High-Temperature Fluidized Bed Processing of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) as a Way to Recover Raw Materials

This paper explores the effectiveness of metal recovery and values of gaseous emissions during thermal e-waste processing followed by magnetic separation. The thermal process of conversion of this kind of waste is difficult due to the uncertainty of the operation when compared to the processing of homogeneous materials. This is due to their complex and heterogeneous structure. The adoption of the fluidized bed reactor makes the process feasible, stabilizing it significantly and limiting emissions of harmful gases. Mobile cellphones were used as the raw input material of 450 g total mass. During the thermal transformation, the exhaust gases such as: CO, CO2, NOx, SO2, HCI, HBr, HCN, NH3, phenol, hydrocarbons, HF and COCI2 were analysed. The thermal treatment resulted in 333.6 g of solids in the fluidized bed. They were fragmented into grains smaller than 1 mm and 0.5 mm. The process of magnetic enrichment was used next on grains greater than 1 mm and smaller than 0.5 mm. The process was carried out using a neodymium magnet for particles >1 mm and a plate electromagnetic separator (powered by a three-phase current) together with a 1-disc tape-type separator, which was used for particles <1 mm. Such an approach resulted in the recovery of 81.9% of cobalt, 96.6% of iron and 99.2% of neodymium. The most efficient method of magnetic enriching (MS) proved to be the use of the electromagnetic plate separator.

Analysis of Droplet Impacting on Inclined Wall

The steam generator is an important part of the nuclear power plant, and the corrugated plate separator plays the important role of drying steam in the steam generator to improve power generation efficiency and protect the safety of the system. The separation mechanism of the corrugated plate separator is relatively complicated. The droplets are moved by the drag force of the steam and gravity in the corrugated plate separator, and captured by the wall of the corrugated plate separator. When the velocity is increased, the inertial force of droplet is increased, so that the droplet is more easily captured by the wall of the corrugated plate separator, and the separation efficiency of the corrugated plate separator is increased. In this paper, the phenomenon of droplet impact on the inclined wall is studied by high-speed photography technology, and the cause and mechanism of the phenomenon are analyzed. By analyzing the spreading and splashing on the droplets impacting on the inclined wall, the relationship between the inclination angle of the droplet impacting on the inclined wall and the spreading is obtained, and the influence of droplets with different Weber numbers, and dry and wetted walls were analyzed, which provide a basis for the optimization of the corrugated plate separator.

TO STUDY AND ANALYSIS OF PEM FUEL CELL WITH VARIOUS TYPE OF PARAMETERS

In this paper, we are observed the PEM fuel Cells, which are consist of anode plate, cathode plate, separator, oxygen gases, and hydrogen gases. Separators are used to between the anode plate and cathode plate. The various mass flow rates of oxygen gases and hydrogen gases are obtaining with the help of controlling valve of cylinders. In this way we are achieving the various voltages.

Study on the Performance of a Kind of Corrugated-Plate Separator

In order to guarantee the safe and economic operation of nuclear power plant, providing the steam of high quality is very important. As the last stage of the steam-water separating device, corrugated-plate separator has low pressure loss and high separation efficiency, so it is widely used in various types of nuclear power plant. Due to the complexity of the flow field inside the corrugated-plate separator and the immaturity of the numerical method, the research on the corrugated-plate separator is mainly based on experiment. In this work, a kind of corrugated-plate separator with new structures are studied by means of experiment. In this work, test bed was built with plexiglass. The separation characteristics, resistance characteristics and critical inlet flow velocities of the two structures of separators at different inlet velocities were studied respectively. The following conclusions were obtained: With the increase of the inlet-air velocity, the separation efficiency increases, and the pressure loss increases too. But when the critical inlet flow velocity is reached, increasing the air velocity will reduce the separation efficiency. Considering the influence of structural parameters and airflow parameters, the optimum structural parameters of two kinds of wave plates are obtained. By contrast, it is found that the performance of double-hook corrugated-plate is better than that of single-hook corrugated-plate.

Investigation of Performance of High Velocity Air Intake Wave-Plate Separators for Marine Gas Turbines

Due to the advantages of great power, small size and light weight, the application of gas turbines in marine power facilities has increased a lot over time. Concerning the factors of off-shore operating environments which include the huge air intake quantity, the massive mist marine circumstance and the precious vessel available capacity, this paper combined experimental study with numerical simulation to investigate the performance of a type of new air intake wave-plate separator which can be applied under high intake velocity conditions. The total pressure drop was measured in a small wind tunnel with the inlet velocities of the separators ranging from 1.0 to 15.0 m/s. The resistance characteristics of high velocity wave-plate separators were simulated under the same velocity range described above. The separation efficiencies of high velocity wave-plate separators were simulated under the inlet velocity of 14.0 m/s, and the liquid diameters were 5μm, 10μm, 15μm and 20μm respectively. By analyzing the results of experiments and simulations, this paper draws the conclusion that high velocity wave-plate separators can keep high separation efficiencies and acceptable total pressure drop under high inlet velocities.

Physical separation for upgradation of valuable minerals: a study on sands of the Someswari river

The study is carried out to develop a physical separation method for upgradation of valuable minerals from sands of the Someswari River. Understanding the morphology and mineralogy of the heavy minerals may allow development of processing methods that produce the higher grade products. For this purpose, grain size analysis, microscopic, spectroscopic study and feasibility of physical separation by shaking table, electrostatic plate separator and induced roll magnetic separator have been done. Considering the huge quantity of sandy materials of the studied river sands and separation of heavy minerals magnetite, ilmenite and garnet from the bulk sands and further treatment of the light mineral quartz to remove iron coating could be use as glass-sands; either the light mineral quartz or heavy minerals will be the main product.
