Vertical Wedge Water-Entry through Experiments and Simulation to Explore Three-Dimensional Hydrodynamic Flow Characteristic

Slamming is a critical loading condition that governs design of high-speed small craft. Due to sparse pressure measurements in previously conducted experimental studies and uncertainties in numerical simulations, a combined study to fully understand the three-dimensional fluid-dynamics effects on the bottom of a wedge is presented herein. The focus of this paper is on a comparison of experiments and simulations on the water-entry of a rigid wedge that represents a transverse wedge cross section of a Generic Prismatic Planing Hull (GPPH). The results show that the simulations are in very good agreement with the experiments and that these 3D effects can accurately be modeled.

Exploration of the Curative Effect of Early Enteral Nutrition Nursing on Patients with Severe Acute Pancreatitis and the Improvement of Patients’ Mental Health and Inflammation Level

In order to explore the curative effect of early enteral nutrition nursing on patients with severe acute pancreatitis and the improvement of patients’ mental health and inflammation levels, this paper compares the curative effect of early enteral nutrition nursing and traditional care on patients with severe acute pancreatitis and the improvement effects of patients’ mental health and inflammation levels through controlled trials. Moreover, this paper combines statistical methods for data processing and visually expresses data through statistical graphs and statistical tables. Through the comparison of experiments, it can be seen that the improvement effect in all aspects of patients in the test group is significantly higher than that in the control group. Finally, through the analysis of the test results, it can be known that the use of early enteral nutrition nursing for patients with acute severe acute pancreatitis has a certain effect in improving their nutritional status, regulating immune function, and promoting mental health.

Ignition Vulnerabilities of Combustibles around Houses to Firebrand Showers: Further Comparison of Experiments

Wildland fires and wildland urban-interface (WUI) fires have become a significant problem in recent years. The mechanisms of home ignition in WUI fires are direct flame contact, thermal radiation, and firebrand attack. Out of these three fire spread factors, firebrands are considered to be a main driving force for rapid fire spread as firebrands can fly far from the fire front and ignite structures. The limited experimental data on firebrand showers limits the ability to design the next generation of communities to resist WUI fires to these types of exposures. The objective of this paper is to summarize, compare, and reconsider the results from previous experiments, to provide new data and insights to prevent home losses from firebrands in WUI fires. Comparison of different combustible materials around homes revealed that wood decking assemblies may be ignited within similar time to mulch under certain conditions.

Kinematic accuracy of picking robot constructed by wire-driven continuum structure

This paper is to explore the motion accuracy of a novel picking robot constructed by wire-driven continuum structure and liner screw platform. The continuum structure features the hollow configuration, by which the object could be transported along its internal space, such as fruits harvesting. For discussing the precision theoretically and driving the presented robot, the kinematic model and workspace were established, also the instantaneous kinematics based on Jacobian matrix was analyzed. Further, the motion precision with different postures in the workspace were analyzed based on dexterity index by decomposing Jacobian matrix. Finally, as a typical tracking, the circular trajectory are deployed for demonstrating the theoretical modelling through the simulations and experiments in different region of workspace. The results of comparison of experiments and planned trajectories showed that the average error of the end point is about 2.538% with the proposed method by adjust the position of robot into a higher precise region, while without adjusting the robot's position, the average error of the end point reached 4.537%. The proposed method could be extended to a control strategy for rigid-flexible coupled robot.

An Analytical Research on Stress-Wave Propagation and Comparison of Experiments and Theory of Zonal Disintegration in Rock Masses around Deep Tunnels

The zonal disintegration mechanism in rock masses around deep tunnels is totally controversial. Because this phenomenon basically depends on the stress-wave amplitude, fluctuating and declining in rock masses particularly around deep tunnels. This paper intends to theoretically solve the problem of stress-wave propagation. For this purpose, a physical model of stress-wave propagation is established in rock masses around the deep tunnels. Further, the wave equation is solved for rock masses of deep tunnels. Taking Dingji Tunnel in southern of China as a case-study, the central radius of partition is calculated theoretically and compared with the measured results in rock masses around deep tunnels. The research results of this paper gives a certain promotes to the theory of zonal disintegration in rock masses and have certain guiding significance for deep rock engineering.

Effects of flanking sequences and cellular context on subcellular behavior and pathology of mutant HTT

Huntington’s disease (HD) is caused by an expansion of a poly glutamine (polyQ) stretch in the huntingtin protein (HTT) that is necessary to cause pathology and formation of HTT aggregates. Here we ask whether expanded polyQ is sufficient to cause pathology and aggregate formation. By addressing the sufficiency question, one can identify cellular processes and structural parameters that influence HD pathology and HTT subcellular behavior (i.e. aggregation state and subcellular location). Using Drosophila, we compare the effects of expressing mutant full-length human HTT (fl-mHTT) to the effects of mutant human HTTexon1 and to two commonly used synthetic fragments, HTT171 and shortstop (HTT118). Expanded polyQ alone is not sufficient to cause inclusion formation since full-length HTT and HTTex1 with expanded polyQ are both toxic although full-length HTT remains diffuse while HTTex1 forms inclusions. Further, inclusions are not sufficient to cause pathology since HTT171-120Q forms inclusions but is benign and co-expression of HTT171-120Q with non-aggregating pathogenic fl-mHTT recruits fl-mHTT to aggregates and rescues its pathogenicity. Additionally, the influence of sequences outside the expanded polyQ domain is revealed by finding that small modifications to the HTT118 or HTT171 fragments can dramatically alter their subcellular behavior and pathogenicity. Finally, mutant HTT subcellular behavior is strongly modified by different cell and tissue environments (e.g. fl-mHTT appears as diffuse nuclear in one tissue and diffuse cytoplasmic in another but toxic in both). These observations underscore the importance of cellular and structural context for the interpretation and comparison of experiments using different fragments and tissues to report the effects of expanded polyQ.
