This paper aims to investigate the internal audit implementation in European and non-European public hospitals or public bodies. Researchers conducted a systematic literature review based on various fields and countries (European and non-European). Our results revealed differences between countries regarding the role and effectiveness of internal audit of public hospitals in each country. European countries need to address different challenges concerning internal audit in comparison to non-European countries. For instance, European public hospitals need to implement internal audit to develop their risk management practices. In contrast, the public hospitals of non-European countries need to address challenges and issues related to the high corruption rate, the lack of transparency and accountability, and the lack of competent staff. Upon completion, this systematic literature review provided some evidence for further research on the matter under investigation. While recognizing the limitations of our analysis, we believe we have significantly contributed to the evolution of the international and Greek literature concerning the implementation of internal audit in European and non-European countries.

The primary objective of the study was to describe the extent to which personnel differentiation strategies may be used to gain competitive advantage among Private Tertiary Education Institutions in Botswana. The study examined how personnel differentiation may be employed by private tertiary education institutions in order to achieve competitive advantage. The study used descriptive survey research and the findings revealed that the private universities have to a certain extent employed personnel differentiation strategies. However, institutions have not done enough to clearly stand out as differentiated universities. The study recommends that the universities must appeal to prospective employers; hire, train and retain competent staff, and also get involved in activities that will enhance institutions’ credibility. Institutions need to work together with key stakeholders and continually seek ways to attain competitive advantage through personnel differentiation.

AbstractDrawing on a positive organizational scholarship (POS) approach, this paper presents findings from the first of a two-part study exploring user experiences of brilliant renal care within the Regional Dialysis Centre in Blacktown (RDC-B). A world café method was used engaging patients, carers, and staff in conversations about brilliance. Practitioners led the study, seeking to validate their claims that the RDC-B is an exemplar of brilliant care. Pragmatics dominated the fieldwork. Researchers and practitioners collaborated throughout the study, including hosting two world cafés. Key findings from the study are that the RDC-B is completely patient and relationally-centred, with high-quality connections, dedicated and competent staff providing a complete, responsive, and personalized service that is also like being in a family. Drawing on POS, we suggest that relational-centred care requires at the very least high-quality connections and relational coordination to build and sustain the levels of positivity identified in the RDC-B.

This chapter provides a critical comparative analysis of Australia’s Land and Environment Court (LEC) and India’s National Green Tribunal (NGT) with reference to their historical background, relevant statutory provisions, and functioning of LEC in New South Wales and NGT in India. It suggests that though to begin with both of these adjudicatory bodies in environmental issues have faced challenges, the LECs in Australia have now achieved a high standard for environmental adjudication. On the other hand, NGT in India is comparatively new and will take its time to establish its impact on environmental issues. For ensuring the success of NGT in India, the chapter argues for support to it from the various stakeholders in particular of the Ministry of Environment and Forests and Climate Change for removing the hurdles in its effective and efficient working among others through infrastructural and competent staff capable of handling effectively the multiple issues that are brought before it.

This chapter deliberates on the role and importance of area-based management governance in forging and consolidating the developmental local government at eThekwini Municipality in South Africa. Considering the challenges faced by developmental local government to fulfill its constitutional mandate, the chapter argues that the grounding and consolidation of area-based management governance could be instrumental in economic growth, job creation, poverty alleviation, and meeting basic needs. However, for area-based governance to succeed in addressing these challenges, appropriate structures of democratic accountability and coordination coupled with competent staff could be entrenched. This could also be done by sticking to key developmental goals as outlined in the eThekwini Municipality's integrated development plan. The chapter made use of secondary data in the form of books, journal articles, and governmental policies and documents as well as selected interviews with key participants in five area-based areas.
