Efficient Crude Oil Pricing Using a Machine Learning Approach

Crude oil, a base for more than 6000 products that we use on a daily basis, accounts for 33% of global energy consumption. However, the outbreak and transmission of COVID-19 had significant implications for the entire value chain in the oil industry. The price crash and the fluctuations in price is known to have far reaching effect on global economies, with Nigeria hard. It has therefore become imperative to develop a tool for forecasting the price of crude oil in order to minimise the risks associated with volatility in oil prices and also be able to do proper planning. Hence, this article proposed a hybrid forecasting model involving a classical and machine learning techniques – autoregressive neural network, in determining the prices of crude oil. The monthly data used were obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria website, spanning January 2006 to October 2020. Statistical efficiency was computed for the hybrid, and the models from which the proposed hybrid was built, using the percent relative efficiency. Analyses showed that the efficiency of the hybrid model, at 20 and 100 hidden neurons, was higher than that of the individual models, the latter being the best performing. The study recommends urgent diversification of the economy in order not for the nation to be plunged into a seemingly unending recession.

Prospects for using data from pending orders for forecasting oil prices in Russia

Modern oil-pricing is more dependent on the stock market conditions than on the cost price or demand and supply laws. The price is infl uenced by a great number of objective and subjective factors. The ability to analyze these factors is the basis of the modern stock market trade. Thus, stock quotes are the key to analyzing oil market in the short-term perspective. The authors study current trends informing pricing factors of the oil market and their influence. They point out the peculiarities of using orders as pricing tools, adduce Russian experience on pending orders at the oil market, analyze the specificity and prospects of using pending orders for analyzing oil market. So, changes of the conditions can be predicted much faster than by using traditional statistic methods of analyzing transactions. The authors conclude that using such a tool as a pending order will lead to better understanding of the market conditions for the main Russian oil brand (Urals). It will make the market more predictable and controllable by the government which will mitigate the consequences of drastic changes in oil prices and the changes of the cost of energy and fuel arising from that making the economy more resistant to crises. More accurate forecasts will increase the Russian traders’ income from the transactions. The authors use international researches devoted to stock market trade and data analysis, and information from software developers who design programs for analyzing stock market data.

Transformation of the global oil pricing structure in the conditions of increasing competition of leading players in the oil market

The article proposed by the authors examines the competition between the world's leading producer countries in the context of changing the structure of global oil pricing. The global benchmarks for WTI, Brent and Dubai are the price benchmarks for all oil producing countries in the world, and all changes related to quality, production volumes and supply geography cause structural and institutional changes in the oil market. Crude oil plays an important role in the global economy not only as a commodity, but also as a financial instrument for the redistribution of income between the world’s largest financial players.

