Abstract. Electric train driver work requires visual, auditory, tactile systems functioning high level, as well as mentality. These requirements caused the study directed to analyze the professional performance effectiveness these indicators, psychophysiological parameters including, for training and retraining in train driver (assistant train driver) profession. The research was carried out in the base of the training centers of professional qualifications of JSC «Russian Railways», 106 people were examined (age 27.2± 5.4 years) who were trained to perform all operations under work as train driver: first theoretically, then practically by special simulators use. There were evaluated: cardiovascular system state, complex visual-motor reaction time, «Landolt Ring» correction test as well as psychological methods of personal properties testing: reflection, self-regulation of behavior; the method of differentiated assessment of working capacity reduced. The dependence of working capacity of factor’s complex are determined. There are: organism’s functional state, psycho-emotional strain, adaptation mechanisms, motivational involvement, and target aspiration. Based on obtained data a set of promising methods has been determined to identify the possibility of reliable of driver operation and adjustment of his activities aimed at improving self-regulation skills as one of the main criteria for reliability of work.

This research aimed to find out how lighting influence visual task performance of the elderly. The experiment was done on the table with different lamp position and by giving mark on the landolt ring chart printed on different reading media. Three position, the front, the middle and the back were the variables for lamp position, whilst different reading medias were the brown paper usually used for newspaper, the white silk uncoated paper or  ‘HVS’ paper and the white gloss paper. The lamp were TL5 LED with 4000 °K and 6500 °K color temperature. The illumination level maintained specificly at 250-325 lux range. The respondents were 12 elderly with 58 years as the mean age. The result findings, for newspaper, the best position for speed was the front with 1.15 second per stroke; followed by the back with 1.18 second per stroke; and the middle got the lowest result with 1.4 second per stroke. For the HVS and glossy paper with higher luminance, the best for speed was the middle position that was the darkest in illumination, with 1.25 second per stroke for HVS and 1.3 second per stroke for glossy. The worst result was the back with 1.4 second per stroke for HVS and 1.36 second per stroke for glossy paper. For accuracy, the best for newspaper was the front, 96.02%. For the HVS paper, the middle and the back position has got the same highest accuracy, 90.45%. For the glossy paper, the middle position has got the highest accuracy, 91.62%. The visual task performance result, for the newspaper, the front position has got the highest score, followed by the back position that have brighter in illumination, but the score was lowest for the middle position. Contrary, for white HVS and white gloss paper, which get almost identic result, the middle position which was rather dark in illumination was the best, while the front and the back position were worse in visual task performance score. So that can be concluded that the higher illumination level was not always give the best to visual task performance; but depending to the user and the kind of paper or reading media as well.

Abstract One of the advantages of a source method over observer method in blur perception measurements is better control of a stimulus blur level, which is achieved with computerised image processing unlike the observer method that requires optical defocusing of the observer. The aim of this study was to determine if paralysation of accommodation has effect on blur perception thresholds, thereby evaluating its necessity in such experiments. Blur perception thresholds (just noticeable blur, clear image, recognition, and non-resolvable blur thresholds) were evaluated with (using cycloplegia) and without paralysed accommodation to determine effect on blur perception. A computerised low-pass spatial frequency filter was used to process images of Landolt rings and gradually increase the blur level from the stage of clear image to the stage of unrecognisable orientation of Landolt ring opening. Ascending and descending psychophysical methods were used to evaluate the previously mentioned blur perception thresholds. Results for 10 participants revealed no significant effect of cycloplegia on any of the determined blur perception thresholds. Therefore, it may be considered that blur perception measurements with source method can be done without cycloplegia.

Purpose. To report a case of atypical dome-shaped choroidal osteoma, which was diagnosed by histopathological finding of surgically extracted tumor. Case Report. A 35-year-old woman presented with visual field abnormality in the left eye (OS). Her best-corrected visual acuity with Landolt ring chart was 1.0 OS. The funduscopic examination revealed a yellowish dome-shaped choroidal tumor located in the temporal side of the macula with exudative retinal detachment. 25-gauge pars plana vitrectomy and the extraction of the tumor were performed for the definitive diagnosis. Results. As a result of histopathological finding from the extracted tumor, she was diagnosed with choroidal osteoma. 10 months after the last surgery, the BCVA is 0.7 OS. The tumor is not relapsed. Conclusions. We must keep in mind that choroidal osteoma can be one of the differential diagnoses for the dome-shaped choroidal tumor.
