Abstract Tele-technologies may be able to increase access to evidence-based exercise interventions for adults aging with long-term mobility disabilities. This population experiences substantial barriers in attending such programs in person, including lack of transportation to classes, inaccessible buildings where classes are held, and lack of appropriate modifications offered for this population of older adults. It is critical to overcome such barriers to ensure this population has an opportunity to receive the benefits of evidence-based programs. In this study we are translating an in-person evidence-based tai chi intervention, Tai Chi for Arthritis, to an online platform using videoconferencing software for those aging with long-term mobility disabilities. We will describe our approach of including users from the target population and industry representatives (videoconferencing software developer, Tai Chi for Arthritis program developer as well as local master trainer) in the adaptation of the intervention and present the key findings from doing so.

Coach developers play essential roles in “coaching the coaches,” and investigating their lifelong learning pathway is key for better understanding the mechanisms that lead certain coaches to become coach developers. Thus, the purpose of the paper was to conduct a case study to investigate the lifelong learning pathway of a coach developer operating in a national sport federation. The case investigated is Mille, a certified coach developer in charge of the Brazilian Rugby Federation’s coach education program. Data were collected through the Rappaport Time Line and two semi-structured interviews. An interpretative phenomenological analysis was adopted to explore the lived experiences reported by the participant. The results highlighted that Mille is an individual driven by challenges provided either by external factors (i.e. school, university, work) or by his own choices (i.e. becoming a coach, becoming a coach developer, starting a PhD) for personal and professional development. Specific life events led him to make decisions for evolving in his roles, from athlete, to coach, to coach developer, and to “master trainer,” which is the highest level of certification provided by World Rugby. Practical implications are suggested to contribute to the organization of education initiatives for coach developers through a lifelong learning perspective.

Helping Babies Breath (HBB) is an evidence based educational curriculum practiced worldwide to teach neonatal resuscitation. It is famous and cost effective intervention in resource limited setting. In this regard, we have been implementing HBB program in Nepal through hospitals where delivery rate is higher. In this program, a pair of trainers have been trained as Master Trainer. These trainer back to hospital and train their colleagues in own facility. We have already produced more than seven hundred master trainers from hospital, nursing college, medical colleges and university in Nepal. Through the program, it aims to reduce the neonatal morbidity and mortality so that the country will achieve the target set by SDGs.

As Malaysia sets out to realise their plan of the English Language Education Reform, the adaptation and implementation of Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) is an obvious choice; however, creating a high-calibre teaching workforce to carry it out poses a significant challenge. This critical reflection article elucidates the implementation of CEFR in Malaysian Pre-, Primary and Secondary schools from the perspective of a National Master Trainer (NMT) who attended multiple courses by Cambridge English Super Trainers (CEST) before going on to train English language teachers using the Cascade Training Model. Based on the trainer’s experience, this article discusses the progress of the training, starting from CEST as the first tier, NMT as the second tier, and District Trainer (DT) as the third tier, until it reaches the teachers who will apply their knowledge and skills in the classroom. We conclude that despite the long and careful planning in terms of teacher training for the CEFR implementation, there are various aspects that need improvements, to better guarantee success in producing an English language programme along with international standards, as the plan dictates.

Evidence-based (EB) programs provide a tested means for addressing serious public health concerns. While establishing and maintaining fidelity to these programs is critical for high-quality outcomes, unfortunately, implementation reports rarely describe the strategies used to train and monitor fidelity in community-based implementations. Thus, an essential translational ingredient is a clearly articulated model for establishing a systemic, sustainable fidelity framework. This article provides a detailed description of the fidelity-focused framework developed for Michigan’s statewide implementation of the Savvy Caregiver Program. This framework, titled Creating Confident Caregivers® (CCC), instilled conceptual understanding of fidelity, practice adherence, and competence via ongoing progressive practitioner training, peer observation, participant evaluation, and experiential assessments. Practitioners maintained very high evaluations from participants, and a select cadre of practitioners achieved master trainer status to monitor regional fidelity. This framework promotes sustainable fidelity to EB interventions and provides a replicable platform for other community-based implementations.

Purpose – Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS) is being widely promoted in healthcare settings to train staff in evidence-based approaches that promote patient safety. It involves a comprehensive curriculum that spells out key principles and actionable tools for a culture change toward patient-safety-focussed teamwork. Activities begin with selected personnel attending TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer Training (MTT) and then organizing and providing TeamSTEPPS training for staff in their organization. The authors conducted interviews with respondents at community hospitals conducting TeamSTEPPS staff training. To structure the interviews, the authors used 11 key questions identified by Weaver et al. in their in-depth team training literature review. The purpose of this paper is to examine approaches taken by community hospital personnel and compare those to the best practices recommended by Weaver et al. Design/methodology/approach – The authors interviewed 57 staff and administrators at 22 community hospitals sending teams to TeamSTEPPS MTT. Findings – The authors find that training implementation in community hospitals differs significantly from the established, research-based principles for effective team training described in the research literature, which is largely based in academic medical centers. Originality/value – The current findings suggest that several TeamSTEPPS training features could be enhanced in community hospitals including: choosing staff who have the skills to be effective trainers in this train-the-trainer model; emphasizing active learning; and sustaining lessons through on-the-job application, practice and feedback. These principles apply to many training approaches employed in small healthcare organizations.
