Sliding-mode controller for a step up-down battery charger with a single current sensor

This paper proposes a battery charger solution based on the Zeta DC/DC converter to provide a general interface between batteries and microgrid direct current (DC) buses. This solution enables to interface batteries and DC buses with voltage conversion ratios lower, equal, and higher than one using the same components and without redesigning the control system, thus ensuring global stability. The converter controller is designed to require only the measurement of a single inductor current, instead of both inductors currents, without reducing the system flexibility and stability. The controller stability is demonstrated using the sliding-mode theory, and a design procedure for the parameters is developed to ensure a desired bus performance. Finally, simulations and experiments validate the performance of the proposed solution under realistic operation conditions.

REEF3D Wave Generation Interface for Commercial CFD Codes

In recent years CFD developments have shown a trend to combine RANS CFD simulation with other methods such as wave theories or velocity potential based numerical wave tanks, in order to reduce to computation costs. This is however not a new approach, and there exists a large amount of literature about domain decomposition techniques describing a two way coupling between the RANS CFD models and other methods. One can also observe an increasing popularity in the use of a less sophisticated technique where different fluid solvers are combined with one-way coupling. In these methods a predefined solution is provided in the far-field, while a three-dimensional (3D) CFD simulation is applied in a limited zone near the structure. The predefined solution is used to specify the background far-field solution. The published solutions use wave theory or a numerical wave tank where the predefined solution is calculated parallel to the RANS solver. In this way it is possible to reduce the interpolation inaccuracy and the amount of transferred data to the CFD simulation. The disadvantage of this technique is that the far field solver has to be prepared in order to run in parallel with the CFD solver. Due to the one way coupling it is possible to predefine this information in tables before the CFD simulation. This technique makes it possible to define a general interface between difference solvers without modifying existing codes. This paper presents such a technique where the predefined solution is stored into files.

Usability Evaluation of the Mobile Application for The Virtual Mobility Learning Hub

The use of MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses) has become very popular in the past few years. Such courses can teach a large variety of skills, including the basics of virtual mobilities, both for students and teachers. The Open VMLH (Virtual Mobility Learning Hub) is an innovative multilingual environment which was created as part of the Erasmus+ Open Virtual Mobility project, with the purpose to promote collaborative learning, social connectivism and networking as an instructional method, OERs as the main content, and open digital credentials. In this paper, we will present the usability evaluation of the Open VMLH mobile application, a mix of heuristic and cognitive evaluation methods. Some of the issues discovered are related to the general interface and functionality of the mobile application, while others are related to the structure of the courses and the implementation of the content, but just a couple of them are critical for the user experience.

NLO QCD+NLO EW corrections to diboson production matched to parton shower

We present the matching of NLO QCD and NLO EW corrections to parton showers for vector-boson pair production at the LHC. We consider leptonic final states, including resonant and non-resonant diagrams, spin correlations and off-shell effects. Our results are obtained interfacing the Recola2-Collier one-loop provider with the framework. We discuss our implementation, we validate it at fixed order, and we show our final results matched to parton shower. A by-product of our work is also a general interface between Recola2-Collier and . This is the first time that EW and QCD corrections to diboson production are consistently matched to parton showers.

This paper presents such a technique where the predefined solution is stored into files. An interpolation function delivers all data to the far-field solution for the CFD simulation. The paper analyses the necessary accuracy of the interpolation and the costs of the input/output operation of the CFD simulation through several verification cases.

Design of Hand-held Terminal for Orchard Management Based on RFID

A hand-held terminal for orchard information collection is designed, which can identify and realize individual plant precision management based on RFID technology. The equipment adopt RS-485 serial bus and MODBUS communication protocol as the general interface for different sensors, to achieve data acquisition requirements including the fruit tree image, air temperature and humidity, soil moisture etc. Meanwhile, build the cloud database that use SIM900A wireless communication module for real-time upload of data, and it can generate nephogram and data analysis report through GPS positioning. Field test results showed that the terminal has high detection accuracy with worked stably and simple operation. Finally, it realized the sharing of sensor information and automatic data acquisition in orchard, with great application and promotion value.
