It is well known that the flexibility of robotic links causes deformation and reduced positioning accuracy of the robot at the end-effector. This problem becomes more complicated when the links are made of new materials, such as composite. Various approaches including strain gauges, fiber Bragg grating, computer vision and optoelectronics have been applied to solve the problem. This work proposes an optoelectronic method with a reduced number of position sensing detectors and laser diodes to determine both bending and torsion deformations of a robotic link. The attachment of two optoelectronic sensors on the link and the two laser dots produced on these sensors by diodes provide the data required for computations. The tip deflection values are obtained using trigonometric functions. Both iterative and explicit methods of link tip movement have been analysed for efficiency and accuracy. The methods have been validated experimentally and error analysis has been performed.

Cervical cancer is considered to be particularly amenable to prevention and highly treatable in its early stages. The real-time optoelectronic method of cervix examination seemed to be very promising in the detection of cervical squamous intraepithelial lesions and demonstrated relatively good efficacy. Although this method was introduced into clinics almost 10 years ago, it has not found its place in diagnostic schemes. At the moment, cytological smears and HPV detection with genotyping are still essential. TruScreen seems to be a slightly forgotten test. The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy and accuracy of TruScreen in detecting cervical pathology: CIN and cervical cancer confirmed with a histopathological diagnosis in comparison with other methods–cytology and colposcopy over four years of observations. The study was conducted on 130 women with abnormal Pap smear results. We can conclude that a real-time optoelectronic method like TruScreen can be useful as an effective initial cervical cancer screening in developing countries, possibly in combination with other methods. The combination of cytology and TruScreen examination may help clinicians to take decision about the next diagnostics steps (e.g. colposcopy) and contribute to better primary screening for cervical cancer.

The current problem of automatic control and stabilization of the weight of cotton belts at the spinning mill is highlighted. Structural diagrams are given and the principle of operation of an optoelectronic device for automatic control and stabilization of the weight of cotton bands is described. The principle of the optoelectronic method for monitoring the linear density of cotton tapes is stated.

This paper characterizes the problem of matching masks that are part of individual means of protection against contamination. The method of matching masks in the Polish Armed Forces with the use of irritating chemical agents such as chloropicrin and CS was analyzed. The paper presents the results of tests on the matching of modern filtering masks using the optoelectronic method during long-term use. They were analyzed and compared with the results of the reference method ‒ total internal leakage. Keywords: defense against weapons of mass destruction, individual protective equipment, fitting filter masks

A new device for controlling the quality of motor oil of agricultural machines is proposed. To increase the information content of the output data and the possibility of uninterrupted automated control, as well as to increase the accuracy, efficiency and reliability of measurements, the device uses an optoelectronic method based on the “drip test” method.

The aim of the study was to analyze the relationship between the angle of spinal curvature and surface electromyography (SEMG) amplitude of the erector spinae in young school-children. A total of 251 children aged 7–8 participated in the study. The analysis involved 103 (41%) children with scoliosis, 141 (56.17%) with scoliotic posture, and seven (3.0%) with normal posture. Body posture was evaluated using the Diers formetric III 4D optoelectronic method. Analysis of SEMG amplitude of the erector spinae was performed with the Noraxon TeleMyo DTS apparatus. A significant correlation was found between the angle of spinal curvature and the SEMG amplitude of the erector spinae. The most important and statistically significant predictor of the SEMG amplitude and scoliosis angle in the scoliosis group was the standing position, chest segment, right side. The largest generalized SEMG amplitude of the erector spinae occurred in both boys and girls with scoliosis. Impaired balance of muscle tension in the erector spinae can trigger a set of changes that create a clinical and anatomopathological image of spinal curvature.
