Control of global variables for identical and non-identical Josephson junctions arrays

In the paper a way to solve an LQ-problem for a Josephson junction array with a common LRC-load is proposed. The cases of identical and non-identical Josephson junctions are considered. The solution ensures phase stabilization of Josephson current in every junction. The results are obtained using computer simulation in Jupyter Notebook and MATLAB.

Coulomb Blockade Thermometry Beyond the Universal Regime

The charge localization of single electrons on mesoscopic metallic islands leads to a suppression of the electrical current, known as the Coulomb blockade. When this correction is small, it enables primary electron thermometry, as it was first demonstrated by Pekola et al. (Phys Rev Lett 73:2903, 1994). However, in the low temperature limit, random charge offsets influence the conductance and limit the universal behavior of a single metallic island. In this work, we numerically investigate the conductance of a junction array and demonstrate the extension of the primary regime for large arrays, even when the variations in the device parameters are taken into account. We find that our simulations agree well with measured conductance traces in the submillikelvin electron temperature regime.

Description of zero field steps on the potential energy surface of a Frenkel-Kontorova model for annular Josephson junction arrays

We explain the emergence of zero field steps (ZFS) in a Frenkel-Kontorova (FK) model for a 1D annular chain being a model for an annular Josephson junction array. We demonstrate such steps for a case with a chain of 10 phase differences. We necessarily need the periodic boundary conditions. We propose a mechanism for the jump from M fluxons to $$M+1$$ M + 1 in the chain. Graphic abstract

Thermoelectric Sensor Coupled Yagi–Uda Nanoantenna for Infrared Detection

We present an experimental demonstration of a thermoelectric sensor coupled with a nanoantenna as an alternative option for detecting infrared energy. Two nanoantenna design (single element and an array) variations based on Yagi-Uda technology and one separate nano-thermoelectric junction array were fabricated and tested. The nanoantennas were tuned to operate and respond at a center wavelength of 1550 nm (193.5 THz) optical C-band window, but they also exhibited a resonance response when excited by lasers of various wavelengths (650 nm and 940 nm). The radiation-induced electric currents in the nanoantennas, coupled with a nano-thermoelectric sensor, produced a potential difference as per the Seebeck effect. With respect to the uniform thermal measurements of the reference nanoantenna, the experiments confirmed the detection properties of the proposed nanoantennas; the single element detected a peak percentage voltage hike of 28%, whereas the array detected a peak percentage voltage hike of 80% at the center wavelength. Compared to state-of-the-art thermoelectric designs, this was the first time that such peak percentage voltages were experimentally reported following a planar design based on the Seebeck principle.
