An emerging body of participatory media work aims to access children’s subjective experiences. One such medium, children’s radio, has increasingly become a significant means of motivating and mobilising vulnerable children in many environments, including hospitals, by creating a space in which they can express their lived experiences. The present study describes stakeholders’ perceptions and experiences of a children’s hospital-based radio, drawing on interviews with child patients, family members, health providers, and hospital administrators. Seven healthcare workers or hospital administrators, 10 parents or guardians, 10 child presenters, and 12 child listeners were interviewed, and their interviews analysed using thematic analysis. The children’s caregivers and healthcare professionals felt that the children’s involvement in the radio resulted in significant intrapersonal development. Some benefits of their involvement were pride and increases in confidence. A particularly valuable finding in the present work pertains to the questions of “speaking back” and “voicing”: the radio platform allowed children to voice their feelings and opinions in settings in which they are disadvantaged in terms of the power differential between healthcare providers and those who receive medical care. The children found value in the usual power differentials characterising hospitals, being reversed, as ownership of the radio platform inverted their position as the passive recipients of medical questions and treatment and allowed them the power to voice their questions and concerns.

The article is devoted to the history of children’s radio programmes on «Radio Chuvashia» (STRBC «Chuvashia»), their current state, analysis of their genre and thematic specifics. The paper focuses on the role of children’s radio programmes in education and upbringing of the rising generation. The analysis is based on the methods of empirical research. The paper also employs the method of literary analysis (the analysis of content and structure) of works regarding the specifics of the sound material. The authors analyzed the archival records of children’s radio programmess, studied the personal archives of radio journalists V. Elbie, V. Mineeva, G. Vastryukova. The authors conclude that children’s broadcasting time has reduced from 70 minutes (the Soviet period) to 20-25 minutes a week (the present time); stress that radio magazines and radio newspapers for children have disappeared at all; point out the necessity to look for the new topics and forms of presentation of material; intend that the current research paper is to fill the gap in the study of children’s radio journalism in Chuvashia.

This article sets out to systemize and modernize the study of theoretical knowledge in regards to the analysis of Russian literary and drama shows. The author is examining the conceptual basis picked out of a segment of broadcasting. The conceptual basis is formed from a number of proposed theories dating from the origin of radio broadcasting to contemporary time, while taking in consideration the reality of a modern media market. The foundation of the study is an analysis of 49 literary and drama cycles broadcasted on “Detskoe radio” (“Children’s radio”), as it relates to their genre orientation. This radio station is the only broadcaster in Russia that’s sole content is literary and drama shows. Despite the regularity of such shows not only on the air, but also on the Internet, questions regarding the genre stratification remain open. The author concludes that most prominent researches in the field only rarely touch on concepts that have become in wide use during the development of literary and drama broadcasting, such as “radio drama”. The author thus, sets out to show a more finite and explicit, genre system of literary theatrical shows, at least as it relates to previous attempts.
