Nutritional, phytochemical and antioxidant properties of 24 mung bean (Vigna radiate L.) genotypes

This study aimed to investigate the proximate and phytochemicals present in seeds of 24 mung bean (Vigna radiate L.) genotypes from four provinces of China for estimating their nutritional and antioxidant properties. Proximate analysis of mung bean genotypes revealed that starch, protein, fat, ash and water-soluble polysaccharide ranged from 39.54–60.66, 17.36–24.89, 4.24–12.18, 2.78–3.53 and 1.99–2.96 g/100 g respectively. The five principal fatty acids detected in mung beans were stearic acid, palmitic acid, linoleic acid, oleic acid, and linolenic acid. The contents of insoluble-bound phenolic compounds, soluble phenolic compounds, and flavonoids ranged from 0.78 to 1.5 mg GAE g− 1, 1.78 to 4.10 mg GAE g− 1, and 1.25 to 3.52 mg RE g− 1, respectively. The black seed coat mung bean genotype M13 (Suheilv 1) exhibited highest flavonoid and phenolic contents which showed strong antioxidant activity. Two flavonoids (vitexin and isovitexin) and four phenolic acids (caffeic, syringic acid, p-coumaric, and ferulic acids) were identified by HPLC. Vitexin and isovitexin were the major phenolic compounds in all mung bean genotypes. The content of soluble phenolic compounds had positive correlation with DPPH (r2 = 0.713) and ABTS (r2 = 0.665) radical scavenging activities. Principal component analysis indicated that the first two principal components could reflect most details on mung bean with a cumulative contribution rate of 66.1%. Twenty-four mung bean genotypes were classified into four groups based on their phenolic compounds contents and antioxidant activities. The present study highlights the importance of these mung bean genotypes as a source of nature antioxidant ingredient for the development of functional foods or a source of health promoting food. Food plants and temperature dependent mortality of Aphis craccivora (Hemiptera: Aphididae)

Aphis craccivora (Hemiptera: Aphididae) is a serious polyphagous pest on several agricultural plants in North East Bihar. Economically important four host plants viz., Phaseolus sinensis, Lablab purpureus, Vigna radiate, and Vigna mungo were used in the experiment. During the experiment, food plant and temperature-dependent mortality was found in A. craccivora. The highest mortality of A. craccivora was recorded on V. mungo (17.54%) followed by V. radiata (11.52%), L. purpureus (6.27%) and P. sinensis (4.18%) during November. Similarly, highest mortality was also recorded on V. mungo when studied during December, January, and February respectively. However, the effect of temperature was also recorded significantly. The highest and lowest mortality of A. craccivora was recorded 49.31% at (9.24±0.703 ºC) and 17.54% at (19.96±0.13 ºC) on V. mungo respectively. The significant variation was recorded when reared on different food plants in different months (F1=24.15, F2=29.72; P< 0.05). Nitrogen Indices, Nodulation and Yield of Mung Bean (Vigna radiate L.) as Influenced by Integrated Nutrient Supply

The present study was conducted to find out the impact of inorganic nutrients (Nitrogen @ 20 kgha-1 and Phosphorus 40 kgha-1) blended with and without biofertilizers (Rhizobium and PSB) on growth and yield of mung bean. Significant increments in seed yield of 31.07% followed by 23.34% were recorded from the plots exposed to 20 kgN/ha + 40 kgP2O5/ha along with dual inoculation by Rizobium and PSB (T9) and 20 kgN/ha + 40 kgP2O5/ha + Rizobium (T7). Highest seed yield (13.23 q/ha) realized under T9 supported by increased final aboveground dry matter (29.33% & 26.21%), pod percentage (26.33% & 17.45%) and test weight (17.50% & 11.13%) compared to chemical fertilizers (T4 & T5 respectively). Highest number of nodules (68.17) & nitrogen use efficiency (18.32 kg/kg) were recorded at flowering (50 DAS) stage of the crop under treatment-9. Functional relation between nodulation, NUE, AAR, pods plant-1 and yield were positive and linear (R2=0.987, 0.9987, 0.9501, 0.9115, respectively). To ascertain the higher productivity in mung bean it is recommended that the application of phosphorus @ 40 kgha-1 with starter dosage of N @ 20 kgha-1 along with dual inoculation by Rizobium and PSB should be applied for higher seed yield under temperate agro-ecological conditions.

PEMANFAATAN ABU SEKAM PADI DALAM INOVASI PEMUPUKAN KACANG HIJAU (Vigna radiate L) DI LAHAN GAMBUT

This study aimed to determine the effect of rice husk ash on yield and growth of peanut plants. This research has been carried out in the experimental garden of the Faculty of Agriculture of the Islamic University of Indragiri Tembilahan, Tembilahan Hulu District, Indragiri Hilir Regency. The time of the study began from April to July 2017. This research was a field trial using the Randomized Block Design (RBD) method which consisted of 6 levels of treatment, they are; without rice husk ash, 1 ton/ha of rice husk ash, 2 tons/ha of rice husk ash, 3 tons/ha of rice husk, 4 tons/ha ash rice husk ash, and 5 tons/ha of rice husk ash. Each treatment was repeated three times to obtain 18 trial plots in the field. Data of this study were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results showed that the administration of rice husk ash with various treatment doses, had a significant influence on the growth and yield of peanut plants. The treatment that has the best effect on the growth and yield of peanut plants has been found, which is an average of 3 tons/ha and 5 tons/ha.
