Leiam, meninos! Uma análise das materialidades do livro e do conteúdo dos best-sellers para crianças e pré-adolescentes do sexo masculino, entre 8 e 12 anos

Este artigo investiga, a partir da materialidade e do conteúdo dos livros de um corpus composto por best-sellers infantojuvenis, quais são os elementos editoriais que potencialmente contribuem para o sucesso editorial de um livro para meninos na faixa etária entre 8 e 12 anos. A pretensão deste estudo é contribuir para uma compreensão maior das motivações dessas crianças e pré-adolescentes do sexo masculino para a leitura, no intuito de subsidiar a curadoria de títulos estrangeiros para publicação no mercado brasileiro e a produção de títulos nacionais para esse público.

The chapter shows how, throughout his publications, Franklin’s understanding and sympathy for aspects of Christianity became apparent. His interest in making a profit was part of his larger effort to improve the morals of fellow colonists. Franklin’s work in an industry that was crucial to the spread of Protestantism reveals another link between his life and the world that the Reformation made.

SHIRLEY JACKSON, KAZUO ISHIGURO E O PÚBLICO LEITOR GEEK: ASPECTOS CONDICIONANTES DE MARCAS DE ORALIDADE EM TRADUÇÕES DE FICÇÃO DE GÊNERO E DE FICÇÃO LITERÁRIA

RESUMO Este artigo apresenta uma pesquisa sobre marcas de oralidade em um romance de ficção de gênero, A assombração da casa da colina, de Shirley Jackson (traduzido por Débora Landsberg), e em um romance de ficção literária, Não me abandone jamais, de Kazuo Ishiguro (traduzido por Beth Vieira), ambos publicados pelo Grupo Editorial Companhia das Letras. Em consonância com Amorim (2018a, 2018b e 2021a), este trabalho pretendeu avaliar se obras traduzidas, associadas aos best-sellers, como as de ficção de gênero, seriam permeáveis às marcas de oralidade, comparativamente às obras de ficção literária. Realizaram-se um levantamento quantitativo e uma análise qualitativa das marcas de oralidade. Coletaram-se informações sobre a popularidade das obras e sobre o nível de ressonância de seus autores junto ao campo acadêmico. Como o livro de Jackson é publicado por um selo voltado ao público geek, recorremos às informações de uma pesquisa sociológica acerca de seu perfil no Brasil. Os resultados apontaram que: a) ambas as obras detêm um grau elevado de marcas de oralidade; e b) apesar das diferenças, os dois autores desfrutam de elevado capital simbólico, traduzido em prêmios literários e em recepção crítica junto ao campo acadêmico-universitário. As análises sugerem a existência de hierarquias governando os graus de consagração/reverberação acadêmica quanto à diferenciação de obras e autores, mesmo no subcampo da ficção de gênero, e que leitores com diferentes níveis de capital cultural/escolar poderiam, talvez, exercer alguma influência no modo como que tradutores/editores projetam a representação da variação linguística nas traduções a serem publicadas.

Analisis Visual Desain Cover Novel-novel Karya Boy Candra

Novel is a work of fiction that is printed like a book and has a cover. Novel cover is one element that can increase the purchasing power of its readers. Therefore, the cover of the novel is designed in an attractive manner, including the novels by Boy Candra which become the identity of the author and the novel is also one of the reasons why these novels become best sellers. Some elements that can compose a cover design are illustration, colour, and typography. The research objective to be achieved is to determine the visual design of the cover of Boy Candra's novels, which includes several elements, namely illustrations, colours, and typography. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method using observation and documentation as its data collection instruments. The result of analysis showed that the cover design of Boy Candra’s novel made use of achromatic colour that looks simple, elegant, mysterious, and dark. In addition, the writing design on the cover uses a consistent type of typography, for example on the nameplate/logo, synopsis, masthead, and also headlines that use script and cursive fonts. Cover novel merupakan salah satu elemen yang dapat meningkakan daya beli para pembacanya. Oleh karena itu, cover novel didesain secara menarik, termasuk novel-novel karya Boy Candra yang menjadi identitas pengarang dan novelnya pun menjadi salah satu alasan novel-novel tersebut menjadi best seller. Beberapa unsur yang dapat menyususn sebuah desain cover yaitu ilustrasi, warna,dan tipografi. Tujuan penelitian yang hendak dicapai oleh adalah untuk mengetahui desain visual cover novel-novel Boy Candra, yang meliputi beberapa hal yaitu ilustrasi, warna, dan tipografi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan instrument penelitian obseervasi dan dokumentasi. Dengan menggunakan metode dan instrumen penelitian tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa desain cover warna yang digunakan pada cover adalah warna akromatik, terlihat simple, elegan, misterius, sedih. Selain itu, desain tulisan pada cover menggunaan jenis tipografi yang konsisten pada cover novel karya Boy Candra, contohnya pada nameplate/logo, sinopsis, masthead, dan juga headline yang menggunakan font script and cursive. La « femme musulmane opprimée » : genèse d’un nouveau genre littéraire à succès (1988–2003)

