Increasing amounts of disposable food packaging waste are contributing towards a global environmental crisis, and approaches to successfully preventing such waste—called precycling—are urgently needed. The human ability to define oneself as a member of a group (social identity) may represent a powerful source for realizing environmental endeavors. Therefore, in this article we conceptualize precycling behavior in households as pro-environmental behavior embedded in social identity processes. To explore precycling, we combined food diaries and qualitative virtual interviews with 26 households in Berlin, Germany. We analyzed our data based on the Social Identity Model of Pro-Environmental Action (SIMPEA). Starting from the behavioral element of the model (response), we substantiate the concept of precycling suggesting that it can be distinguished into six types of behavior. Furthermore, we propose that the enactment of these precycling behaviors is shaped by social identity processes and social influence in different groups, including: the household itself, neighbors, family and friends, or food collectives. We conclude that these processes are important to realizing precycling in small and private groups as well as in larger collectives. Implications are derived for empirical research and theoretical development as well as for public programs and intervention studies.

The aim of the paper is to show the influence of cultural intelligence in the acceptance of foreign brands and how these insights can help multinational companies in shaping and presenting their brands so that they are better accepted in different cultural environments. Cultural intelligence consists of four factors, two of which have been analyzed for the purposes of this paper - the metacognitive and behavioral factors. The metacognitive cultural dimensions are useful for the individual uses to obtain certain knowledge about a culture. Behavioral cultural intelligence represents the ability to adapt an individual to verbal and non-verbal behaviors according to the situation in culturally diverse environments. The results of the empirical research proved a statistically significant positive impact of the behavioral element of cultural intelligence on the acceptance of foreign brands by consumers, while the influence of the metacognitive factor on the acceptance of foreign brands is not statistically significant, which is different from most of the empirical studies conducted so far.

In the course of the last decade the European debate on the concept of citizenship has shown that a definition of this concept in strictly legal and jurisprudence terms is reductive. Indeed a behavioral element is present, which goes beyond the defence and request for defence of rights and duties, but actually stresses the importance of acting within a community (or within several communities). A citizenship belonging to a given space/time context which, to be authentic, requires know-how and know-how-to-be that can be gained in different training opportunities (formal, informal etc.) with various active learning methodologies and through experience. The SEDEC project aims to investigate which teaching methodologies and activities specifically developed for the teaching of sciences can be applied in other learning contexts, in order to sustain actions for developing an active citizenship.
