Abstract We observe a direct relation between the existence of fundamental axionic strings, dubbed EFT strings, and infinite distance limits in 4d $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 1 EFTs coupled to gravity. The backreaction of EFT strings can be interpreted as RG flow of their couplings, and allows one to probe different regimes within the field space of the theory. We propose that any 4d EFT infinite distance limit can be realised as an EFT string flow. We show that along such limits the EFT string becomes asymptotically tensionless, and so the EFT eventually breaks down. This provides an upper bound for the maximal field range of an EFT with a finite cut-off, and reproduces the Swampland Distance Conjecture from a bottom-up perspective. Even if there are typically other towers of particles becoming light, we propose that the mass of the leading tower scales as m2 ∼ $$ \mathcal{T} $$ T w in Planck units, with $$ \mathcal{T} $$ T the EFT string tension and w a positive integer. Our results hold even in the presence of a non-trivial potential, as long as its energy scale remains well below the cut-off. We check both proposals for large classes of 4d $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 1 string compactifications, finding that only the values w = 1, 2, 3 are realised.

The CEPC booster will accelerate the [Formula: see text] beam from 10 GeV to 120 GeV, so the field of the dipole magnets will change with the beam energy, of which the minimal working field is 29 Gs whereas the maximal field is 338 Gs. To reach the requirement of high precision at lower field level, three kinds of new dipole magnets are proposed and studied. To test and verify the designs of the magnets, two subscale prototype magnets are fabricated.

BACKGROUND: The Stewart-Treves syndrome with localisation in the region of the lower extremities is not something unusual as clinical pathology, but the clinical diagnostics is rather difficult, and it can be further complicated maximally because of: the similar locoregional findings in patients with other cutaneous malignancies.CASE REPORT: Presented is a rare form of an epithelioid variant of the Stewart Treves syndrome in a woman, aged 81, localised in the region of the lower leg and significantly advanced only for 2 months. The diagnosis was confirmed histologically and immunohistochemically. Amputation of the affected extremity was planned. Discussed are important etiopathogenetic aspects regarding the approach in patients with lymphedema and possibility for development of the Stewart Treves syndrome.CONCLUSION: Analyzing the evidence from the literature worldwide, we concluded that perhaps the only reliable (to some extent) therapeutic option in patients with Stewart Treves Syndrome is 1) the early diagnostics and 2) the following inevitable radical excision or amputation with the maximal field of surgical security in the proximal direction.

AbstractGiven the recent renewed interest in alternative description of gravity theories in terms of topological BF models (possibly with extra-constraints) as well as in dual formulations of linearized gravity (DFLG), all consistent interactions in D=6 involving an Abelian BF model with a maximal field spectrum and the DFLG via a massless tensor field with the mixed symmetry of the type (3,1) are considered.

All consistent interactions in D = 7 that can be added to one of the dual formulations of linearized gravity via a massless tensor field with the mixed symmetry (4, 1) and an Abelian BF theory with a maximal field spectrum are constructed by means of deforming the solution to the master equation on behalf of specific cohomological techniques. Among the striking features of the coupled model, we mention that the gauge transformations of all fields are deformed and the main ingredients of the gauge structure are strongly modified during the deformation procedure.

Giant magneto-impedance (GMI) effects were investigated in CuBe / CoNiP and CuBe /Insulator/ CoNiP composite wires prepared by electroless deposition on pure or insulated CuBe wires. Experimental results show that the maximal GMI ratio and the field sensitivity of the composite wires are further improved by adding an insulator layer between the CuBe core and ferromagnetic layer. A distinct MI effect was observed in the composite wires with insulator even at low frequencies. MI ratio is about 18% at 20 kHz and 239% at 600 kHz. The maximal field sensitivity is 34%/Oe at 600 kHz. The properties of GMI in these composite wires are analyzed via complex permeability.

The field-effect mobility and Hall mobility of electrons in lateral, accumulation-mode GaN MOSFETs have been comparatively studied. The devices were fabricated on three different samples, Sample A consisting of 70 nm n-type ( N D = 5×1017 cm -3) GaN and Sample B 0.5 μm unintentionally doped ( N D < 1×1016 cm -3) GaN , both on 2 μm undoped Al 0.35 Ga 0.65 N grown on the n +- SiC substrates and Sample C 3 μm unintentionally doped GaN on the sapphire substrate. The maximal field-effect mobilities are 120 cm2/V-s, 90 cm2/V-s and 53 cm2/V-s respectively in the three samples. The Hall mobility is also measured for Samples A & B and reaches a maximal value of 160 cm2/V-s.

Abstract The sandwich grid diode is a new means of producing extremly high elektrical fields at a solid surface. The ability to ionize gases and to produce field electrons with such a thin film system permits an estimate of the maximal field strength. It is interesting to note, that with this diode one can produce fields higher than 5-107 V/cm in gases up to atmospheric pressure without the risk of a discharge. This fact may become of some importance for the study of field induced desorption and catalysis.
