In this paper the author analyzes the phenomenon of prototype worlds – synthetic environments of simulators, video games and other types of software – used to conduct experiments at the level of user sensorium, environmental physics and social design. The author presents the evolution of the concept, beginning with Buckminister Fuller’s World Game project, moving through media experiments in the field of game design, and finally presenting contemporary applications (such as a drone pilot training project for the U.S. Air Force) and their implications.

ABSTRACT To achieve high-precision and reproducible results from radiocarbon (14C) dating of carbonate samples in paleoclimate research, a new CO2 extraction line was designed, constructed, and characterized at the Heidelberg Radiocarbon Lab of the Institute of Environmental Physics, Heidelberg. The setup includes a circular glass-tube design, which is operated at vacuum pressure levels of the order of 10–5 mbar. The efficiency of the extraction process was assessed, showing significantly favorable conditions for solid piece samples (99.58 ± 4.69)% over powdered samples (88.28 ± 10.03)%. Process blank values are below 0.2 pMC apparent 14C activity. Repeated measurements of IAEA C2 standards with an average value of (41.09 ± 0.23) pMC attest high accuracy and reproducibility of the instrument. Six consecutive samples of 6 to 12 mg carbonate mass can be processed in one run of roughly 2.5 hours. Thus, the new setup contributes to time-efficient and reproducible radiocarbon dating results for paleoclimate research at the Institute of Environmental Physics. In a first application, Dead Carbon Fraction (DCF) values of a Holocene alpine stalagmite from Schratten Cave are presented, revealing extraordinarily high offsets between atmospheric and stalagmite 14C with DCF values between (49.4 ± 0.4)% and (61.6 ± 0.4)%.

Physics is essential for understanding natural phenomena. It provides a basis for understanding the impact of humans on the environment. This understanding is essential for environmental stewardship. Environmental physics is essentially the applications of the principles of physics to environmental processes and problems. Environmental physicists use the principles and techniques of physics to study the earth’s environment. They have made significant contributions to understanding global climate change and other environmental issues. This paper provides an introduction to environmental physics.

Higher education faces major challenges in the interruption era. Universities in the Indonesian Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education are encouraged to revive the curriculum in accordance with the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (INQF). However, this is considered to be lacking. Every argument that comes from recovery must be changed. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate and reconstruct the course. Reconstruction is an improvement on a course based on the need to review its relevance to everyday needs. The purpose of this study is to evaluate and reconstruct the themes of environmental physics. Based on the assessment of PGRI Semarang University Physics Environmental Physics courses, it is concluded that learning and learning methods need to be modified by adapting requirements. The result of the reconstruction of environmental physics is the integration of ethane technology into teaching materials and methods. This integration will help students better understand the physical concepts of companies and their impact on the environment
