During braking process, the kinetic energy of vehicle reduces and gets converted in thermal energy due to friction between disk and brake pads. The disk brake is used to retard the motion of vehicle by pressing brake pads against disk rotors. The frequent braking or panic braking results in overheating of brake disks which may result in brake fade. It is therefore essential to test newer materials which are more effective and possess better heat transfer characteristics than conventional cast iron material. The current research investigates the application of Al MMC material for ATV disk brake using experimental and numerical techniques. The numerical analysis is conducted on both conventional cast iron and Al MMC disk brake under steady state conditions and dynamic conditions. The dynamic condition testing involved testing of disk brake with externally flowing air at 2.5m/s and 5m/s using techniques of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The CAD model of ATV disk brake is developed in Creo design software and CFD analysis is conducted using ANSYS CFX. The turbulence model used for analysis is RNG k-epsilon. The temperature and heat flux are determined for disk brake under steady state and dynamic conditions. The results have shown that disk brake made from Al MMC possess better heat transfer characteristics as compared to conventional cast iron and cooling time also reduces with increase in external air speed.

The disc brakes are vital components of vehicle for retarding its velocity. The proper design of disk brake is essential in dissipating heat from rubbing surface. The objective of current research is to investigate the thermal characteristics of cast iron disk brake under transient conditions. The designing and FE simulation of brake is conducted using ANSYS software. The existing design is then optimized to determine effect of each optimization variable and also to determine specific design points. The disc brake optimization results have provided significant information on design points at which heat dissipation and temperature is maximum or minimum and the effect of variable on heat flux is also established.

This paper is aimed to calculate and numerically analyse the effectiveness of Disc brakes before and after manufacturing of full scale Go-kart. Disc brakes are developed over time to time for being a reliable method of decelerating and stopping a vehicle. There are different designs of disk brake systems for various applications. This review gives an in depth description of various geometries of the components and therefore the materials utilized in a disk brake system. In spite of all the involvements, there are still many operational issues associated with disc brakes that need to be understand during operations and resolved. There has been tons of research happening about these issues and at an equivalent time different methods are being proposed to eliminate or reduce them. One major purpose of this paper is to provide a comprehensive overview of all such developments.

This paper is presented on Design and Thermal analysis of disc brake rotor of different materials, which analyze about on disc brake rotor by analysis of different shapes of slot of different vehicles Disc brake rotor. Therefore, it can optimize number of shapes of slot to estimate the good thermal conductivity of the disc brake rotor. CATIA V5R21 and ANSYS 19R1 software’s are using for Modeling, Static and Transient Thermal Analysis. Heat generated is dissipated faster or the disc material gets less heated. Here is consideration of a metal multiple materials which will satisfy above criteria. An analysis of composite and SS disc brakes over a repeated braking is done and the results are analyzed.
