The objective of research work was to development and evaluation of curcumin-loaded mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN), based topical dosage form for the treatment of facial wrinkles. Curcumin was selected as a hydrophobic model drug since it has been reported as potent anti-oxidizing and as an anti-wrinkle agent. Hence curcumin drug was selected as anti-wrinkle agent for the treatment of wrinkles. The MSN were prepared with tetraethyl ortho silicate and cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (as surfactant). The prepared MSN were characterized by using particle size analysis, scanning electron microscope, Xrd, FTIR and porosimetry. The MSN was found to be biocompatible chemically & thermally stable nanoparticles. The curcumin extract was loaded into MSN and incorporated into cream. In-vitro release study of curcumin-loaded MSN system was compared with marketed formulation and was found the curcumin-loaded mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) showed good antioxidant activity and batter % cumulative drug release. The % cumulative drug release of curcumin-loaded MSN was found to be 88% at pH 5.5 and 85% at pH 7.4 respectively. Revealed that after incorporation of curcumin into MSN, the drug release rate was found increased. The properties of curcumin-loaded MSN strongly advocate its good feature for delivery of anti-wrinkles drug. The prepared curcumin-loaded MSN seem to have potential carrier for use as a topical drug delivery.

Background: Botulinum toxin has been utilized for the treatment of facial rhytids since 2002. Since development, the indications for botulinum toxin have expanded greatly. Typically utilized in older generations for the treatment of rhytids, younger generations may be pursuing botulinum toxin injections for prevention rather than solely treatment of rhytids at a younger age. Methods: A 26-question survey was designed on Qualtrics and distributed to people through Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk) system. The Data was extracted from the Qualtrics website and processed with Microsoft Excel. Results: Out of 516 completed surveys, 92% of respondents were familiar with botulinum toxin injections with 21% having received botulinum toxin injections and 18% have received injections for cosmetic indications. Of those who have received botulinum toxin injections, 45% utilized injections for the treatment of wrinkles, 37% for the prevention of wrinkles, and 18% for the management of a non-cosmetic indication. When all respondents were asked the purpose of botulinum toxin injections, 11% thought they were for the prevention of wrinkles, 25% believed they were for the treatment of wrinkles, while 63% believe they are for both the prevention and treatment of wrinkles. Conclusions: Younger patients are pursuing botulinum toxin injections at an earlier initial age than their older counterparts. Significantly more people believe that these injections are intended for the prevention and treatment of facial rhytids rather than treatment alone. Plastic surgeons must be aware of the shifting landscape in order to adequately access this increasing patient population.

Botulinum toxin is one of the most potent bacterial toxins, with recognized therapeutic action in the aesthetic treatment of facial rhythms. However, due to the fact that the treatment is of individual effect, taking into account personal characteristics, in particular, of the male sex, the correct diagnosis is necessary to indicate the best technique and dose, in order to provide an adequate treatment to these patients. The present work consists of a literature review, addressing diagnosis, planning and treatment of wrinkles in males, with a clinical case report. A 65-year-old patient with a major complaint of dynamic and static facial rhythms in the frontal, glabellar and periorbital regions. Application of botulinum toxin in the upper and middle third of the face. The treatment with botulinum toxin aims to provide the patient with a result of facial armony, improvement of aesthetics and self-esteem, leaving the face with a lighter and younger appearance, preventing and softening future wrinkles in the region.
