AbstractElectrical manipulation of magnetization could be an essential function for energy-efficient spintronics technology. A magnetic topological insulator, possessing a magnetically gapped surface state with spin-polarized electrons, not only exhibits exotic topological phases relevant to the quantum anomalous Hall state but also enables the electrical control of its magnetic state at the surface. Here, we demonstrate efficient current-induced switching of the surface ferromagnetism in hetero-bilayers consisting of the topological insulator (Bi1-xSbx)2Te3 and the ferromagnetic insulator Cr2Ge2Te6, where the proximity-induced ferromagnetic surface states play two roles: efficient charge-to-spin current conversion and emergence of large anomalous Hall effect. The sign reversal of the surface ferromagnetic states with current injection is clearly observed, accompanying the nearly full magnetization reversal in the adjacent insulating Cr2Ge2Te6 layer of an optimal thickness range. The present results may facilitate an electrical control of dissipationless topological-current circuits.

Abstract The Two Higgs Doublet Model predicts the emergence of 3 distinct domain wall solutions arising from the breaking of 3 accidental global symmetries, Z2, CP1 and CP2, at the electroweak scale for specific choices of the model parameters. We present numerical kink solutions to the field equations in all three cases along with dynamical simulations of the models in (2+1) and (3+1) dimensions. For each kink solution we define an associated topological current. In all three cases simulations produce a network of domain walls which deviates from power law scaling in Minkowski and FRW simulations. This deviation is attributed to a winding of the electroweak group parameters around the domain walls in our simulations. We observe a local violation of the neutral vacuum condition on the domain walls in our simulations. This violation is attributed to relative electroweak transformations across the domain walls which is a general feature emerging from random initial conditions.

The valley degree of freedom of electrons in two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides has been extensively studied by theory (1–4), optical (5–9), and optoelectronic (10–13) experiments. However, generation and detection of pure valley current without relying on optical selection have not yet been demonstrated in these materials. Here, we report that valley current can be electrically induced and detected through the valley Hall effect and inverse valley Hall effect, respectively, in monolayer molybdenum disulfide. We compare temperature and channel length dependence of nonlocal electrical signals in monolayer and multilayer samples to distinguish the valley Hall effect from classical ohmic contributions. Notably, valley transport is observed over a distance of 4 μm in monolayer samples at room temperature. Our findings will enable a new generation of electronic devices using the valley degree of freedom, which can be used for future novel valleytronic applications.

By making use of theφ-mapping topological current theory and the decomposition of gauge potential theory, we investigate the skyrmion excitations of (2+1)-dimensional graphene. It is shown that the topological numbers are Hopf indices and Brower degrees. Based on the bifurcation theory of theφ-mapping theory, it is founded that the skyrmions can be generated or annihilated at the limit point (the generation and annihilation of skyrmion-antiskyrmion pairs).
