The problem of entrainment is central to circadian biology. In this regard, Drosophila has been an important model system. Owing to the simplicity of its nervous system and the availability of powerful genetic tools, the system has shed significant light on the molecular and neural underpinnings of entrainment. However, much remains to be learned regarding the molecular and physiological mechanisms underlying this important phenomenon. Under cyclic light/dark conditions, Drosophila melanogaster displays crepuscular patterns of locomotor activity with one peak anticipating dawn and the other anticipating dusk. These peaks are characterized through an estimation of their phase relative to the environmental light cycle and the extent of their anticipation of light transitions. In Drosophila chronobiology, estimations of phases are often subjective, and anticipation indices vary significantly between studies. Though there is increasing interest in building flexible analysis software tools in the field, none incorporates objective measures of Drosophila activity peaks in combination with the analysis of fly activity/sleep in the same program. To this end, we have developed PHASE, a MATLAB-based program that is simple and easy to use and (i) supports the visualization and analysis of activity and sleep under entrainment, (ii) allows analysis of both activity and sleep parameters within user-defined windows within a diurnal cycle, (iii) uses a smoothing filter for the objective identification of peaks of activity (and therefore can be used to quantitatively characterize them), and (iv) offers a series of analyses for the assessment of behavioral anticipation of environmental transitions.

The paper proposes a histogram estimate of the probability density based on fuzzy data belonging to a grouping interval. A methodology for constructing a histogram estimate using a histogram smoothing filter is presented. The technique of constructing such a filter is described. The main filter parameter is established – the coefficient of the statistical relationship between the amount of data falling into the grouping interval for a single inclusion function and when approaching to use the membership function. The use of an iterative procedure for a histogram filter allows for a greater “smoothness” of the histogram. The simulation results show the effectiveness of using a histogram filter for different data volumes. At the same time, the choice of the number of grouping intervals for the “correct” recognition of probability density becomes not critical. The histogram filter is a simple tool that can easily be built into any algorithm for constructing histogram estimates.

Abstract In the field of open-pit geological risk management, landslide failure time prediction is one of the important topics. Based on the analysis of displacement monitoring data, the inverse velocity method (IVM) has become an effective method to solve this issue. In order to improve the reliability of landslide prediction, four filters were used to test the velocity time series, and the effect of landslide failure time prediction was compared and analyzed. The IVM is used to predict the failure time of open-pit coal mine landslide. The results show that the sliding process of landslide can be divided into three stages based on the IVM: the initial attenuation stage (regressive stage), the second attenuation stage (progressive stage), the linear reduction stage (autoregressive stage). The accuracy of the IVM is closely related to the measured noise of the monitoring equipment and the natural noise of the environment, which will affect the identification of different deformation stages. Compared with the raw data and the exponential smoothing filter (ESF) models, the fitting effect of short-term smoothing filter (SSF) and long-term smoothing filter (LSF) in the linear autoregressive stage is better. A slope displacement pixel difference method based on fitting accuracy and field monitoring signals is proposed to determine the point onset-of-acceleration (OOA) that is very important role for landslide prediction. A stratified prediction method combining SSF and LSF is proposed. The prediction method is divided into two levels, and the application of this method is given.

Abstract Based on the pulse-shaping unit in the front end of high-power laser facilities, we propose a new hybrid scheme in a closed-loop control system including wavelet threshold denoising for pretreatment and a first derivative adaptive smoothing filter for smooth pulse recovery, so as to effectively restrain the influence of electrical noise and FM-to-AM modulation in the time–power curve, and enhance the calibration accuracy of the pulse shape in the feedback control system. The related simulation and experiment results show that the proposed scheme can obtain a better shaping effect on the high-contrast temporal shape in comparison with the cumulative average algorithm and orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm combined with a traditional smoothing filter. The implementation of the hybrid scheme mechanism increased the signal-to-noise ratio of the laser pulse from about 11 dB to 30 dB, and the filtered pulse is smooth without modulation, with smoothness of about 98.8%.

The article presents elaborated technical suggestions for increasing reliability of electrical equipment of agro-industrial complexes. The analysis of the already known ways of measuring electric capacitance is carried out and it demonstrates the necessity of withdrawing a capacitor from a working circuit for sufficient accuracy of determining electric capacitance. The urgency of developing a method for measuring electric capacitance without removing the capacitor from а working circuit to reduce the average recovery time is shown. Theoretical foundation of the possibility to measure electric capacitance without a capacitor being withdrawn from a working circuit in smoothing filter mode is worked out; a structural electric circuit of an electric capacitance measuring device is elaborated and the principle of its operation is described; methods of measurement by means of the given device are elaborated; conditions for creating and maintaining the measurement mode of the device are substantiated. The validity of the received results is checked with the help of the programmed package Mathcad, as well as on electric models of the main blocks of the device. The obtained results can be used to measure electric capacitance of electrolytic capacitors during maintenance and electrical equipment renovation and also can promote its reliability.
