The protective properties of enameled products are largely determined by the structure of the vitreous coating itself, and, in general, the formed composite steel – coating. The grade and chemical composition of the enameled steel influence not only the physical and chemical processes occurring in the contact zone "steel-enamel", but also, in general, the structure of the coating and its technical and operational properties.

This textbook is based on many years of practice, research and teaching work of the author in the field of decorative ceramic glazes. It is an original intersection of theory and artistic approach. It is a kind of manual, fully adapted to the needs of ceramists and designers of ceramic products. The theory of vitreous coating and the practice of creating decorative glazes is brought together. Both the basic properties of glaze melt and the variety of raw materials used in modern practice are presented as well as useful guidelines for the right choice of material and the technological process. Аn Information about the regimes of thermal treatment is also provided. The testing methods used in glaze production technology are included as well. Thanks to its scientific and practical orientation, the textbook can be used as a comprehensive methodological guide in the process of obtaining new glazing coatings or modifying existing ones. It is аdressed to students who are trained in the specialties “Design of Porcelain and Glass” and “Ceramics” at the National Academy of Art, as well as for all who are interested in the technology of vitreous silicate coatings.

In this study, a non-commercial ceramic compound with high corrosion resistance based on Na2O, Al2O3, SiO2, K2O, CaO, TiO2, FeO and others, was developed and stabilized in an aqueous media. The enamel coatings were developed over stainless steel 316L at 7.5 V and 30, 60 and 90 secounds by electrophoretic deposition technique (EPE coatings). EPE coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) techniques showing a compact and homogeneous enamel surface and a typical composition of the glass frit deposited. Surface micro hardness measurements of EPE coatings were 7.6 times harder than the steel base material using an automatic hardness tester equipped. As well as, surface roughness measurements of EPE coatings were 19 times and 15 times less rugged than the steel base material at about Raand Rz, respectively using a confocal microscope. EPE coatings at 60 s and 90 s show a better behavior for reducing the corrosion process, evaluated using potentiodynamic polarization method in 3.5 wt. % NaCl solution.
