The Effects of Natural Dopant Acids on Morphologies and Antibacterial Activity of Polyaniline

Polyaniline(PANI) doped by natural acid(citric acid, salicylic acid or rosin acid)solutions was synthesized using aniline as monomer and ammonium peroxydisulfate ((NH4)2S2O8) as oxidant. The antibacterial activities of the PANI against Gram positive bacteria(Bacillus megatherium, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus and Staphylo-coccus aureus) and Gram negative bacteria(Bacillus coli) were investigated. It was shown that PANI doped by citric acid possessed the better antibacterial activity against the selected species of Gram positive bacteria and Gram negative bacteria than PANI doped by rosin acid. PANI doped by salicylic acid exhibited ascendant antibacterial activities against Gram positive bacteria, but it has little antibacterial activity against the Gram negative bacteria.

Studies on Antimicrobial Activity of Aqueous Extract of Maize Silk

Objective: To study antimicrobial activity of aqueous extract of maize silk. Methods: Choose Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus coli and Candida albicans as detected germs. Using methods of agar plated diffusions and tube continuous dilution to detect antimicrobial activity and minimum inhibitory concentration of aqueous extract of maize silk. Results:(1) Aqueous extract of maize silk has antimicrobial activity against bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis, and the diameter of bacteriostatic circle is 17 and 28 millimeter; Candida albicans is also inhibited by aqueous extract and its diameter of bacteriostatic circle is 24 millimeter.(2)The antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis is 500mg/ml and 62.5mg/ml.The minimum inhibitory concentration to Candida albicans is 125mg/ml.(3) aqueous extract of maize silk has no antimicrobial activity on Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus coli. Conclusion: Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis and Candida albicans can be inhibited by aqueous extract of maize silk.

Influences of Multifunctional Nano-Super (AB) Finishing Agent on the Anti-UV and Dyeing Properties of Cotton Fabric

Nano-super(AB) microcrystalline dispersoid self-prepared is the main raw material. The cotton is given an excellent and lasting anti-UV and anti-bacterial function through the dipping-padding-baking treating process. The SEM observation indicates that the surface of finished cotton fabrics take on small and uniform nano-particle with size of 10nm. XRD analysis shows that nano-particle on the surface of cotton is standard wurtzite zinc oxide. The treated cotton fabrics reveal excellent anti-UV property and the rating of ultraviolet protection factor(UPF) attains 50+ when the concentration of nano-super（AB）is 16g/L. The antibacterial rate reaches more than 99% for Staphylococcus and Bacillus coli. In addition, the dyed cotton fabrics which were finished by Nano-super(AB) microcrystalline dispersoid reveal excellent anti-UV property, and have good wash fastness and light fastness.

Escherichia coli – an overview

The isolation and description of Bacillus coli commune by Escherich a hundred years ago marked the start of a series of scientific investigations which have led to some of the most important discoveries in microbial pathogenicity and genetics that have been made since that time. It is not difficult to find the reasons why so much effort has been concentrated on this organism. Escherichia coli is present in the gut of all warm-blooded animals generally forming the predominant aerobic flora; it is of medical and veterinary importance being responsible for a variety of infections in the human and animal populations and it has provided a useful tool for geneticists.
