The use of the temperature criterion in the design of metal-cutting machines, determined on the basis of models that take into account the contact thermal resistances, is an objective necessity. These models should take into account to the maximum extent the actual conditions of contact of parts in the design under consideration, determined by the deviations of the mating surfaces from the ideal shape. The article presents the results of numerical modeling based on the finite element method of the formation of the contact thermal resistance and the evaluation of the influence of the parameters of the intermediate layer (pseudo-environment) that occurs in the contact zone of surfaces with macro-deviations on the passage of the heat flow. The obtained results allowed us to identify the most significant of the considered parameters. It is established that when modeling a pseudo-environment, it is necessary to take into account the coefficient of its thermal conductivity, the size, location and integrity of the actual contact zone.

AbstractMicrostructural evolution and compressive properties of two-phase Nb-Fe binary alloys based on the C14 Laves phase NbFe2 were characterized at both the hypo- and hypereutectic compositions. The experimental results indicated that the microstructures of the two alloys consisted of fully eutectics containing Fe and NbFe2 phases at the bottom of the ingots corresponding to the largest solidification rates. With the decrease of solidification rate, the microstructures developed into primary Fe (NbFe2) dendrites plus eutectics in the middle and top parts of the ingots. The microstructural evolutions along the axis of the ingots were analyzed by considering the competitive growth between the primary phase and eutectic as well as using microstructure selection models based on the maximum interface temperature criterion. Furthermore, the compressive properties of the two alloys were measured and the enhancements were explained in terms of the second Fe phase and halo toughening mechanisms.

AbstractThe issue of design and dimensioning of HCR gearing, particularly of the gearings with an internal engagement, it nowadays, especially in the design of hybrid cars drives, highly topical. This kind of gearing has many advantages in operation, but at the same time it is more complicated in stage of its design and load capacity calculation. Authors in this contribution present some results of temperature scuffing research of internal and external HCR gearing. There are given the equations for calculation of warm scuffing resistance of both external and internal HCR gearing derived according to the integral temperature criterion.
