The article considers a biblical theology of leadership and examines empirical studies of leadership over the past 100 years. Both theological and scientific analyses frame the authors’ reflections on leadership in educational ministry over the past 40 years. Three inter-connected factors shape our understanding of leadership at any given time in history: the importance of a leader’s character; the competencies needed in a leadership role; and the context in which a leader serves.

The teachers of the Moscow Theological Academy, which is the successor to the Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy, continued to carry out zealous scientific-theological and spiritual-educational ministry. The biography of I. N. Korsunsky is a typical example of combining deep knowledge and genuine faith. Love for the Holy Scriptures and ancient languages allowed him to make the impossible possible - in a short period of life, interrupted in the prime of life due to illness, significantly enrich the Moscow Academy and academic science with scholarly works, books and, above all, by his own example of an hero of theological science. The article reveals the living image of I. N. Korsunsky on the basis of archival data. Many data about him are reported for the first time.
