This paper considers issues on the life definition of category A structures for the buildings of CC3 class of consequences (liability) that may have defects at the beginning of operation or damages accumulated in the process of operation. The calculations to check resistance to cyclic loads shall be made for the stated structures at the design stage. The research includes analysis of requirements of Ukrainian and international regulatory documents for the calculation of structure components for quasistatic, low-cyclic fatigue and cyclic cracking resistance.

Gibberella and Diplodia ear rot is a disease that can damage the corn cobs and corn kernels resulting in lower quality and quantity of seed. The objective of the research are to find the varieties of corn which are resistant  the ear  rot disease Gibberella and Diplodia. This study was conducted in Limang Karo regency, North Sumatera, a randomized block design with three replications, each treatment comprised 4 rows and each row contained 25 plants with a spacing of 75 x 20 cm. The results showed 25 Hybrid maize tested against Gibberella ear rot there are 7 Hybrid corn hybrids that are resistant to ear rot  Kenia-2, NK33, Bima 3, Bima 10 Bima 12 Q, NEI-9008 and X8B649 (check resistance) and moderately resistance there are 9 hybrid that Kenia-3, DK979, NK22, P12, Gumarang, Srikandi putih, Lamuru and Sukmaraga  and 9 hybrid to ear rot disease were reacted susceptible and highly susceptible. Whereas from 25 Hybrid maize tested against Diplodia ear rot there are 6 Hybrid corn hybrids resistant to ear rot disease is Kenia - 2, NK33, Bima 3, Bima 12 Q, NEI-9008 and X8B649 (check resistance) while that is moderately resistancet there are 11 hybrid that is Kenia-3, DK979, NK22, P29, Bisi 2, P12, Bima 10, Gumarang, Srikandi putih, Lamuru and Sukmaraga, while 8 hybrid others were reacted susceptible and highly susceptible.

Abstract Fatigue failure is a common problem with bolted joints. Preloading can often offer great advantage, in that it reduces the intensity of the alternative part of strains. Although it is more and more usual to carry out very precise finite element calculations, it should be highlighted that the error arising from simulations or experiments may be surprisingly great when looking at supplements of strain, i.e. alternative strain. That is one of the reasons why designing preloaded bolted joints requires great care, and sometimes turns out to be impractical. A partnership has been established for several years with a group of industrial manufacturers and users of slewing bearings. The objective is to model a parameterised bolt-assembled slewing bearing system and to develop a simulation tool that • allows us to check resistance of the bolts for maximum load as well as fatigue load • runs much faster than a three-dimensional simulation in order to enable us to compare multiple configurations, in order to be used in early design stages.

Euscepes postfasciatus is one of the most important sweetpotato pests in the South Pacific, Caribbean basin, and some countries of Central and South America. Development of host resistance will greatly improve the effects of integrated pest management (IPM) for this pest. Ten transgenic clones of `Jewel' sweetpotato with cowpea trypsin inhibitors and snowdrop lectin, developed by Axis Agri. Genetics, Ltd., were assayed for weevil resistance using a no-choice bioassay. A replicated experiment was conducted in the screenhouse. Five storage roots from each clone were infested with five pairs of adults. Non-transformed `Jewel' was used as a check. Resistance was assessed 60 days after infestation by estimating the percentage of internal damage and the weevil population in the storage roots. A five-grade damage index was recorded. The experiment was repeated twice. Significant enhancement of resistance was found in the transgenic clones. Clone CTI-13 with cowpea trypsin inhibitor and clone PCG-7 with both cowpea trypsin inhibitor and snowdrop lectin demonstrated moderate resistance to E. postfasciatus, whereas the non-transformed `Jewel' was susceptible. This result shows that resistance to Euscepes postfasciatus can be achieved through genetic transformation.
