization. To plan for education in harmony with the development of children, it means preparing students to become students who are able to learn quickly and perfectly. This means that teachers are required to understand the procedures for presenting new materials for the development of students. Experiences involving visualization (color, shape, size), auditory (sound and rhythm) and kinesthetic (sense and feeling), need to be suited to the child's developmental stage, thus strengthening and enhancing learning outcomes in accordance with this globalization demand. Development of e-sport platform based on virtual reality with functionality

Background/Objectives: National health promotion through physical activities and expanding social participation as well as improvement of public welfare are emerging as important factors in meeting the needs of the times.Government policy and support measures for invigoratingphysical activities of the disabled and the aged are required in public interest. Therefore the development of e-sport machines combined with interest and its contentsis required as not only an infrastructure of physical activity which is able to be national sports as one man one sport but a new sport core technology.Methods/Statistical analysis: Eco-friendly device is adapted for realizing the sense of power of exercise in consideration of sense of using device like a real play and the effect of exercise. Background and character which reflect sport stadium and participating player to enhance a reality and color is realized. Color design for affective appraisals of the elderly is used.Findings: This study makes it possible not only to measure cognitive dysfunction such as dementia of the aged and memory deterioration but to develop the game which can be improved cognitive function through the measurement but to contribute national health improvement. It will be also considered to be able to secure baseline data in development environment forvirtual reality game product, including kinesthetic sense against the national game industry concentrated in online game. The development of tangible content and interface technology based on physical and psychologicalcondition ofthe aged also makes it possible to use indicator for requiring content in silver industryas well as development of sporting goods.It will be utilized data for the development of the applied technique of realistic content with functionality.Improvements/Applications: The game of sports is further developed after considering physical condition of the each elderly andit is expected to develop popular indoor sports and rehabilitation program.
