Oposisi Biner dalam “Lettres de Mon Moulin” Karya Alphonse Daudet

Binary opposition is the most important aspect that can reveal how humans think, how humans produce meaning and understand reality (Culler, 1976). Therefore, the discovery of binary oppositions is useful in providing clues to the workings of human reason. In the context of narrative analysis, binary opposition can reveal how the logic behind a narrative is made. Based on this, this study highlights how the formation of binary opposition contained in the novel "Lettres de Mon Moulin" by Alphonse Daudet uses Lévi Strauss's theory of binary opposition (1955) and structural analysis using Freytag's plot theory (1863). The corpus of the research consists of six stories contained in the novel forming a binary opposition. After doing the analysis, it was found that a pair of words with binary opposition were included in the exclusive category and two pairs of words that were included in the non-exclusive binary opposition category. From these findings, it was found that the author of the novel, Daudet, gave directions on what was good and bad by giving a clear line of separation. This is in line with the context of making stories during the industrial revolution, which mapped the world into two things, namely traditional and modern life.

Traductions du conte « La Menteuse », d’Alphonse Daudet, dans la presse brésilienne (1874-1952)

Différemment d’autres œuvres écrites par Alphonse Daudet (1840-1897), le recueil de contes Les Femmes d’artistes (1874) n’a pas suscité l’intérêt de la critique lors de sa parution; jusqu’à présent il occupe une place secondaire dans les études menées dans le domaine universitaire. Dans une recherche effectuée dans le fonds de périodiques numérisés de la Bibliothèque nationale du Brésil, l’on a trouvé cependant sept des douze contes qui composent ce recueil, traduits en portugais. Parmi ceux-ci, celui qui attire le plus l’attention est “La Menteuse”, qui compte sept traductions différentes, reproduites dans des journaux et des revues brésiliens entre 1884 et 1952. Afin de récupérer cette partie qui compose la grande mosaïque de la réception de l’œuvre de Daudet au Brésil, cette étude de cas s’interroge sur les agents et les institutions responsables de la diffusion et de la réception du conte “La Menteuse” en France et au Brésil tout comme sur les supports de publication de celui-ci.

Canonical literary and cultural figures such as Balzac – the supreme chronicler of nineteenth-century Paris – Victor Hugo and the film-maker Marcel Carné, whose Les Enfants du paradis is set at the limit of the area, are discussed side by side with less prominent but nonetheless important names such as the influential Romantic Théophile Gautier, Alphonse Daudet and Eugène Sue whose Les Mystères de Paris is a much-undervalued precursor of Naturalism. This period saw the appearance of the first guide-books, references to the Marais in which are cited and analysed, and towards the end the arrival of increasing numbers of Jewish residents, whose presence then and thereafter has been a major factor in the quartier’s identity.

El cuento en la literatura edificante española del siglo XIX

Aunque la literatura recreativa y de ficción suscitó la desconfianza de la Iglesia y de determinados sectores del catolicismo, el auge de la prensa y la existencia de una sólida red de librerías y editoriales católicas favorecieron la producción y la difusión de una literatura edificante en la que coexistían distintos géneros como las leyendas, la novela corta, la novela y el cuento. Escritores católicos como Antonio de Trueba, María Pilar Sinués de Marco, Manuel Polo y Peyrolón, el Padre Coloma recogieron la tradición del cuento con las debidas reelaboraciones. La literatura edificante también supo aprovecharse de las traducciones y adaptaciones de la producción cuentística europea y autores como Louis Veuillot, Alphonse Daudet, Mathilde Bourdon y el canónigo Cristóbal Schmid se convirtieron en referencias ineludibles. En casi todos los casos, la preocupación por la ejemplaridad de las narraciones llevaron a estos autores a supeditar el argumento folklórico y la construcción literaria a la finalidad moral.
