The article presents the experience of using simulation modeling to optimize inpatient emergency department as an admission unit of a hospital — Center for treatment of patients with new coronavirus infection COVID-19. It was noted that the inpatient emergency department effectively performed the functions of the inpatient department of the Center for treatment of patients with new COVID-19 coronavirus infection for a total of more than 7 months. A correct calculation of staffing and a competent use of the department “zones” ensured efficient and rapid reception of patients during both “waves” of the pandemic. The model also proved positive role of such departments with a large number of patients in a multimillion metropolis needed to be hospitalized on a daily basis.

Abstract The article discusses the reasons of fatigue failure of pistons of high-loaded diesel engines. A deformation-kinetic criterion is proposed, generalized to non-isothermal loading, which allows more correct calculation of the number of thermal loading cycles before the appearance of fatigue damage. For a specific implementation of the proposed criterion, a calculated assessment of the piston stress-strain rate was carried out using the FEM. The boundary conditions for the calculation were obtained by thermometry of the piston head on a non-motorized thermal stand (TS). Comparison of the calculated and experimental values of the number of thermal cycles before the appearance of cracks on the edge of the combustion chamber (CC) of pistons made by casting and isothermal stamping is given.

We calculate the nonzero-temperature correction to the beta equilibrium condition in nuclear matter under neutron star merger conditions, in the temperature range 1MeV<T≲5MeV. We improve on previous work using a consistent description of nuclear matter based on the IUF and SFHo relativistic mean field models. This includes using relativistic dispersion relations for the nucleons, which we show is essential in these models. We find that the nonzero-temperature correction can be of order 10 to 20 MeV, and plays an important role in the correct calculation of Urca rates, which can be wrong by factors of 10 or more if it is neglected.

In customs practice, there are various situations that lead to additional customs payments, as well as the formation of debts and the collection of penalties. If there are questions about the correct calculation of customs payments at the declaration stage, one of the ways to quickly release goods without placing them in a temporary storage warehouse is to provide security for the fulfillment of the obligation to pay customs duties and taxes. The purpose of the scientific work is to consider some practical aspects of the use of monetary collateral. Based on the results of the analysis of judicial practice, it can be concluded that the issue of calculating penalties for the formation of debts identified by customs authorities both during the declaration process and after the release of goods in accordance with the declared customs procedure remains relevant.

Local anesthetics systemic toxicity can lead to life-threatening situations. Correct calculation of the maximum safe dose is therefore paramount in preventing such complications. Different solutions have already emerged to support anesthesiologists but are seldom used in clinical practice as they require either access to a computer or specific documents to be at hand. A mobile app could provide an easy and practical solution; however, the few apps already created for this purpose often lack key elements, allowing invalid data to be entered and suggesting doses that might exceed the maximum safe dose. We describe the development of LoAD Calc, a mobile health (mHealth) app developed using a modified version of the Information Systems Research framework, which adds design thinking modes to the original framework. The app was enhanced through multiple iterations and developed with the aid of contextual observations and interviews, brainswarming sessions, prototyping, and continuous feedback. The design process led to the creation of two prototypes which underwent thorough testing by a sample of eight anesthesiologists. The final version of the app, LoAD Calc, was deployed on Apple and Android mobile test platforms and tested again by the same sample until deemed fit for release.

On the basis of the certain form of write of an impulse equation the modeling of the solitary waves in the water channel is examined at action of gravitation forces. It is shown that as against an existing method of modelling where the waves propagating from left to right turn out from the equation of an impulse, and from right to left from the continuity equation in the offered technique both waves turn out from the equation of impulse. It is marked that the given method is physically more correct. Calculation of a solitary wave, its velocity and geometrical characteristics is submitted.

Delivery of perishable freights in proper quality essentially depends on the correct choice of a special vehicle and the correct calculation of the delivery time. According to the requirements of the Rules for the transportation of perishable freights by rail, all special vehicles by January 1, 2022 must obtain certificates of compliance with the standards established by the Agreement on the International Transportation of Perishable Foodstuffs and on special vehicles intended for these transports. This requirement applies to special vehicles used both in international traffic and for transport of perishable freights within the country. The article presents a brief classification of special vehicles used for the transportation of perishable freights. Formulas are given that allow calculating duration of transportation of such freights and average temperature of the outside air along the entire route. Procedure for choosing a special vehicle for the already known duration of freight transportation has been developed. It is concluded that the procedure proposed by the authors allows choosing the optimal special vehicle for the transportation of perishable freights. Using this sequence of calculations makes it possible to take into account the maximum number of external factors that affect the duration of transportation.

The use of three-dimensional (3D) printing technologies is an ever-growing solution. The product realized in many cases is applicable not only for visual aid, or model, but for tool, or operating element, or as an implant for medical use. For correct calculation, a proper model that is based on the theory of elasticity is necessary. The basis of this kind of model is the knowledge of the exact material properties. The PLA filament has been used to perform this study for matrix material. Our presumption is that the different layers do not fuse completely, and they do not fill up the space available. The failures between the layers and the deposited filaments and the layer arrangement could be the reason for the direction-dependent material properties of the 3D printed objects. Based on our investigation, we can conclude that the increase of the layer thickness and printing speed adversely affect the mechanical properties of the product.
