The paper analyses the main methodological principles of the direction in studying the history of diplomacy – New diplomatic history. The precondition for the formation of this historiographical trend was the transition from a teleological and state-centered perception of history to actor-centrism (as applied to the history of diplomacy). The main stages of development of the New diplomatic history are revealed. The substantive aspects of criticism of the classical approach to the history of European diplomacy and the process of the emergence of a permanent embassies mission are considered. In general, modern scholars are inclined to the problematic nature of identifying precise criteria for the permanent nature of diplomatic representation in the Early Modern period.Examples of studies of various aspects of diplomatic history within the framework of the New diplomatic history are given. The socio-cultural aspects of the activities of a diplomat of the Modern period come to the fore in the research topics of representatives of this direction. In this regard, the attention of scientists is extended to such topics as the symbolic language of diplomacy, the role of art, everyday life in the work of a diplomat, informal channels of diplomacy, reflection of diplomats. The characteristics of new basic sources for the study of the history of diplomacy in the Modern period are given. Modern historians pay great attention to personalized groups of sources, such as personal correspondence and memoirs of diplomats.

This chapter juxtaposes three episodes in the history of early modern diplomacy: Sir Henry Wotton’s tenure as England’s ambassador to Venice; the English state’s efforts to extradite a group of Catholic exiles in connection to the Gunpowder Plot; and Sir Francis Drake’s alliance with the nation of Cimarrons in Panama. The discussion of Wotton focuses on the unique position of the embassy as a space of residence, domestic business, and social and pedagogical conduct. In contrast to Wotton’s more autonomous model of state service, the English response to the Gunpowder Plot reflects the elision of any legal or conceptual place for the exile, extraterritorial subject, or nonstate agent. The final section examines the modes of sociability and definitions of enmity applied to colonial and extra-European regions, looking at the lines of amity, the premise that extraterritorial violence “beyond the line” did not disrupt peaceful relations among European states.

The study of the history of diplomacy between the West and Islam is interesting to compare. Considering that the theory and science of relations between countries currently rely a lot on these two great civilizations; Islam and the West. Each influence each other and sometimes cannot be reconciled. The character of the West is more inclined to make diplomacy a tool to achieve the goals of the State by means of trickery and intrigue. So it seems very negative. Meanwhile, in the history of Islam as put by the Prophet Muhammad sallallhu 'alaihi wasallam, it is far from that bad stigma. Therefore, the conclusions of this paper are; Islam offers the power of diplomacy on the basis of equality between races, tribes and nations. Safeguard the lives, property and honor of diplomats. Keep safe between the strong and the weak. Keeping the diplomacy process away from fraud, trickery and violence.  All of this shows that the Islamic conception of relations between States, between power in one area and another, is running in a modern and civilized manner.

The political context of Greek philosophy and its political themes are the subject of numerous studies, but the relation between diplomacy and philosophy, to the best of my knowledge, has not yet been studied. In this article I examine two episodes of diplomatic missions that have left a clear mark on the history of philosophy and I try to show that the link between the history of diplomacy and the history of philosophy is neither accidental nor superficial.

Abstract Vladimir Mikhailovich Khvostov is one of the famous, thoroughly educated Russian historians. In his scientific heritage are widely represented lots of works on the history of diplomacy and international relations, on the study of major problems of General and national history. He himself defined that the most important secret of his life was his childhood and the inspiration for the poetry of the “Prophet”, the poem of Alexander Pushkin, the father of modern Russian literature. This poem was the most unusual incident in a highly Christian society two centuries ago, with its poet, the most unusual figure among the elite and the aristocracy. Poetry and poetry presented a transformative image of the Prophet that did not conform to the official description of the Gospel and the Torah, but rather resembled the Muslim definitions of their Prophet. The poem became the symbol of one of the greatest Russian intellectuals to rebel against the rule of the Church-Torah system in European societies, and as a result Pushkin was even excommunicated by the Council of Bishops of the Orthodox Church, but escaped the deadly tsarist reign of his youth.Among them are the doctoral dissertation “Foreign policy of the German Empire in the last years of the chancellorship of Bismarck”, articles on the history of international relations in the middle East in the late XIX century, the manuscript of the 2nd volume “History of diplomacy”, the introduction to the book “History of foreign policy of the USSR”, numerous articles and reports on various issues of foreign policy of the USSR and international relations.Article is devoted to the famous historian, scientist and public figure academician Vladimir Mikhaylovich Hvostov, describes his educational experience on the basis of archive documents. The research also covers Vladimir Mikhaylovich Hvostov’s early professional development. Further development of his life should be continued through detailed studying the personal fund of V.M. Hvostov which is located in Russian Academy of Science Archive.

Abstract The social history of diplomacy includes many elements, one of which is assemblage, or the material spaces of diplomatic activity and the various bodies they include. Another is the state effect – the documents and objects of diplomacy – as well as the state affect – the more intangible understandings and beliefs that condition diplomacy and lay well outside the state itself. Assemblage, effects, and affects, taken together, must form the basis of a deeper understanding of diplomatic relations and a new diplomatic history.