An assessment of OPEC's strategy and market factors on crude oil pricing

Ο κύριος στόχος της διατριβής είναι να ερευνήσει τους παράγοντες που καθορίζουν τις τιμές του αργού πετρελαίου. Παρότι το πετρέλαιο θεωρείται εμπόρευμα, η δομή της αγοράς του είναι πολύ πιο σύνθετη. Δεν είναι ένα εμπόρευμα που μπορεί να παραχθεί σε αφθονία από κάθε χώρα, ακόμα και αν στην εποχή μας υπάρχουν πολλαπλές πηγές πέραν των συμβατικών. Σαν αποτέλεσμα, οι χώρες διαιρούνται σε παραγωγούς και καταναλωτές με πολλούς νέους παραγωγούς να διεκδικούν μερίδιο αγοράς. Πέραν των παραγόντων που καθορίζουν την τιμή του πετρελαίου, προσπαθούμε να περιγράψουμε τον ρόλο και την στρατηγική των σημαντικών παραγωγών όπως της Σαουδικής Αραβίας και της Ρωσικής Ομοσπονδίας και να επικεντρωθούμε στον OPEC.Το κύριο αποτέλεσμα μας είναι ότι η ζήτηση είναι ο καθοριστικός παράγοντας, κάτι το οποίο τονίζει και την έλλειψη υποκατάστασης. Παρόλο, που η αντισυμβατική παραγωγή και τα αποθέματα παίζουν ένα αποπληθωριστικό ρόλο σε ένα κατά πολύ μικρότερο βαθμό από τον γενικώς αντιλαμβανόμενο. Η χρηματιστηριακή κερδοσκοπία παίζει ρόλο στην διακύμανση των αγορών. Παρόλα αυτά οι τιμές καθορίζονται από την προσφορά και την ζήτηση. Σε αντίθεση, τα αρνητικά σοκ στην προσφορά δεν είναι πιθανά, καθώς γεγονότα όπως για παράδειγμα η εμφάνιση του Ισλαμικού Κράτους δεν προκάλεσαν αναστάτωση στην προσφορά. Επιπροσθέτως, η υπερπροσφορά μπορεί να κυριαρχήσει λόγω των αρνητικών σοκ στην ζήτηση που μπορούν να προκληθούν λόγω των υφέσεων και των πανδημιών όπως ο κορονοϊός. Επίσης, προτείνεται ότι οι παραγωγοί και οι καταναλωτές έχουν κοινά ενδιαφέροντα στο να κρατήσουν τις τιμές σε λογικά επίπεδα μέσω του διαλόγου που θα μπορούσε να επιτευχθεί. Όσο για την σχέση μεταξύ των αγορών του φυσικού αερίου και του πετρελαίου, βρίσκουμε ισχυρές αποδείξεις αποσύνδεσης. Στο Αμερικανικό Henry Hub, στο Βρετανικό (NBP) και στο ηπειρωτικό Ευρωπαϊκό TTF, οι αγορές του φυσικού αερίου είναι ολοκληρωτικά ανεξάρτητες από αυτή του πετρελαίου. Ακόμα και όταν υπάρχει σύνδεση μεταξύ των αγορών, αυτή είναι μόνο παρωδική. Σε αντίθεση, στην αγορά τις Ιαπωνίας-Κορέας (JKM) οι τιμές του πετρελαίου καθόρισαν αυτές του υγροποιημένου φυσικού αερίου (LNG) όταν τα πυρηνικά εργοστάσια έπαυσαν να λειτουργούν λόγω του ατυχήματος της Fukushima.Θεωρούμε την Σαουδική Αραβία ως swing producer που καλύπτει το μεγαλύτερο μέρος των αυξήσεων της ζήτησης αλλά αφήνει και μερίδιο για τους άλλους. Η Σαουδική Αραβία δεν θέλει να αυξηθούν οι τιμές σε πολύ υψηλά επίπεδα αφού αυτό θα μείωνε την μελλοντική ζήτηση. Επιπροσθέτως η Σαουδική Αραβία διατηρεί την ίδια στρατηγική στην παραγωγή ανεξάρτητα του χρονικού ορίζοντα (μακροπρόθεσμα και βραχυπρόθεσμα), των τιμών, και των αποθεμάτων. Ειδικά βραχυπρόθεσμα, η Σαουδική Αραβία προσπαθεί να καταστήσει τα αποθέματα λιγότερο αποτελεσματικά ως προς το κόστος.Πρόσθετα, η Ρωσική Ομοσπονδία δεν εξαρτάται αποκλειστικά από τις τιμές πετρελαίου. Το ρωσικό ΑΕΠ εξαρτάται περισσότερο από την κρατική δαπάνη. Παρόλα αυτά η εξάρτηση από τα έσοδα από το πετρέλαιο μπορεί να προέρχεται από την σχέση μεταξύ της κρατικής δαπάνης και του ΑΕΠ. Καταλήγουμε ότι υπάρχει ένα επίπεδο εξάρτησης αλλά όχι η Ολλανδική ασθένεια.Επίσης βρίσκουμε ότι η παραγωγή του OPEC μπορεί να μειώσει τις τιμές, παρόλο, που η παραγωγή του ΟΟΣΑ είναι πιο σημαντική μακροπρόθεσμα. Αντίθετα, η παραγωγή του OPEC έχει την ίδια επίδραση βραχυπρόθεσμα ενώ αυτή του ΟΟΣΑ είναι στατιστικά ασήμαντη. Το τελευταίο δείχνει τους περιορισμούς στην παραγωγή και εξαγωγή που αντιμετωπίζουν οι χώρες του ΟΟΣΑ. Τελικά ο OPEC συνεχίζει να είναι ικανός να στέλνει δυνατά σήματα στην αγορά. Η παραγωγική δυναμικότητα του μπορεί να εμποδίσει της αποτυχίες στην αγορά. Επιπλέον μπορεί να λειτουργήσει σαν ένα φόρουμ μεταξύ παραγωγών και καταναλωτών. Πολλές χώρες μέλη του OPEC θα μπορούσαν να βοηθήσουν στην ολοκλήρωση ενός εγχειριδίου καλών πρακτικών καθώς βρίσκονται στην προσπάθεια διαφοροποίησης των οικονομιών τους. Τελικά, η διακύμανση στις τιμές θεωρείται σαν η κύρια απειλή τόσο για τους καταναλωτές όσο και για τους παραγωγούς.

