Abstract In this paper, we discuss the monotonicity of the first nonzero eigenvalue of the Laplace operator and the p-Laplace operator under a forced mean curvature flow (MCF). By imposing conditions associated with the mean curvature of the initial hypersurface and the coefficient function of the forcing term of a forced MCF, and some special pinching conditions on the second fundamental form of the initial hypersurface, we prove that the first nonzero closed eigenvalues of the Laplace operator and the p-Laplace operator are monotonic under the forced MCF, respectively, which partially generalize Mao and Zhao’s work. Moreover, we give an example to specify applications of conclusions obtained above.

AbstractIn this paper, we study the evolution of the Weyl curvature tensor W of hypersurfaces in 𝕉n+1 under the mean curvature flow. We find a bound for the Weyl curvature tensor of hypersurfaces during the evolution in terms of time. As a consequence, we suppose that the initial hypersurface is conformally flat, i.e., W =0 at t = 0 and then we find an upper estimate for W during the evolution in terms of time.

Abstract We study a curvature flow on smooth, closed, strictly convex hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{R}^n$, which commutes with the action of $SL(n)$. The flow shrinks the initial hypersurface to a point that, if rescaled to enclose a domain of constant volume, is a smooth, closed, strictly convex hypersurface in $\mathbb{R}^n$ with centro-affine curvature proportional, but not always equal, to the centro-affine curvature of a fixed hypersurface. We outline some consequences of this result for the geometry of convex bodies and the logarithmic Minkowski inequality.

Abstract We study the phenomenon of Type-II curvature blow-up in mean curvature flows of rotationally symmetric noncompact embedded hypersurfaces. Using analytic techniques based on formal matched asymptotics and the construction of upper and lower barrier solutions enveloping formal solutions with prescribed behavior, we show that for each initial hypersurface considered, a mean curvature flow solution exhibits the following behavior near the “vanishing” time T: (1) The highest curvature concentrates at the tip of the hypersurface (an umbilic point), and for each choice of the parameter {\gamma>\frac{1}{2}} , there is a solution with the highest curvature blowing up at the rate {(T-t)^{{-(\gamma+\frac{1}{2})}}} . (2) In a neighborhood of the tip, the solution converges to a translating soliton which is a higher-dimensional analogue of the “Grim Reaper” solution for the curve-shortening flow. (3) Away from the tip, the flow surface approaches a collapsing cylinder at a characteristic rate dependent on the parameter γ.

We consider the problem of deforming a one-parameter family of hypersurfaces immersed into closed Riemannian manifolds with positive curvature operator. The hypersurface in this family satisfies mean curvature flow while the ambient metric satisfying the normalized Ricci flow. We prove that if the initial background manifold is an approximation of a spherical space form and the initial hypersurface also satisfies a suitable pinching condition, then either the hypersurfaces shrink to a round point in finite time or converge to a totally geodesic sphere as the time tends to infinity.

We present an axially symmetric, asymptotically flat empty space solution of the Einstein field equations containing a naked singularity. The space-time is regular everywhere except on the symmetry axis where it possesses a true curvature singularity. The space-time is of type D in the Petrov classification scheme and is locally isometric to the metrics of case IV in the Kinnersley classification of type D vacuum metrics. Additionally, the space-time also shows the evolution of closed timelike curves (CTCs) from an initial hypersurface free from CTCs.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the convergence of the volume-preserving mean curvature flow of closed hypersurfaces in space forms. Assume that the initial hypersurface satisfies suitable integral curvature pinching conditions. We prove that along the volume-preserving mean curvature flow the initial hypersurface will be deformed to a totally umbilical sphere.
