Abstract Let R = K[x, σ] be the skew polynomial ring over a field K, where σ is an automorphism of K of finite order. We show that prime elements in R correspond to completely prime one-sided ideals – a notion introduced by Reyes in 2010. This extends the natural correspondence between prime elements and prime ideals in commutative polynomial rings.

Our purpose in this paper is to characterize skew PBW extensions over several weak symmetric rings. As a consequence of our treatment, we extend results in the literature concerning the property of symmetry for commutative rings and skew polynomial rings.

AbstractA skew generalized power series ring {R[[S,\omega,\leq]]} consists of all functions from a strictly ordered monoid {(S,\leq)} to a ring R whose support is artinian and narrow, with pointwise addition, and with multiplication given by convolution twisted by an action ω of the monoid S on the ring R. Special cases of this ring construction are skew polynomial rings, skew Laurent polynomial rings, skew power series rings, skew Laurent series rings, skew monoid rings, skew group rings, skew Mal’cev–Neumann series rings, the “unskewed” versions of all of these, and generalized power series rings. In this paper, we characterize the skew generalized power series rings {R[[S,\omega,\leq]]} that are left (right) Archimedean domains in the case where the order {\leq} is total, or {\leq} is semisubtotal and the monoid S is commutative torsion-free cancellative, or {\leq} is trivial and S is totally orderable. We also answer four open questions posed by Moussavi, Padashnik and Paykan regarding the rings in the title.

For a commutative integral domain [Formula: see text] with field of fractions [Formula: see text], the ring of integer-valued polynomials on [Formula: see text] is [Formula: see text]. In this paper, we extend this construction to skew polynomial rings. Given an automorphism [Formula: see text] of [Formula: see text], the skew polynomial ring [Formula: see text] consists of polynomials with coefficients from [Formula: see text], and with multiplication given by [Formula: see text] for all [Formula: see text]. We define [Formula: see text], which is the set of integer-valued skew polynomials on [Formula: see text]. When [Formula: see text] is not the identity, [Formula: see text] is noncommutative and evaluation behaves differently than it does for ordinary polynomials. Nevertheless, we are able to prove that [Formula: see text] has a ring structure in many cases. We show how to produce elements of [Formula: see text] and investigate its properties regarding localization and Noetherian conditions. Particular attention is paid to the case where [Formula: see text] is a discrete valuation ring with finite residue field.
