Yukawa textures from singular spectral data

The Yukawa textures of effective heterotic models are studied by using singular spectral data. One advantage of this approach is that it is possible to dissect the cohomologies of the bundles into smaller parts and identify the pieces that contain the zero modes, which can potentially have non-zero Yukawa couplings. Another advantage is the manifest relationship between the Yukawa textures in heterotic models and local F-theory models in terms of fields living in bulk or localized inside the 7-branes. We only work with Weierstrass elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau manifolds here. The idea for generalizing this approach to every elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau with rational sections is given at the end of this paper.

Attractors with large complex structure for one-parameter families of Calabi-Yau manifolds

The attractor equations for an arbitrary one-parameter family of Calabi-Yau manifolds are studied in the large complex structure region. These equations are solved iteratively, generating what we term an N-expansion, which is a power series in the Gromov-Witten invariants of the manifold. The coefficients of this series are associated with integer partitions. In important cases we are able to find closed-form expressions for the general term of this expansion. To our knowledge, these are the first generic solutions to attractor equations that incorporate instanton contributions. In particular, we find a simple closed-form formula for the entropy associated to rank two attractor points, including those recently discovered. The applications of our solutions are briefly discussed. Most importantly, we are able to give an expression for the Wald entropy of black holes that includes all genus 0 instanton corrections.

Birational boundedness of low-dimensional elliptic Calabi–Yau varieties with a section

We prove that there are finitely many families, up to isomorphism in codimension one, of elliptic Calabi–Yau manifolds $Y\rightarrow X$ with a rational section, provided that $\dim (Y)\leq 5$ and $Y$ is not of product type. As a consequence, we obtain that there are finitely many possibilities for the Hodge diamond of such manifolds. The result follows from log birational boundedness of Kawamata log terminal pairs $(X, \Delta )$ with $K_X+\Delta$ numerically trivial and not of product type, in dimension at most four.

Heterotic line bundle models on generalized complete intersection Calabi Yau manifolds

The systematic program of heterotic line bundle model building has resulted in a wealth of standard-like models (SLM) for particle physics. In this paper, we continue this work in the setting of generalised Complete Intersection Calabi Yau (gCICY) manifolds. Using the gCICYs constructed in ref. [1], we identify two geometries that, when combined with line bundle sums, are directly suitable for heterotic GUT models. We then show that these gCICYs admit freely acting ℤ2 symmetry groups, and are thus amenable to Wilson line breaking of the GUT gauge group to that of the standard model. We proceed to a systematic scan over line bundle sums over these geometries, that result in 99 and 33 SLMs, respectively. For the first class of models, our results may be compared to line bundle models on homotopically equivalent Complete Intersection Calabi Yau manifolds. This shows that the number of realistic configurations is of the same order of magnitude.

Heterotic complex structure moduli stabilization for elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau manifolds

Holomorphicity of vector bundles can stabilize complex structure moduli of a Calabi-Yau threefold in N = 1 supersymmetric heterotic compactifications. In principle, the Atiyah class determines the stabilized moduli. In this paper, we study how this mechanism works in the context of elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau manifolds where the complex structure moduli space contains two kinds of moduli, those from the base and those from the fibration. Defining the bundle with spectral data, we find three types of situations when bundles’ holomorphicity depends on algebraic cycles exist only for special loci in the complex structure moduli, which allows us to stabilize both of these two moduli. We present concrete examples for each type and develop practical tools to analyze the stabilized moduli. Finally, by checking the holomorphicity of the four-flux and/or local Higgs bundle data in F-theory, we briefly study the dual complex structure moduli stabilization scenarios.
