Determination of Protonation Constants of Viral Inhibitor, Aurintricarboxylic Acid in SDS and CTAB Micellar Media: A Potentiometric Study

Protonation constants of a viral inhibitor, aurintricarboxylic acid were determined using potentiometric method of data acquisition followed by chemometric modelling methods of analysis in the presence of two different kinds of micellar media, CTAB, a cationic micelle and SDS, an anionic micelle. MINIQUAD75 program was used for the determination of the plausible species and their corresponding formation constants at 303 ± 0.1 K and 0.01 M ionic strength. Five formation constants were identified corresponding to five ionizable hydrogens. Species concentration distribution diagrams were generated using Origin software. Best-fit chemical models were selected on the basis of statistical parameters like standard deviation (SD), U (sum of the squares of the residuals in mass balance equations) and chi-square test. It was found that the formation constants are lower in CTAB micellar medium while there is no significant change in the presence of SDS compared to aqueous medium.

Phenylboronic Ester-Modified Anionic Micelles for ROS-Stimuli Response in HeLa Cell

Smart polymers as ideal drug nanocarriers have attracted much attention due to the effective drug delivery, internalization and release once triggered by intracellular stimuli, as well as reduced cytotoxicity. We here reported the anionic micelle consisting of copolymer (PEG-b-PAsp) and a PBE（Phenylboronic Ester） group grafted, which can achieve fast response to intracellular ROS and enhanced anti-tuomr activity. With this, PEG-b-PAsp-g-PBE/DOX system showed better tumor growth inhibition when studied on HeLa cell lines with high level of intracellular ROS and its subcutaneous tumor models. Additionally, the administration of PEG-b-PAsp-g-PBE/DOX did cause significantly lower systemic toxicity in comparison with free DOX. Hence, PEG-b-PAsp-g-PBE could be a highly efficient and safe nanocarrier to improve the efficacy of chemotherapeutic.

An iron-based micropore-enriched silica catalyst: in situ confining of Fe2O3 in the mesopores and its improved catalytic properties

With a novel anionic micelle templating method, Fe2O3 species were in situ formed and highly-dispersed and the pore size tailored to the microporous level (<2 nm). The catalyst exhibited high selectivity for dihydroxybenzene in phenol hydroxylation.

Static Quenching of Ruthenium(II)-Polypyridyl Complexes by Gallic Acid and Quercetin in Aqueous and Micellar Media

The reactions of gallic acid and quercetin with the excited state Ru(II) complexes proceed through photoinduced electron transfer reaction in sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and aqueous media at pH 11 and has been studied by luminescence quenching technique. The static nature of quenching is confirmed from the ground state absorption studies in both the media. The observed quenching rate constant (kq) values are sensitive to the nature of the ligand, medium and the structure of the quenchers. The electrostatic interaction of the cationic complexes with the anionic micelle reduces the kq values in SDS compared to that in aqueous medium.
