MINDFLOW BASED DENSE MATCHING BETWEEN TIR AND RGB IMAGES

Image registration is a fundamental issue in photogrammetry and remote sensing, which targets to find the alignment between different images. Recently, registration of images from difference sensors become the hot topic. The registered images from different sensors are able to offer additional information, which help with different tasks like segmentation, classification, and even emergency analysis. In this paper, we proposed a registration strategy to calculate the dominant orientation difference and then achieve the dense alignment of Thermal Infrared (TIR) image and RGB image with MINDflow. Firstly, the orientation difference of TIR images and RGB images is calculated by finding the dominant image orientations based on phase congruency. Then, the modality independent neighborhood descriptor (MIND) together with global optical flow algorithm are adopted as MINDflow for dense matching. Our method is tested in the image sets containing TIR images and RGB images captured separately but in the same construction site areas. The results show that it is able to achieve the optimal results with features of significance even for dramatically radiometric differences between TIR images and RGB images. By comparing the results with other descriptor, our method is more robust and keep the features of objects in the images.

The Association between Sexual Orientation and Sleep Problems: Are there Racial and Ethnic Differences?

Using the 2013–2017 National Health Interview Survey, this study examined whether there were significant sexual orientation differences in sleep problems in specific racial and ethnic populations. The analysis had a large sample size and enough statistical power to evaluate any sexual orientation differences or non-differences in sleep problems in Latinx, non-Latinx Black, non-Latinx Asian and Pacific Islander, and non-Latinx White populations. Consistent with recent studies on sexual orientation and sleep problems, this analysis revealed that, for most racial and ethnic groups, there was no significant sexual orientation difference in non-normal sleep duration. Sexual minority adults were significantly more likely to report not feeling rested, trouble falling asleep, trouble staying asleep, and taking medications for sleep than heterosexual adults. There were two notable exceptions in the findings. The first exception was that Latinx sexual minority adults were significantly more likely to report non-normal sleep duration when compared with Latinx heterosexual adults. The second exception was that there was no significant sexual orientation difference in not feeling rested among Asian and Pacific Islander adults.

A fast template matching algorithm based on principal orientation difference

In the case that the background scene is dense map regularization complex and the detected objects are low texture, the method of matching according to the feature points is not applicable. Usually, the template matching method is used. When training samples are insufficient, the template matching method gets a worse detection result. In order to resolve the problem stably in real time, we propose a fast template matching algorithm based on the principal orientation difference feature. The algorithm firstly obtains the edge direction information by comparing the images that are binary. Then, the template area is divided where the different features are extracted. Finally, the matching positions are searched around the template. Experiments on the videos whose speed is 30 frames/s show that our algorithm detects the low-texture objects in real time with a matching rate of 95%. Compared with other state-of-art methods, our proposed method reduces the training samples significantly and is more robust to the illumination changes.

Examining the Fidelity of On-the-Fly Assembly Inspection With a Low-Cost RGB-D Camera

This paper examines the fidelity of a commodity range camera for assembly inspection in use cases such as augmented reality-based assembly assistance. The objective of inspection is to determine whether a part is present and correctly aligned. In our scenario, shortly after the mechanics assembled the part, which is denoted as on-the-fly inspection. Our approach is based on object tracking and a subsequent discrepancy analysis. Object tracking determines the presence, position, and orientation of parts. The discrepancy analysis facilitates to determine whether the parts are correctly aligned. In comparison to a naive position and orientation difference approach, the discrepancy analysis incorporates the dimensions of parts, which increases the alignment fidelity. To assess this, an experiment was conducted in order to determine the accuracy range. The results indicate a sufficient accuracy for larger parts a noticeable improvement in comparison to the naive approach.

Organizational cross-cultural differences in the context of innovation-oriented partnerships

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to empirically examine organizational cross-culture differences in public-private research-oriented relationships. More precisely, it focusses on the analysis university-industry collaborations partnering for research agreements with the aim of fostering the transfer of knowledge and innovation. It analyzes the key organizational cross-cultural differences that could hinder the successful performance of these agreements from a relationship marketing (RM) perspective. Design/methodology/approach – Based on a comprehensive literature review of organizational culture and RM, a quantitative study was carried out and a structural equation model was proposed and tested. Findings – Cross-cultural organizational differences in private-public sectors are proved to negatively influence relationship performance. Market orientation difference appears as the most significant barrier to relationship performance, followed by time orientation difference and to a lesser extent flexibility difference. Originality/value – By integrating organizational culture and RM literatures, the main contribution of this paper is the cross-cultural analysis of private-public relationships (in this case university-industry relationships) from the perspective of RM. Hence, this research will inform management seeking to develop successful public-private collaborations by enhancing their understanding of cross-cultural factors underlying relationship success and failure.
