Use of Picture Information Measure using Color Features for Image Retrieval in CBIR

Content-Based Image Retrieval systems backups the image retrieval process using the primary characteristics of image like colour, shape, texture and spatial locations clubbed with the semantic approaches for better efficiency and performance. Various information measures have been proposed in order to increase the level of Retrieval. A method of picture information measures based upon the concept of the minimum number of gray level changes to convert a picture into one with a desired histogram is presented. In search of finding a new perspective an integrated approach of Picture Information Measure (PIM) employed with the primitive visual feature color. The retrieval results obtained by applying color histogram (CH) on PIM (PIM of Red Green and Blue and there integrated variation) + Color Moment to a 1000 image database demonstrated significant improvement in retrieval effectively.

The Use of Thoracic Ultrasound to Predict Transudative and Exudative Pleural Effusion

Objectives: Pleural effusion is a common reason for hospital admission with thoracentesis often required to diagnose an underlying cause. This study aimed to determine if the imaging characteristics of TUS effectively differentiates between transudative and exudative pleural fluid. Methods: Patients undergoing TUS with pleural fluid analysis were retrospectively identified at a single center between July 2016 and March 2018. TUS images were interpreted and characterized by established criteria. We determined diagnostic performance characteristics of image criteria to distinguish transudative from exudative pleural effusions. Results: 166 patients underwent thoracentesis for fluid analysis of which 48% had a known malignancy. 74% of the pleural effusions were characterized as exudative by Light’s Criteria. TUS demonstrated anechoic effusions in 118 (71%) of samples. The presences of septations on TUS was highly specific in for exudative effusions (95.2%) with high positive predictive values (89.5%) and likelihood ratio (2.85). No TUS characteristics, even when adjusting for patient characteristics such as heart failure or malignancy, were sensitive for exudative effusions. Conclusions: Among our cohort, anechoic images did not allow reliable differentiation between transudative and exudative fluid. Presence of complex septated or complex homogenous appearance was high specific and predictive of exudative fluid.

Basis of Image Analysis for Evaluating Cell Biomaterial Interaction Using Brightfield Microscopy

Medical imaging is a growing field that has stemmed from the need to conduct noninvasive diagnosis, monitoring, and analysis of biological systems. With the developments and advances in the medical field and the new techniques that are used in the intervention of diseases, very soon the prevalence of implanted biomedical devices will be even more significant. The implanted materials in a biological system are used in diverse fields, which require lengthy evaluation and validation processes. However, currently the evaluation of the toxicity of biomaterials has not been fully automated yet. Moreover, image analysis is an integral part of biomaterial research, but it is not within the core capacities of a significant portion of biomaterial scientists, which results in the use of predominantly ready-made tools. The detailed image analysis can be conducted once all the relevant parameters including the inherent characteristics of image acquisition techniques are considered. Herein, we cover the currently used image analysis-based techniques for assessment of biomaterial/cell interaction with a specific focus on unstained brightfield microscopy acquired mostly in but not limited to microfluidic systems, which serve as multiparametric sensing platforms for noninvasive experimental measurements. We present the major imaging acquisition techniques that enable point-of-care testing when incorporated with microfluidic cells, discuss the constraints enforced by the geometry of the system and the material that is analyzed, and the challenges that rise in the image analysis when unstained cell imaging is employed. Emerging techniques such as utilization of machine learning and cell-specific pattern recognition algorithms and potential future directions are discussed. Automation and optimization of biomaterial assessment can facilitate the discovery of novel biomaterials together with making the validation of biomedical innovations cheaper and faster.

The impact of technology on external architectural appearance

Losing the ability to remember certain images of a specific building in the human’s mind is one of the problems these days, as this may make him feel the loss of its coordinates and lack of familiarity with his surroundings, and this happens when the architectural facades change and appear in more than one image. This paper focuses on new concepts of building façades, far from image constancy, which has been a great part of its conceptual structure. The study aims to discover the changes introduced by technology to the concepts of building façades, as it is important to deal with them in their new scope and adapt them to other parts of the components of the architectural forms of buildings. To achieve that, the study discusses the conceptual structures of building façades designed by new and old architecture pioneers. The paper is based on a comparative study to examine whether the facades of buildings for new architects have lost parts of their concepts and appear in a new and different way, compared to the basic components of the concept of architectural facades, depending on the characteristics of image constancy.

Image processing technology in American football teaching

Based on the development and advantages of digital image processing technology, this paper introduces its application in American football teaching. Aiming at the characteristics of image processing technology and practicality, the deep learning is introduced into the American football teaching process. Combining the characteristics of electronic information subject and years of teaching experience, the teaching mode and practice of American football are discussed. This lets students analyze and solve practical problems, promote students' deep understanding of knowledge, flexibly grasp the use of knowledge, and enhance their ability to innovate. The multi-processing technology of motion video image based on the analysis and evaluation of non-interference technology has been widely used and developed in the field of modern sports. It has an important help and support for improving the athletic ability of elite athletes. The practice has won the support and recognition of the majority of coaches and athletes.

The Ugandan hip-hop image: the uses of activism and excess in fragile sites

This article discusses the characteristics of image in Ugandan hip-hop with a particular focus on representations of activism and excess. Locating Uganda as a fragile site on the basis of widespread political, social and economic marginalisation, this examination considers members of Uganda's first generation of hip-hop artists, to argue that both activism and excess act in singular response to these circumstances. Finding articulation in strivings for economic freedom and social justice, the Ugandan hip-hop image reveals negotiations of histories of colonialism and of contemporary neoliberal capitalism: in doing so, it raises intersections of race and gender, informed by hip-hop's significance as a multi-billion-dollar global industry. This cross-disciplinary inquiry combines ethnomusicology with media, cultural and visual studies in dialogue with political economy.

The Difference in Impression between Genuine and Artificial Leather: Quantifying the Feeling of Authenticity

Products can be promoted by improving their value using shitsukan, that is, feelings or impressions of the perception of their material appearance. Particularly, products made of leather are generally attractive to consumers. Although the number of products made from artificial leather has been increasing in recent years, the impression of their appearance is different from that of products made of genuine leather. This study investigates the impression elicited by leather and proposes a model to assess people’s feeling of its authenticity. We developed a measurement system and conducted subjective evaluation experiments on two groups of participants divided according to whether they were familiar with leather. The proposed evaluation model is based on a visual perception mechanism. We first investigated the correlation between characteristics of image samples and impression factors estimated by using factor analysis. Then, we confirmed the correlation among the impression factors and values of the feeling of authenticity. The R-squared value between subjective values of the feeling of authenticity and our proposed assessment values was approximately 0.8.