Summarized Indonesian airline executive views on the reason for the cost problem in mayor airline and on the potential areas and measures of cost reduction in airline operation. Present an introduction survey where 3 executives from 3 Indonesian airlines were respondent. In the executive opinion the cost problem in mayor Indonesian airline is primarily due to fuel and oil pricing and money currency. Of the various function in airline maintenance was seen as least cost efficiency, whereas flight operation was seen as an area with most potential for cost reduction. Indonesian airline had made route and fleet changes after the beginning of 2011 to reduce cost, concludes from the analisys result having privatization would be an important step towards more efficient airline operation. Flexibility from Indonesian airline regulatory would be very much welcome and the value chain concept to improve Indonesian airline having competitive adventage and cost leadership differentiation

Oil market financialisation and Russian Government budget hedging

Market financialisation radically changes the process of oil pricing and results in increase of price volatility. Normal contango situation in financial markets is favorable for government risk hedging. Optimal hedging strategy depends on derivatives’ market conditions, but the recommended contract is put/spread option. Budget hedging may be beneficial for Government as it permits to include oil price in the process of budget planning more accurately.

Refined oil prices with family cars

Nowadays, more and more cars have begun to enter into innumerable families; the family car has become a necessity for Chinese households who have certain purchasing power. However, the ups and downs of oil prices have brought some impact on people's automobile consumption activities. Therefore, after collecting the information of the oil price and family car consumer, carried on through in-depth analysis of the relevant data with reasonable relationship, and then developed a suitable for China's national conditions and finished oil pricing model, thereby the National Development and Reform Commission have proposed the suggestion for China's refined oil pricing mechanisms and promoting the healthy development of new energy vehicles with specific measures. For question 1, through the problem analysis and information access, combined with the past and current situation of the domestic refined oil prices, we analyze the following seven factors: international crude oil prices, China's annual crude oil imports, China's annual crude oil exports, crude oil output in China, China's annual GDP per capita, China's annual consumption of crude oil, the total annual energy consumption in China, all have influence on China's refined oil prices. By monadic linear regression analysis, annual average prices of domestic refined oil products have a certain correlation with the various influencing factors, and then by multiple linear regression way eventually concluded the final relationship between oil prices and the influence factors, which compared with the current price, and make reasonable evaluation model. Through the establishment of various influencing factors and function of time, and using the evaluation model for refined oil product price to make reasonable forecast. According to this model, in order to predict refined oil product price as $122.15 per barrel in 2016. For question two, we basically sums up three key factor which influence the quantity of family vehicle: China's oil product prices, the annual GDP per capita, total road mileage. Through Excel to make the relationship curves of different quantity of family cars against influencing factors, and use Grey Forecasting method to forecast the quantity of family cars. And carries on the residual error test, it is used to conclude that the rationality of the model is highly. The number of private cars of the city of xi 'an is predicts that to 8.302 million vehicles by 2020. For question three, we discussed the relationship between international crude oil prices and domestic exports of crude oil export with domestic refined oil prices, through its multiple linear regressions to get the final pricing model. For question four, according to three previous established models, we proposed China's refined oil pricing mechanism proposal to the national development and Reform Commission: perfect price controls, deeper product market, and integration of resources consideration and environmental protection class tax types, adjust the consumption tax collection and Administration links, and improve the production cost accounting.
