Abstract Analysis of various studies has shown that one of the most promising ways to reduce hydraulic resistance in pipelines during transportation of liquid fluid is a method based on changing the wettability of functional surfaces, i.e. hydrophobization. This paper presents the results of experimental studies of the effect of hydrophobization of pipe surfaces on hydraulic losses. For this purpose, experimental tube samples of steel (20Kh13) were made, on the surface of which a spiral relief was formed using laser equipment, resulting in a hydrophobic state, and the value of the contact angle was 160.7°. From the analysis of the results of experimental studies, the dependence of hydraulic resistance on Reynolds number was obtained, from which it follows that the use of hydrophobic surfaces during water transportation helps to reduce the hydraulic resistance to 9.7%.

The article considers the effect of laser treatment of bearing steel on the change in the elasticity modulus and hardness of the steel SHH15SG. Multi-factor models were obtained that relate the output parameters to the power W of laser radiation, the longitudinal feed Spr of the laser beam and the distance L from the protective glass of the focusing head to the workpiece surface. According to the degree of reduction of the influence on the elastic modulus of steel SHH15SG subjected to laser treatment, these factors are arranged in a sequence: W, Spr, and L. With increasing W and L the modulus of elasticity and hardness of the treated surface layer increase. 3M-XYZ surface-graphs, 3M-XYZ contour-graphs of interactive influence of independent factors on the elastic modulus and hardness of the surface layer are constructed, which simplifies the procedure for assigning the processing mode. The research results are useful for manufacturing and design companies that implement laser technologies and create laser equipment.

Abstract Objectives: to measure the micro-cost of local laser therapy (LL) and transcutaneous laser therapy application by Irradiation Laser Intravascular of Blood (ILIB) to treat nipple trauma and compare the most effective and efficient alternative treatment. Methods: a cross-sectional analytical and quantitative study with analysis on the micro absorption cost, implemented as a clipping, from a randomized clinical trial that used two types of laser therapy to treat nipple trauma due to breastfeeding. The sample consisted of 101 nipple lesions. Patients were randomized into three groups (Control - CG, Local Laser -LLG and ILIB-ILIBG). Materials used, direct labor (DL) and laser equipment were predictors of costs. The delta calculation (effect size) was the indicator for measuring effectiveness and efficiency. Results: after three sessions, the average final cost was R$ 40.04for CG, R$ 53.55for LLG and R$ 67.29for ILIBG. After three sessions of treatment, ILIBG showed a great reduction in the lesion area, but with a higher cost (p<0.05). Conclusions: ILIBG had a better effect on healing the nipple trauma when compared to CG and LLG, even though it is more expensive, it suggests a positive cost-benefit and the most effective and efficient alternative treatment.

There are various anatomical conditions or mucogingival alterations that can affect the normal functioning and the gingival aesthetics of teeth and dental implants. Although the treatments of these conditions have been traditionally performed with a scalpel, technological development has allowed that they can be now performed with lasers. There are different types of lasers, being the diode one of the most used due to its smaller size, portability, easy configuration, and lower cost. The laser has become more popular in soft tissue surgeries due to its multiple benefits: shorter operating time, control of bleeding and hemostasis, reduction in the amount of anesthesia, possibility of not requiring sutures, and minimization of post-surgical pain and inflammation. The purpose of this work is to present the resolution of three clinical cases which underwent labial frenectomy procedures, removal of gingival melanosis and resection of irritative fibroma using diode laser. To develop all the procedures, a 940 nm diode laser equipment (Biolase®, USA) was used with a power that varied between 2 and 2.5 W in continuous mode, using a 300 µm tip (E 3-4), which was activated before starting. After surgery, biostimulation was carried out to reduce postoperative pain and edema using the pain tip at 4 W for 30 seconds at a distance of 1 cm directly in the operated area in all cases. In all cases, the diode laser allowed a successful result. The procedure was safe, the technique was simple, and the clinical time was short. The postoperative period occurred with the absence of pain or discomfort, generating greater patient satisfaction. It should be noted that the technique depends on the skill of the professional who performs it.
