Upper Limb Action Identification Based on Physiological Signals and Its Application in Limb Rehabilitation Training

pper limb motor dysfunction brings huge pain and burden to patients with brain trauma, stroke, and cerebral palsy, as well as their relatives. Physiological signals are closely related to the recovery of patients with limb dysfunction. The joint analysis of two key physiological signals, namely, surface electromyographic (sEMG) signal and acceleration signal, enables the scientific and effective evaluation of upper limb rehabilitation. However, the existing indices of upper limb rehabilitation are incomplete, and the current evaluation approaches are not sufficiently objective or quantifiable. To solve the problems, this paper explores upper limb action identification based on physiological signals, and tries to apply the approach to limb rehabilitation training. Specifically, the upper limb action features during limb rehabilitation training were extracted and identified by time-domain feature method, frequency-domain feature method, time-frequency domain feature method, and entropy feature method. Then, the evaluation flow of upper limb rehabilitation, plus the relevant evaluation indices, were given. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed composite feature identification of upper limb actions, and the proposed evaluation method for limb rehabilitation.

They can’t treat you well under abusive supervision: Investigating the impact of job satisfaction and extrinsic motivation on healthcare employees

Building on the emerging research that has demonstrated the adverse effects of abusive supervision on employee performance, this research draws on the theories of prosocial motivation and action identification. We develop and empirically test a mediation model to examine the indirect impact of abusive supervision on employee performance. Data were obtained from 430 Chinese healthcare employees to validate and test our proposed hypotheses and generalize the findings from Western settings in the Eastern context. The findings indicate that abusive supervision is negatively related to employee performance. Job satisfaction and extrinsic motivation mediated this relationship. The study has some important theoretical and practical implications, and we have also discussed some future directions.

To the question of transformation of literary texts into stage version (“Three Years” of A. P. Chekhov in theatrical interpretation of S. V. Zhenovach)

This article is dedicated to the question of text transformation from authorial intent to stage impersonation. Despite the established tradition of studying the questions of recoding of literary text into theatrical, there is yet no theoretical-literary substantiation. Recoding is considered a complex process of creating a new type of text by the theatre director for staging a play. Therefore, an attempt is made to analyze the elements of transformation of literary text into its stage version, using the example of S. V. Zhenovach’s unpublished manuscript for stage direction based on A. P. Chekhov’s novella “Three Years”. The novelty of this research consists in determination of the patterns in transformation of literary text into stage version. The tools and means of expression applied in theatre and literature are different. If in literature it is possible to set several task and solve them all within the framework of the novel, then in theatre, it must be one ultimate task that organizes the action. Identification of the key peculiarities of existence of such type of text as “stage direction” on the example of transformation of the novella “The Years” from the authorial intent to stage impersonation demonstrated its significance for not only theatre studies, but also the theory of literature.

MIAMI––a tool for non-targeted detection of metabolic flux changes for mode of action identification

Summary Mass isotopolome analysis for mode of action identification (MIAMI) combines the strengths of targeted and non-targeted approaches to detect metabolic flux changes in gas chromatography/mass spectrometry datasets. Based on stable isotope labeling experiments, MIAMI determines a mass isotopomer distribution-based (MID) similarity network and incorporates the data into metabolic reference networks. By identifying MID variations of all labeled compounds between different conditions, targets of metabolic changes can be detected. Availability and implementation We implemented the data processing in C++17 with Qt5 back-end using MetaboliteDetector and NTFD libraries. The data visualization is implemented as web application. Executable binaries and visualization are freely available for Linux operating systems, the source code is licensed under General Public License version 3.
