Acid-Base Balance and Electrolyte Management

Perhaps the most ubiquitous set of interlinked clinical issues to be addressed in inpatient medicine is fluids, electrolytes, and acid-base balance. Decision making for the first two directly and measurably impacts the latter. Unlike most other critical therapies whose management is tied to a specific skill set and competency, every practitioner is empowered to prescribe and direct fluid and electrolyte management and, secondarily, pH. Downstream consequences in terms of compensation, both pulmonary and renal, may be singularly important for those with preexisting conditions that impact organ function and drive the need for unanticipated monitoring and therapy, including organ support. Therefore, the basics of fluid and electrolyte management are essential to be mastered, as is specific knowledge of the consequences of that prescription to enhance recovery and avoid preventable errors with important sequelae. Accordingly, current different but complementary methods of assessing acid-base balance are presented so that the reader may have a systematic approach to determining pH before intervention as well as after the initiation of fluid and electrolyte therapy. New Algorithm to Handle Routing with Load Balancing in Wireless Networks Using EERNN

In this paper, static wireless network load balance algorithm is proposed, that use only optimal paths from point-to-point to achieve good load balance. This algorithm based on Enhanced version of Elman Recurrent Neural Network (EERNN) to make load balance decision depended on two metrics (traffic load on node and probability of link failure). This algorithm make good work in terms of both metrics simultaneously. Also, this algorithm use only local information. The Roles and Characteristics of Advisory Committees

The advisory committee represents the institution, as the voice of the department, utilizing effective practices and strategies in decision-making. Because workforce education is technical and complex in nature, experienced and knowledgeable industry-based individuals are needed to advise, guide, and make decisions to achieve optimum outcomes. Key individuals have the ability to influence a group to achieve a common goal. The members have established respect and trust among the stakeholders, and are better prepared to handle the leadership roles and achieve results for the committee. The committee focuses on equal representation and balance; decision-making process; and acting as the voice of the project. This chapter focuses on the role of advisory committees. The chapter will also concentrate on the characteristics that comprise an advisory committee, and address identifying the most effective members to include on a committee.

Damaged Ship Anti-Flooding Decision Plan Intelligent Generation System Based on Petri Net and Heuristic Color Genetic Algorithm

No matter in the wartime or in the peace time, the intelligent generation system of damaged ship anti-flooding decision plan is an important tool to guarantee ship survivability and safety. The intelligent decision plan generation system which has high search efficiency plays an important role in recovering the buoyancy and stability indicts of damaged ship. The intelligent decision plan generation system introduced in this paper contains Petri net model and heuristic color genetic algorithm. The Petri net is used to model the ship anti-flooding decision process and the heuristic color genetic algorithm is used to solve intelligent hull balance decision problem. The traditional genetic algorithm is improved according to the special demand of hull balance. Based on the definition of the colored gene and the foundation of the heuristic search rules, the heuristic color genetic algorithm is given to improve the traditional genetic algorithm search efficiency.

Two Pilot Studies of the Effect of Bicycling on Balance and Leg Strength among Older Adults

Objectives. Study 1 examines whether age-related declines in balance are moderated by bicycling. Study 2 tests whether regular cycling can increase leg strength and improve balance.Methods.Study 1: a cross-sectional survey of 43 adults aged 44–79 was conducted. Leg strength was measured, and Balance was measured using the choice stepping reaction time (CSRT) test (decision time and response time), leg strength and timed single leg standing.Study 2: 18 older adults aged 49–72 were recruited into a 12-week cycling program. The same pre- and postmeasures as used in Study 1 were collected.Results.Study 1: participants who had cycled in the last month performed significantly better on measures of decision time and response time.Study 2: cycling at least one hour a week was associated with significant improvements in balance (decision time and response time) and timed single leg standing.Conclusions. Cycling by healthy older adults appears promising for improving risk factors for falls.
