Research on the Formulation of Rural Planning from the Perspective of Integration of Agriculture, Culture and Tourism: A Case Study of Guifengshan Village, Macheng City, Hubei Province

With the gradual construction of the land and space planning system and the acceleration of the urban-rural integrated development process, China’s rural land planning and preparation have ushered in substantial innovations, and at the same time, they are also facing huge challenges. Among them, the low utilization rate of rural land and cultural desertification are the crux of the lagging rural development. This paper takes Guifengshan Village in Macheng City, Hubei Province as an example. Through the analysis of the current advantages of the village, the analysis of challenges, and the evaluation of the suitability of land use, this paper proposes to promote the mutual benefit of agriculture, culture and tourism, and promote the revitalization of Guifengshan Village, forming a “agricultural industry + characteristic cultural creation + red ecology”. “Tourism” jointly develops rural planning strategies. It aims to link rural agriculture, tourism and cultural industries closely on the basis of people-oriented and ecological protection, with income generation as the goal of rural revitalization, to achieve the establishment and extension of the industrial chain, and to promote rural revitalization.

Application of BIM and GIS Technology in Urban and Rural Planning

For a long time, geographic information system (GIS) technology has been widely used in urban and rural planning. This paper first analyzes the background of urban and rural planning, introduces the concept of building information (BIM), and puts forward the building information model. Then the application of mobile off-line GIS is studied, and the characteristics of mobile GIS are known. Secondly, the concept of urban-rural integration is put forward, and two functions of urban-rural planning are found: macro-control means and public interest protection. Finally, the application of information technology in urban and rural planning management shows that the disposable income of urban and rural residents increases year by year, and the fastest growth in 2020 is 120 million yuan.

Road Network Evolution in the Urban and Rural United States Since 1900

We examine a key component of human settlements mediating pollution and congestion, as well as economic development: roads and their expansion in cities, towns, and villages. Our analysis of road networks in more than 850 US cities and rural counties since 1900 reveals significant variations in the structure of roads both within cities and across the conterminous US. Despite differences in the evolution of these networks, there are commonalities: newer roads tend to become less grid-like. These results persist across the rural-urban continuum and are therefore not just a product of urban growth. These findings illuminate the need for policies for urban and rural planning including the critical assessment of new development trends.

Bringing Rurality Back to Planning Culture

The vast majority of the world’s land area is rural, yet rurality is routinely marginalized in planning. Urban bias is tacit and under-problematized, so the challenges facing rural areas and the importance of those challenges for society as a whole are not much reflected in planning scholarship or practice. We interrogate the urban bias and its implications for rural planning through the lens of planning cultures, using a content analysis of prominent and recent texts to shed light on the nature and implications of urban bias. Finally, we suggest ways to “bring the rural back” into twenty-first-century planning.

Pursuing Development behind Heterogeneous Ideologies: Review of Six Evolving Themes and Narratives of Rural Planning in China

Rural planning is in a state of flux, covering a range of topics. The objectives of planning have evolved over the years. To get an overview of the evolving themes and narratives on rural planning in China, a literature review is conducted here using text mining considering 145 papers published in Web of Science. Attention is given to trends over time in terms of the topics covered. Six evolving themes are revealed, namely: providing affordable and decent life under industrialization and urbanization progress, national ecological programs and practices, building a new (socialist) countryside and rural−urban relationship in planning, land planning and restructuring, rural tourism planning and activities, and other themes. It is highlighted that strategies and knowledge of “development” are a common instructional epistemology among agro-industrialism, agro-ruralism, scientific rationalism, and “economy oriented” humanism.