Depuis la fin des années 1980, le genre littéraire de la « femme musulmane opprimée » connaît un succès phénoménal dans le monde occidental. L’objectif de cet article est de faire la sociologie de sa genèse à partir du cas français, qui est sûrement le pays qui publient le plus de livres de ce genre. Il s’agit ainsi d’analyser les conditions de production et de diffusion de ces livres, en laissant de côté leur contenu textuel et sa réception par les lectrices. Dans un premier temps, l’enjeu est d’inscrire ce nouveau genre littérature dans l’histoire du champ de l’édition française marqué par un phénomène de concentration médiatique, de financiarisation et de changement du métier d’éditeur. Le « témoignage » devient ainsi un genre littéraire particulièrement rentable, comme l’illustre le cas du club de lecture France Loisirs, véritable « machine » à best-sellers à destination d’un public essentiellement féminin. Dans un second temps, il s’agit d’étudier le contenu des catalogues de France Loisirs depuis 1976 en se focalisant sur le type de témoignages promus. Cette analyse révèle le passage, dans les années 1980, de la figure du « repenti communiste » à celle de la « repentie musulmane ». Dans un dernier temps, l’attention se porte sur Jamais sans ma fille de Betty Mahmoody, véritable modèle à suivre pour de nombreuses maisons d’édition françaises. Il se met alors en place un véritable système de découverte de nouvelles histoires de femmes musulmanes, de traduction/réécriture de la part de prête-plume (ghostwriters) expérimentés, et de campagne publicitaire massive dans la presse, la radio et la télévision, qui font de ce genre littéraire un produit de consommation. Ce genre littéraire est révélateur de l’imbrication de la logique de marché et du processus de racialisation des musulmans, débouchant sur la diffusion massive de representations islamophobes.

ONLINE TABLE RESERVATION WITH PRE-ORDERING

Online Table Reservation System is aweb-based solution for a Restaurant’s Pre-Ordering module; automation and digitalization of table reservation process along with pre-ordering of food and parking spot allocation. This system would allow restaurants to increase the scope of business and save a lot of time with table reservations as previous bookings are open. The system also makes it possible to quickly and easily control an online menu that customers can search and use with only a few clicks to place orders. Recommendations would be based on user activation and specifications. A new user would be recommended of the restaurants available best sellers while a regular would be recommended based on their previous food selections. Their starter and other food selections would also raise recommendations. The table will be reserved along with a parking space on the appropriate time-slot so that users do not face inconvenience. Using this system as a building block, we can develop a smartphone-compactable software application

Lexical Means of Verbalization of Uncertainty in the Arabic language on the example of Modern Best Sellers

The article studies the peculiarities of verbalizing the category of ambiguity on the material of English literary texts translated into Arabic. Seven texts of writers-postmodernist - J. Barnes, 1. McCarthy, I. McEwan, D. Lodge, D. Mitchell, were chosen to be analyzed. The subject of the category of ambiguity research is both logic and philosophical, and linguistic. Lexemes denoting ambiguity are described in terms of their belonging to semantic (thematic) fields, including their contrastive and stylistic properties. There are involved proper lexical units denoting ambiguity, and contextual, occasional means, while their dictionary definitions do not reveal the semes of ambiguity. The study deals with the role and functions of nominative units reflecting ambiguity and uncertainty of the world contemporary literary discourse through translation into Arabic. The methodology is based on the functional interaction of lexis and grammar as one of the systemic linguistics principles. The study conclusions proceed from the provision on the Arabic language to demonstrate the system of various lexical means to express the ambiguity category, and their determinant to be implied in paradigmatic relations of language system, and syntagmatic relations between textual semantic units which both explain grammar structure of language and the nature of semantic correlations in its lexical subsystem. The authors draw a conclusion that both English and Arabic languages possess universal extralinguistic meaning of nominative ambiguity, while the semantic field nucleus fulfils the crucial function to select and assort proper means and units to realize the ambiguity category in texts. Differentiation of ambiguity nominations according to their application is not homogeneous due to lexical nominations making up the main means to realize ambiguity principle as both semantic and grammatical category. In course of studying the topic issue it seems adequate to study the topic of ambiguity conceptualization in languages of different structure and arrange the means to verbalize the ambiguity concept using the method of systemic comparison.

LIVROS DE AUTO-AJUDA EM FINANÇAS PESSOAIS DE AUTORES BRASILEIROS E NORTE-AMERICANOS: ANÁLISE DE CONTEÚDO DOS BEST-SELLERS DA ÁREA (2010 – 2019)

O trabalho procurou comparar os livros mais vendidos de autores brasileiros e norte-americanos de autoajuda em finanças pessoais com intuito de identificar algum tipo de padrão nas respectivas literaturas e possíveis explicações para os fenômenos identificados, utilizando a técnica de Análise de Conteúdo de Bardin (1977). A codificação utilizada foi baseada na estrutura conceitual do Planejamento Financeiro Pessoal do Financial Planning Standards Board. O estudo tem suas hipóteses baseadas em dados oficiais de acesso ao mercado financeiro, na dificuldade financeira das populações e nos níveis de educação financeira. Os resultados rejeitaram parcialmente a hipótese, já que em ambas as literaturas o foco se deu em gestão de ativos e investimentos, porém a amplitude para a codificação planejamento financeiro nos autores brasileiros é significativamente menor que nos norte-americanos. Estes evidenciam o fato dos consumidores desse tipo de literatura ter interesse direto sobre os temas ligados a essa codificação e estão inseridos (ou pretendendo se inserir) no mercado de investimentos, buscando conhecimento específico. Além disso, mostra certo mimetismo por parte da literatura oriunda de autores brasileiros, que poderia entender o mercado norte-americano como um modelo (de sucesso) ou influência direta dos autores e livros deste país cuja literatura é mais antiga e robusta.
